I had the pleasure of meeting Cindy at a restaurant I was a hostess at in South Beach, 1995. She would frequent the place while filming a movie (name of it escapes me). She was sweet and very down to earth. She would call the restaurant herself- She would ask for me by name because i knew her favorite table and what to order for her. She even let me introduce one of my friends to her - he had a huge crush on her. We all talked about being from the Midwest. I met many famous people/celebrities back then, and she stands out for her humble nature 😊
First of all, as much as I like Prince, he had a reputation for "discing" women who turned him down. For me, Yasmeen Ghauri and Linda Evangelista were the most beautiful. I was told by a friend who modeled back in the 90s that Cindy Crawford got a lot of bookings because she was known as being the easiest to work with and had an excellent work ethic. She never allowed fame to get to her like some of the others, and for Photographers and Designers, work ethic goes a long way.
All those supermodels back then were beautiful. There would be scouts who just went from city to city looking for them in public. Now you have girls who look just like their homely millionaire father, get plastic surgery, and that's a supermodel. And no, her daughter does not look exactly like Cindy. The body yes, the face no. Her son is the beautiful one. He put a tattoo on his face though. That tells you something there about being beautiful. In his case, he doesn't like it.

Trivia: When Cindy Crawford was starting out in the modeling industry insiders used to refer to her as "Baby Gia" because she resembled Gia Carangi, the super model who had a spectacular rise to fame and a disastrous fall from grace.
Gia Carangi opened the door for all of these models and especially Cindy because she looked a lot like her. After the loss of Gia the modeling world was desperately looking for someone to take her role. Cindy was in the right place at the right time. The rest is history
100%! Cindy is gorgeous, maybe even more than Gia but Gia has magic that none of the 90s models had. The eye intensity, the uniqueness, and her versatility are close to none..
@@diva42meCindy had equal magic just differently. Their comparison is not so much a pure physical look. Both had incredible magnetism and had similarly physical brunette sultriness.
Cindy Crawford was one of the most alluringly beautiful models of her era without the controversy that afflicted some of her peers which subsequently held her in high regard as a supermodel.
… if you like men in drag that is because there’s nothing feminine about her, she definitely has more male features than female and in fact apart from the hair I can’t see any feminine features at all, her face is hard with a jaw that most men would be proud of, she has no hips which is the mark of a woman, there’s no softness to her at all, so that’s probably why she made a good model as she’s more like a coat hanger than a soft curvy woman and without the make up I think she would look more manly than womanly but the high cheek bones with no female cheeks seems to be a look these days so I can see why you think she’s attractive judging by the beauty standards that are promoted in the media, but personally I prefer a more female looking woman to the hard masculine look
@@autumn5852 With all due respect I find your comment utterly preposterous. I had to scroll down to see if we were referencing the same person or by some minute stretch of the imagination Hercules or Mr Universe. I use the word allure sparingly as it is a delightfully rare quality more to do with being, powerfully and mysteriously attractive or fascinating, seductive. Qualities not dictated by whether you wear a makeshift bin liner as a dress or exclusive expensive designer attire. A magical aura creating a magnetised interest of pleasing curiosity. To further the point the attributes you've highlighted I either wilfully missed or failed to acknowledge existing, either way I stand by every word I've written whilst respecting your right to an opinion.
@@originalGFLEX I agree, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and thank you because you’ve made me realise that not everybody has lived my life and therefore won’t see what I see. I have been around many transgendered people and when I look at this person I see many similarities to my trans friends and not to my natural born female friends, in fact, I don’t know any women who look like her. But maybe she was born a female and maybe the trans people I know based their looks on her and that’s why they look so similar 🤷🏻♀️ who knows, but you’re right, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and just because I see a man in drag when I look at her, it doesn’t mean everyone else will and in fact, many of my trans friends pass perfectly to many people as natural born females so I guess it’s just people like me who have been around them a lot who see the male traits of wide shoulders, no female hips etc, so maybe I’ve been around trans people for too long and now when I see traits that are generally attributed to males, such as large jaw and large facial features, big low down ears, wide shoulders, huge thick straight across collar bone, big trachea, huge feet, huge brow ridge, long arms etc etc, I automatically see them as male 😭 I maybe need to keep away from tranny’s for a while and not keep attributing these traits solely to men as I know we can all share traits and because she was a Tom boy when she was young, maybe she was just born with more testosterone than most women 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks 🙏🏽
@autumn5852 By your remarks you seem to have impossible standards for what a woman should be. I feel sorry for your "friends" you speak of! Cindy may well have broad, square shoulders, but she certainly has hips, and other very womanly qualities... Her back, her buttocks, and her legs are unmistakably all woman, and quite attractive might I add. By the bye, you come off a wee bit like one of those "transvestigators" !!! Ouch! Insane standards for what is to be considered feminine or masculine is a HUGE problem with culture presently. You simply contribute to that malaise here.
@@autumn5852You have no room to talk considering your face actually looks like a man and you’re a nobody. Billions of men & females will disagree with your shallow opinion on Cindy.
When I was ten I really loved Cindy Crawford. She was a beautiful brunette in a world of blonds. I have dark brown hair and can’t pull off blond due to having a really cool olive skin tone. It was nice to see a beautiful brunette represented
I’ve worked for talent management agencies and yes A lot of models, musicians and even actresses do moonlight as e$corts for the higher ups when not working. Numerous books have spoken about this. They do dip their toes in that lifestyle (and places like The Cannes film festival is one of their hunting grounds) so it wouldn’t surprise me & Even if she was. It doesn’t matter. Life isn’t always soo straightforward and straight laced. She still has done very well. It doesn’t take anything away from her for me.
I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but Cindy also had a successful make up book back in the 90's wich I fully credit for teaching me the basics about make up application. It was a very practical, down to earth guide. As always I enjoyed this video. Keep up the great work Karine.

