You can actually get deflections if you aim your shot at a player in front of the net. I might be the only person who has played this game at least once a month since it has been released (I have a backup game and 2 backup sticks for my old days but let's not confuse insanity with enthusiasm) and to be honest, the game is full of flaws : faceoffs in your zone after an icing or penalty call against the other team, almost 0% of faceoffs once in the playoffs, to a point where i deliberately give the puck away every time my team wins a faceoff during regular season (you know, just to be ready) and let's not forget the abusive amount of penalty shots given to the cpu in pee wee to pro mode. It still is the only game that gets me going like when I was watching hockey in my early 20's. You can also deke and put the goalie on his face while throwing the puck into the net.
