The tender is a wee ripper! Not the cheapest no but one of the best I've seen in that size and I've seen a lot of tenders. I'm very happy to see things are finally going right for you with Boutari, I'm going thru a rough path (mostly of my own making with a bit of "help" from a difficult landlady at a farm I lease) and it really helps to see others who I care about having a win. It really helps. I'm saddened to hear about the passing of Rolf under what were (I assume by the wording), particularly tragic circumstances. Seeking help is so important before it gets to that point and men in particular are very hesitant to do so. You and Colin (Foxes Afloat) are a constant reminder that mental health is important and not something to hide away. Far too many men present a cheery outlook while slowly dying on the inside and that needs to be addressed.
30 knots what an achievement! Not much wake at higher speeds, some bouncing, trim tabs. Marvelous. The relief, the joy, unbridled even from Richard. Any data on fuel burn at varying speeds, rpm, distance, weight vs wind, tide, current with existing props? No one complained about the cold and early start.
What a great day. You two have tackled boat issues that many boat owners don't have the stomach for. You definitely attack problems. Damn, you cut the deck right away and renewed your fuel tanks. On that issue alone, most owners would have struggled with fuel problems for years and tried all sorts of other solutions. But you have rock solid fuel now, no worries there. And going after the entire drivetrain, props, struts, shafts, and the vibration damper, again many would have tried to get away with less but they'd never have the end result that you have. You get out of a boat what you put in. Next up, make sure you don't have any leaks whatsoever in your hydraulic steering system. On my Tiara Open, the helm unit leaked just a little bit and I ignored it. Big mistake--I lost steering entirely at the worst time, coming in a busy inlet. In the end, with some disassembly, a $2 o-ring solved the problem. It's been 10 years and no issues. You can do one better than me and I'm sure you will. Love your channel and wishing you the best.
The look on Simon’s face after the first sea trail was an absolute picture. So glad things went to plan after the previous disappointments. Good luck with the trip to Llandudno 👍
There is no better feeling than knowing your boat is running well and being on the water on a beautiful day. I’ve done a lot of winter boating. It can be beautiful. You are doing things the right way. Gaining experience and learning. You are on your way to being the experts for others to follow.
On the first sea trials I just kept looking at his face, and I was so happy to see smiles instead of the pained expression that he had on the first sea trial a few months back!
You both mentioned the acceleration several times - this leads me to agree on the prop pitch. Sacrifice acceleration for a greater speed at a lower engine rev. This would also deliver fuel savings.
Tip for you, to easier handling the boat. Put the gear and throttle in the same leaver! The leavers you have for the throttles, is already prepped for gearleaver to. So you'll elimiting handmovements to only using one hand for manouvering the engines, and one for the wheel.
I think that you might have a point about the props. Back in the 1980's we ran a 48ft GRP patrol boat, 7 tonnes dry, with 2 Detroit 8V 92 Ti diesels which made 31.6 kn over the measured mile, WOT 2100rpm. That was acceptance trials with 12 people onboard. With the regular crew (2) indicated speed was ~35kn.
Great work guys. If your getting 30 knots flat out with a clean hull and clean stern gear, the prop pitch is very close to perfect. With a dirty boat it’ll work out right. A boat that’s slightly under pitch when clean always works when it’s dirty. Where as an over pitch boat bogs the engines down and becomes slow and less efficient. Have a safe trip.
Gemma, the time-honored axiom about docking is this: Never go faster than the speed at which you're willing to hit something. (smile) LOVE the success and looks of just pride on your faces! CONGRATS!
I've had a few night runs across open water when someone's called out "Eyes out for Jerry, lads. I hear the Tirpitz is out!" and no one laughs because we're all looking for a battlecruiser lol. Then it sinks in that were; 80 years too late and in the South Pacific...... Gemma, I think you might want to hunt up some new gloves for the boat. The woolies are probably nice and warm, but the moment they get they're a liability and there's no second chances at sea. See if you can find something waterproof and comfortable, then see if they're also warm. For mooring, berthing or picking up lines a good rule is - Never approach anything faster than you're willing to hit it.
Superb video in every respect, narrative, editing, content and above all else compulsive viewing. The pair of you are naturals in front of the camera. I can’t congratulate you enough on quality of your journeys together, Thank you