I read an interview with her where she said she went to a makeup counter with a friend back in the 80s (maybe 90s?) and the woman at the counter said to Cindy who was wearing no makeup, "You could be pretty too if you work makeup!" (She was already a model)
@@lorrainefryer Nah. As an ex model (not a big time model), women can be really harsh in the beauty industry. Janice Dickenson was turned down for years because of her coloring. It's just the way people are. The friend Cindy was with was also a model. Gia was had dark coloring and hung out with Janice a lot and after Gia died of AIDS, Cindy was called the "new Gia" because there just weren't any brown eyed, brown haired girls with full lips back then. Christie Turlington broke through barriers too.
What's not to love about Cindy Crawford! She's not just a fashion model but a model citizen! Smart, beautiful, healthy lifestyle, kind and down to earth 👍
She and Yasmeen were the most beautiful ro me. They could pull of ANY look. Naomi will always be the queen but her difficult character makes it harder for me to love her as much
CAN YOU PLEASE do a video on Karen Mulder it wouldn't surprise me if you've already done your homework you know so much about the supermodel era and the exposure of elites , Karen's story is all of that wrapped in one and no one seems to be talking about it it's sad
I live in France and many years ago she tried to expose it all on a French talkshow which was never aired because it was controversal. She talked about being MK ultra, abused, etc.Years later the tv host said he regretted not letting it be broadcast because he had finally ended up believing her.
Yes, Karen Mulder was the most beautiful and most important of all! She was the first who exposed it all and paid a cruel price. I'm surprised karine hasn't done a long video on her yet.
After her modeling career, she spent time in France and had a short singing career there. You can find interviews she did with several French newspapers and magazines in which she talked about all of it. Unfortunately, a lot of people weren’t paying much attention back then.
There is actually a strong connection between celebrity status models and actresses being “hired” by tycoons and mercenaries. It’s sad, and we don’t want to believe Cindy has gone through that, but it is *possible* she was put in situations for money without knowing or consenting (mind control?). But also maybe consenting ….to continue enjoying celebrity status? It’s a dark industry.

