In 1964 I was age 2 and my Dad was flying a 1955 Cessna 180 flying into northern Alberta landing in forest clearing's to support road construction for seismic and oil and gas exploration, well one day he came back to our pasture with a 1957 Helio Courier ser. # 075 and a few years later bought ser. # 096. I loved those aircraft but many pilots were wrecking them frequently they required good skills to avoid bending em.
Agreed. This is a very purpose designed aircraft. The philosophy of use is evident, and the design choices are quite coherent. The retractable slats are not only responsible for its inability to stall, but also its relatively high top speed that is more comparable to the Cessna 180/185 than the Wilga, Storch, or Zenith. And it can fly slower than all those STOL planes while flying nearly as fast as a Skywagon which cannot fly even half as slow.
Thank you! What a brilliant piece of history and a wonderful gentleman to hear it from.
We need his kind again.
Thought I wanted a Murphy moose with turbo prop. Now i think this might be a better fit .
God bless you. I came across Helio Super Courier around 47 years ago when i was an young apprentice mechanic. A great aircraft.

I still remember unique Flight Control on Helio Super Courier 👌
Very interesting!
Is this guy serious? Asking why the Helio isn't as fast as a Cessna 210? 43:30
💕❤️💕
This is the way to design a decent STOL airplane. Not these endless variations of ridiculously overpriced Cub-clones.
