Outrageous. With all of the money Pitt has and they can't fix the furnace? It takes the news to get it done. Unbelievable. Yes, reimburse the students for what they went through.
Pitt could easily put these students up in hotel rooms for a few days, or longer... With the vast sums of money this university has at their disposal their accountants wouldn't even notice. Shameful and as per typical with them.
Although I think it’s outrageous that these students don’t have adequate heat and that the university gave young people space heaters as a solution!!! I realize 64 degrees is uncomfortable for most people, to the reporters I say shame on you for saying they didn’t have any heat. Several nights lately, Pittsburgh has had very low temperatures and the “feel like temperature” was in the negative numbers. I became immediately concerned for these young people with no heat to find out that they do have heat but not enough heat. My son attended this University and I would have provided my son a hotel room rather than have him experience this. Once my furnace completely broke and while I was waiting for the replacement furnace, we had to use space heaters and I have to say although my son was a responsible, good student, young people may not take all the precautions necessary to be safe using space heaters, even students who get wonderful grades.