🖤 Love her! My hair idol, loved her look. The late 80's early 90's fashion, the models, the mags, it was such a scene! I have one of her branded sofa sectionals even, lol!!
Cindy has my dream hair. When I was a young woman I thought I could create her voluminous hair look (like the Pepsi commercial) with a perm. What a disaster on my limp fine hair 😂Cindy is an absolutely gorgeous woman.
Cindy was my favorite among the 90's "supers." She rose to fame quickly because of her versatility and business acumen. Her management produced posters, calendars, fitness videos, makeup books, she hosted MTV's House of Style, posed for Playboy, and married Richard Gere. Cindy Crawford wasn't just a model, she was a brand. And was much more visible in the mainstream media than her contemporaries. I used to follow her career closely, I actually had the Elite Management book with all their tear sheets, including Anna Nicole Smith's. Believe me, there were never any rumors abour her being an escort. Also, Prince's lyrics about "paying the fee" was a nod to how expensive she and her cohorts were (Linda Evangelista said that "she didn't get out of bed for less than $10K a day,") and meant every word of it!
I used to watch Cindy Crawford host House of Style in MTV and VH1 back in the day. They used to have a program on Vh1 called Fashion Television that featured her walking the runway shows as well. I also loved her other hosting duties for MTV…
I've always adored her. She is a timeless beauty. Gosh she was beyond striking in her modeling days!! I wanted her hair. Yeah, now she gets work done, yet does not hide the fact (she couldn't), but she will always be beautiful. I love how she speaks so straight-laced yet she is totally human!! Funny, after she'd said she would not do Playboy; she did. I wonder if she would've supported Kaia in doing it if she wanted to; if it were still alive. Def. a fan of hers!!
She is one of my favorites 😊. It’s nice to see that the whole beauty without intelligence trope is going away. Also, would you do a video on Edie Sedgwick or any of the talent that worked in that era?
A model from one of my fav fashion documentaries “Catwalk” addressed the ‘models don’t have brains’ trope and she mentioned how ppl would be surprised since they have everyone that thinks for them (hairstyles, clothes, hotels to stay at etc) they have so much time on their hand(the models) to learn and invest in their interests. And I think of that every time I hear the misogynist tactics society use to belittle women and their passions.
Also, modeling is one of the few occupations dominated by women so I’m not surprised men hate on it. They make it so obvious when they are jealous of women and irritated by their lack of control where they are not the main character.
You summed it up perfectly! A few models I knew and know now, spend all their modelling money on college education. I’ve never met a “dumb” model. Their usually happy and smart. I see how men would hate that. At this point it is what it is. Anyone who doesn’t hate women wouldn’t just assume “all models are dumb.” It also shows you can never win as a woman through a male pov. You’re insanely beautiful you must be dumb but yet they tell women all that matters in life is how beautiful you are. As women we just need to do our own thing and not worry about what men think of us.😊
@@Sofianova17 Exactly! I have never met a dumb model, and they are mostly very socially aware women. Funding their college as you mentioned, participating in world topics, or even learning an instrument/ language. They use their time very wisely. When you stop living for the male gaze and decenter men, you realize there is truly more to life than the like of a man ( who is most likely very annoying) who will never and could never be a woman.
@@davinad2137Modelling is dominated by women in terms of labour but controlled by men in terms of management. I assure you, if it was ever the intention for men to be the main characters, they would be. There is no jealousy.
I didn’t have much of an opinion on Cindy Crawford. I knew she was well known, but that was about it. But now, she is DEFINITELY more then what society would deem a pretty face. She had the intelligence to back it up! And she seemed modest, and humbled. I’m sure models of today and during her prime, look up to her. True inspiration. She seems like a beautiful human being inside and out. ❤
I’m extremely disappointed in Mr. Prince behaviors towards some women…Sinead said a few things too. Sad…why Prince was like this? Great video Cindy is extremely attractive and sultry. Wow.
Met Cindy once at a Chicago gala…she was such a classy and kind woman. She gave off Queen vibes, far from how Prince painted her.🌸 I did her workout video daily in my HS years.😂 Met Cindy’s mom (she owned a boutique in my college town) and she was also sweet as pie. 🫶🏻
I don't think she gets enough credit for producing House of Style because that show was truly ground reading the first of it's kind that allowed a backstage look at what all girls wanted to see and know, I mean we were mesmerized and shook and loved her!
I saw an interview with a former booker decades ago who spoke about some of the abuse that goes on in the modeling business. She said there were some girls, like Crawford, who everyone knew not to touch because they were going to be big money makers.
The fashion industry is now saying the sample sizes are just too small and they can't have bigger models because it wouldn't fit them. Look at the "90 there is no way she fit into the current sample sizes for a runway. Models are getting breast reductions to work in the sizes. The designers did that.
@@anaxo1971 Yeah, we don't even know how beautiful current models would be if they didn't try to force very tall women to have below 90cm hips. It's unhealthy and doesn't serve anyone. It's because designers are not tailors and they don't know how to fit curves. They used to be able to make everything themselves and then they dressed curves.
@@IflieIt's not that they don't know how to fit curves, it's that small-busted rectangles with flat glutes are the easiest to dress and therefore take the least amount time to fit etc. The fashion industry is all about business and money, not clothes & creativity.
@@MD-722 Couture clothes can take weeks to make, fitting them for the actual models would take a fraction of that. They want to design for easy bodies because they don't have the skills, so they think it's too hard. They hire taylors to create their "vision" before even picking a model. But curves are what made '90's models look good to everyone. And they were already on a permanent diet.
@@IfliePoorer standards of training are definitely part of the reason as well. But again there is a driving factor behind that reason--cheap, quick, easy and overpriced is the name of the game these days and the rectangle is the most _universal_ shape to create things for.

