I recently realized why the field of view was adjustable in this game in the first place: sometimes getting a star turns it up a bit as part of the animation, such as at least one Wet-Dry World star.
The crack in time and space slowly opens everything crumbles polygon by polygon things slowly deform until only the corruptions are left. Mario struggles to get the stars to bring the world back... he fails and the corruptions take over..........
