People love to hate on creed but it’s definitely leagues ahead of what these other niche houses are putting out. Yes they don’t make bangers they have more of that Chanel esque thinking towards their fragrance and clientele. I do hope black rock or whoever now owned them doesn’t destroy the aesthetic of the brand by trying to keep up with houses like Initio or PDM. I feel they are also great houses but for different reasons.
I've recently dove into the fragrance world and I've definitely noticed the same thing. But imo (history stuff not withstanding) their portfolio and the clear natural lively quality way their scents come across is nothing short of amazing. In terms of what they put out, they have a certain quality over quantity thing that I really appreciate. If they lose that I think I may start hating them. Because it wouldn't be Creed then.
Mr. Smelly’s “Top 5 Gentlemenly - Classiest Scents of All Time” video, is an all time keeper, my favorite fragrance piece of any kind anywhere. Here too the he omits Vetiver Guerlain. The definitive Vetiver and the one , outside France, England? most know the brand for. Is Me Smelly Vetiver averse or just hates Guerlain’s. It’s like a Chanel list without no5!
Guerlain is owned by LVMH, who seem to be focused more on earning higher prices with high quality products versus watering the formulas down. Louis Vuitton, Guerlain, Dior, Givenchy, Loewe, Kenzo, Bvlgari, etc. -- even when I don't like the frags, I have to admit they are well crafted and high quality. I would have to go with the company that is legitimately 192 years old -- Guerlain. My five: 5. Guerlain Habit Rouge 4. Creed Royal Oud 3. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria, a new favorite of mine 2. Creed Himalaya 1. Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Extreme
Nailed that! As soon as GIT popped up. predicted BDP next to keep the tension going. But was always going to be Erolfa over Guerlain. I'd say you talk about it almost as much as Bois Du Portugal. 😀 I bought myself that last Xmas. Birthday is coming up and I'm going to go and try Erolfa. Quick shout to Habit Rouge tho. Prob my favourite fragrance and entirely your fault! 😁
Guerlain is my favorite fragrance house, but I have no issue with Creed pulling off the win. If I could afford to, I'd probably wear Creed all the time.
I'm all for Guerlain, but I don't have a long enough list from both houses to really call it in a "best of 5" way. Dan, have you tried anything from Castle Forbes? Scottish house, but my impression is that they're completely up your alley. Up your street. Whatever the saying is on your side of the pond!
A but unfair in that Creed is in a completely different price category, but despite that Guerlain really holds its own. Fun matchup regardless, it's nice to see Guerlain still getting some love, they're one of it not my favorite house(s). Great vid Mr. S., wish you'd do one of just the L'homme Ideal line/ its flankers.
Nice picks! For me when it comes to niche, 3 houses reign supreme: Amouage, Goutal and Diptyque. AdP and Penhaligon's would be honorable mentions tho. Cheers! P.S. Looking forward for N&W's coming to the EU in 2024!
Fun video Dan...looking forward to the next one! You actually got me into Bois du Portugal and now one of my favorites. Love Habit Rouge as well but in this competition going with Creed.
"Green Irish Tweed - not one of the most original choices". 😮 What does that even mean? Whats the criteria? Best? Greatest? Most "original"? And how do you define "original"?
Sorry if I was unclear. I just mean it’s not an uncommon or left field selection when talking about Creed’s best scents. Unoriginal thinking on my part to select one of their most obvious hits
Please, can we start putting this “Sinatra’s favorite cologne was Creed’s Portugal” to bed? It’s been out of control for years and just gets worse. Creeds release 1987. Frank’s death 1998. 82. By all accounts he started wearing as the 90s rolled around- his 70’s. Sinatra’s scent truth: he dressed clean, crisp. Took up to 10 showers a day. From authorized biographies. Throughout his life he gravitated almost exclusively to light clean laveder scents. He often wore the same scent Marilyn Monroe did. : Yardleyslavender, in the pre JFK Vegas rat pack years. He wore many lavender centric scents. Puig. He disliked (and Sinatra wasn’t big on disliking he hated things) loud or heavy scents on himself or others. Creed’s BOIS du Portugal - belonging to that light clean crisp era of scents known as late70’s/ 80’s powerhouses - is an ostentatious display if ever there was one. We think of Sinatra of being eager to impress because of his confidence. He was however a man of taste and nuance, modernism, especially sartorially even his interior choices. He hated loud vulgarity. He deplored the ostentatious. Even if he did love Creeds powerhouse it was with diminished scent ability a few years before he passed. If I’m 80 and start wearing Drakkar Noir and die at 85 DN was not my favorite cologne”. This denotes a kind of signature scent approach and love for the scent. Sinatra loved LAVENDER scents and his signature was a note not a brand . His favorite color was orange, even this he worked in a nuanced fashion into his wardrobe. Creed was NOT his favorite cologne. Brands love to align themselves with these fables and the public falls for it. As it gets repeated as nasuem.
Agree on EROLFA.

Life sometimes could stink but you can always smell good... I love it. Cheers from El Salvador.
Erolfa is wonderful stuff.

GIT is legendary.....Dan. have you tried any of the Ideal line, there's a couple of belters in there pal😊
Some great Creed's there, but for me Guerlain win 3-0 again.

Price wise, the lart and matiere collection could be matched up more equally to creed. That's a bloodbath for guerlain imo.

Absolutely love Erolfa! An Absolutely wonderful warm weather fragrance!

How bout put it back up against Guerlain, and pick some better fragrances? 🤷🏻♂️ Like Guerlain Vetiver, Hèritage, and L'Homme Ideal Extreme.

Creed is now under Kering.
Kering has revived and improved every company under their umbrella.
Fun video Dan...looking forward to the next one! You actually got me into Bois du Portugal and now one of my favorites. Love Habit Rouge as well but in this competition going with Creed.
Creed so strong 😉 nice video!!
Best niche house imo 💪
Gotta go with royal oud
1. Guerlain - Derby
2. Creed - Royal Oud
3. Guerlain - Heritage
4. Creed - Green Irish Tweed
5. Guerlain - Habit Rouge
6. Creed - Aventus
It has to be Creed vs Armani next just so you can troll us with 3x acqua di gio flankers
1. Creed Bois du Portugal
2. Guerlain Heritage
3. Guerlain Vetiver
4. Creed Royal Oud
5. Creed EROLFA
Great list!
I'd like to see Creed come out with a scent called: Green Irish Curse.
Olivier Creed is laughing from a tower in his chateau like Mr Burns in The Simpsons.
Olivier Creed probably wears Old Spice.
Vs Parfums de Marly
Nothing can beat Guerlain......end of discussion!!

Is that Frank Sinatra the WW2 dodger? It sounds like a frag for cowards and weasels ;-)