The work you showed us in previous videos evidently paid off in a successful sea trial, great to watch! Having been on several sea trials myself I wonder if you compiled a plot of speed-power-rpm points? Could you show us the graph? Or maybe your sea trial wasn't long enough to record those points? I think 30 knots is great! If the pitch isn't quite perfect to "hit the corner" of rated RPM and rated power at the same time, I would be satisfied you're close enough if you can do 30 knots without exceeding the redline. Remember, as the hull and propellers foul during a typical season, power required at each speed will increase while RPM's will remain about the same. So, having a reserve of torque at the redline is what I like to see when fresh out of dock.
Nothing quite like that feeling when you put her up on the plane. Especially after a few hiccups. Don't do anything with prop sizes or pitch in a hurry, wait until she is fully loaded with all the stores, fuel, water and crew that you anticipate most of your cruising will be done at before fettling anything. Fair seas and following tides.
G'day Crew, Nice job ,sounds well balanced now. So there's just a little woodwork to do ,and we can hear the sound of those nice big engines working up on their sea trials. Enjoy the trip ,safe travels. Respect...!
I would trust your prop spec. With a diesel the fuel system is supply based not demand. So if you increase pitch it may drop the revs for a given speed, but might not be in a ‘sweet spot’, so the speed controller will overfuel trying to maintain the revs you’re asking for - even if those revs are lower. Yes more revs usually mean more fuel, and you might feel it can go faster, but the hull type, displacement, power & torque curves, target cruising speed will all have been in the calculation for your prop spec. to be efficient. Michigan have been spec’ing props for a long time so don’t beat yourself up that they are not as right as you think they might be - they are far from wrong. Getting the vibes out must be a massive relief 👍
If only it was a german boat it could be called , "schmidt happens"! I was very enthused by your genuine reactions. As much as I am singing for Sarinda I am also belting it out for Boutari.
Hi guys, congratulations she’s all fixed. See you on the smiles on your face after all the dramas you had good to see them all fixed up some small minor problems but that’s okay you’ll get through it. Keep up the good work love and appreciate you guys cliff from Logan City🧑🏾🦽 Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 🧑🏾🦽
Richard is the man of the sea - love his smile - when he speaks Simon and Gemma listen. So thankful your sea trials went well and so looking forward to your 80 mile trip.
Absolutely brilliant work. The high five says it all. That well deserved seal of approval from Richard. Cant wait for the next episode and hoping everything goes well on the voyage. It was interesting to see the map planning and to learn about how certain passages have to coincide with the height of the tides and other variables. There is something to be learned from all of videos - that's one thing that keeps me watching. Well done.
What an AWESOME boat!!! I am a sailor for the most part, so seeing the wake of a fast boat is always a bit of a trip!! So glad you got the vibrations all sorted.
You just got to remember one thing the V8 71/92 or the 8.2 l diesels you have in that boat are known for sucking up valves especially if that's the four valves per cylinder have fun
Don’t know if it has already been mentioned but it may be a good idea to put chaffing pads on the dingy or davits as you will get chaff bouncing over the water.
I’m so please for you both, I’ve been watching your channels from the start. You’re both so clever. Do deserve this success so much. Well done 👍 Andy Mc
Boutari is an absolute beauty! She sounds pretty amazing too, you must be made up 😁 well done to you both and all the people who helped you along the way. Can't wait for the first adventure 👍
I realize its a bit short legged, but that low end power to me would be more desirable in the ocean. The diesels only use fuel to the load, not the RPM, so your fuel impact will be minimal. And you may someday have to tow a 75 ft motor launch. I live near Michigan Wheel. They can fix your old props properly, and cup them for top speed. I know several people that have worked there. It is a great organization, and worthy of some promotion. If its running on plane below 2100 leaver be!! Also remember your boat is unladen while these tests are ongoing. 2-3 people and gear, i bet its propped perfect. Have you pulled the delivery valve from Sarindas injection pump yet?
Great Sea trial the Boat is now performing As it should Two very Happy faces plus Richards smile well done after all your setbacks it looks like you got your just rewards for all the work you have done. Well Done now for the big passage. Ed 40 S of Vegas

