That lone tear from Spirit shows that he's just as heartbroken as Eva and Don Wei are over what happened to Maya. He's probably the most damaged because not only was he unable to save her, he was believed to be the one responsible for her death and the cause of all the grief and emotional pain that has tormented her family ever since. Truly a tragedy that shouldn't have been, but unfortunately was. 😔
Right by spirit showing what really happened, he knew he could never be forgiven but at least he wanted Eva to hear the truth from his side, knowing he was sorry and just as heartbroken he could not save her.
I really love Spirit's character design (even tho it's wicked) and his theme cuz it sets the mood for the atmosphere so perfectly!!! Although I'm very sad how the episode ended, I misjudged him so very much!!! :'(
Andrés Pétur Axelsson same, at first i thought that he was a heartless SOB, but then when he showed her what really happened, i don't know why but i cried
It's actually really clever because we, as the viewers, only saw from her perspective until the end. So it's very logical for us to have thought that he's evil.
Holy smacks, I never EVER got to watch this episode as a kid as the show just disappeared in my life, even then, I've since had this huge obsession with fantasy aerial combat to this day because I grew up watching this show. Its been a decade since I've last seen or heard of this show, its only until after I am reminded of it that I decided to finish this episode by actively looking for it. This whole time, I've spent a majority of my life thinking Spirit was a villain, this episode is a complete culture shock to me that Spirit never actually hurt Molly's mom. Imagine having to wait more than a decade to finally see the conclusion of this story arc and I'm just like... man...
Spirit probably has as much PTSD about the incident as the Weis do. He was most likely humiliated by his home country, rotting in prison or something; probably only released to win the Great Race of Oban for the Phils.
Think it could've been because Jordan cost them a race before against aikka, so he didn't want to get mad at molly about costing them a race when he did before
Can we take a moment to appreciate Aikka here? Despite the fact he was still angry over the Earth Team's betrayal, he still came to Molly's defense when he thought Spirit was going to hurt her. Man, even though I respect official canons, and I don't mind JordanxMolly, I personally ship AikkaxMolly.
What a guy... Empathizing... Giving Molly some closure... Feeling guilty perhaps? All of that for someone we thought was going to be a major antagonist. This series is looking a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

Such a fascinating character. Can't even vocalize in any way and yet conveys so much merely by form and motion. A blank yet shocking expression that let's the mind wander as to his intent, a strange yet familiar design that strikes at the uncanny, an alternate form that speaks to a more primal part of the mind, and a story both engaging and heart wrenching. They nailed Spirit, easily one of the coolest characters ever.

Just great characters here. Spirit, on first glance is ominous, spooky, and makes ya wanna pee your pants, but kind in it's demeanor. From the gentle stroke of her head, to the single drop of tears, you can tell he holds great guilt for Eva's lost. The prince, despite from distrust of the Earth team, still caring for Molly.