Gia Carangi opened the door for all of these models and especially Cindy because she looked a lot like her. After the loss of Gia the modeling world was desperately looking for someone to take her role. Cindy was in the right place at the right time. The rest is history

Cindy molto più bella di Gia
But maybe she was born a female and maybe the trans people I know based their looks on her and that’s why they look so similar 🤷🏻♀️ who knows, but you’re right, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and just because I see a man in drag when I look at her, it doesn’t mean everyone else will and in fact, many of my trans friends pass perfectly to many people as natural born females so I guess it’s just people like me who have been around them a lot who see the male traits of wide shoulders, no female hips etc, so maybe I’ve been around trans people for too long and now when I see traits that are generally attributed to males, such as large jaw and large facial features, big low down ears, wide shoulders, huge thick straight across collar bone, big trachea, huge feet, huge brow ridge, long arms etc etc, I automatically see them as male 😭 I maybe need to keep away from tranny’s for a while and not keep attributing these traits solely to men as I know we can all share traits and because she was a Tom boy when she was young, maybe she was just born with more testosterone than most women 🤷🏻♀️
Thanks 🙏🏽
@autumn5852 By your remarks you seem to have impossible standards for what a woman should be. I feel sorry for your "friends" you speak of! Cindy may well have broad, square shoulders, but she certainly has hips, and other very womanly qualities... Her back, her buttocks, and her legs are unmistakably all woman, and quite attractive might I add. By the bye, you come off a wee bit like one of those "transvestigators" !!! Ouch! Short man syndrome. It's the anger of a rebuffed male that led to his lies.
I do not trust Anyone in the industry..
I read an interview with her where she said she went to a makeup counter with a friend back in the 80s (maybe 90s?) and the woman at the counter said to Cindy who was wearing no makeup, "You could be pretty too if you work makeup!" (She was already a model)

Yes Karen Mulder she was so beautiful
There is actually a strong connection between celebrity status models and actresses being “hired” by tycoons and mercenaries. It’s sad, and we don’t want to believe Cindy has gone through that, but it is *possible* she was put in situations for money without knowing or consenting (mind control?).
I did the Cindy Crawford workout video daily as a teen and it kept my body 🔥🔥🔥 maybe I can stream it! I had the VHS!!

Best hair I’ve ever seen