I love passage planning on paper charts, you get a real sense of achievement and understanding of navigating. Electronic nav aids are amazing but you don't get the same experience. You can also do it at home when planning the legs. Great to see and hear the boat pass its sea trials nicely.
Great progress and loving the content. I’m on the hard for preventative maintenance and missing my winter cruising so looking forward to living vicariously through your passage on the next video, hope it’s not long before it’s up 😁👍🏻

I told you,
you don't realize how special and high quality a boat you got there. You're going to be more than pleased with its performance.
It’s great to see you so happy after all the problems you’ve had with your boat 🛥️.
It was a big relief to have it fixed finally with no more big issues!
I find myself saying "Oh, cool!" out loud when I discover you've released a new video. My wife thinks I'm weird.
I don't think your weird! Xx
Nor do I,I said the same thing 😂
My wife doesn’t watch SH. She thinks it’s all techie and “boring”.. how wrong could she be?
@davidelliott5843 ask her to watch 1 video and let us know what she thinks of the video, I would be interested in her feedback x

Congratulations on getting rid of the BAD VIBES!!! Now you can enjoy the GOOD VIBES, so happy for you both.😊
Thank you!! 😊
Well done you two….enjoy
Those engines at 16' sound roasting! 🔥🔥
So pleased the boat is now in great shape. You all looked so happy .Excited for you tomorrow on your passage . Cant wait to see the next video.

If you get sea sickness the best thing to do is take over the steering of the boat believe me it works n it all goes away take care very happy for you both boat looks amazing n sounds great ❤😂
Amazing after all the hard and expensive work. I always crossed my fingers (outsch).
Congrats 👍 and the best of British for the passage ,look forward to it
You will experience harmonic vibrations at certain RPM's or when the engine RPM's are not synchronized.
Oh what a beautiful toy to play with sorting all the glitches out now only a couple left to sort and some extra fishing gear and away you go what a dream run you’ll have , well done from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Hope you see this, I would put something between the davit and dingy so the motion of it rubbing doesn't wear a hole in it.
1/3 out 1/3 back 1/3 reserve fuel --battery full power vhs--- ship to shore not a cell phone and a good torch light.

great work folks 😁and the look on Richards face says he a happy bunny.
Congratulations on getting your boat (one of them) working sweetly. As a former Brit, now living on the Southern Oregon coast, I too have had a few boats. Older boats make you you realize that boat stands for Bring Out Another Thousand. We now have a new purpose built tuna boat that only costs us the harbor mooring fees, regular services and fuel. Life is not so complicated anymore and boat ownership is now a pleasure as you will see for yourselves. Once again, enjoy your first long distance cruise, it becomes very addictive.
Nice one guy's. You may find once the boats loaded up with kit, fuel, water and snacks that she is not over revving. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
With fore and aft, starboard/port throttling you should be able to turn the boat 360* in her own length. Perfect manoeuvring!
And that exhaust sound😊. Launch torpedoes!
The Wynns had a tender that was air filled. They had to pad it wherever it touched the boat or the lifter or it would rub through.
All the best folks. Yes its cold , my daughter was out in her kayak on Tuesday . She lives on the Isle of Bute. She says it was amazing . There isn't bad weather , just wrong clothing . xx
That is a real offshore vessel. You can now go out for the big ones - blue fin tuna.
Safe Travels Take Care Great Job
FINALLY!!! The boat is a little belter!! I was wondering what sort of fuel consumption she gets? Pity boats don't have multi speed gearboxes like Motorbikes then you could lower your cruising revs easily!!! Once you are happy with your little toy it will be full steam ahead back on Sarinds with renewed vigour I bet????
Congratulations! The smiles tell the story! 🤠
Fuel anxious, and with todays prices and not getting paid to run the boat, you should be. Best to get a fuel monitor, set throttle to compromise between GPH(or LPH) and knots(klicks or miles).
Band rails similar to these would look good on Sarinda. Maybe add some gunwale toe boards but nothing more than 6” to 9” high. In my (no. boating expertise) opinion.
The smiles and High Fives, Say's it all, the sea trail appears to be all good news. It's been a bumpy road for you's in the beginning of the boat adventure but it sure is nice to see that things are becoming much smoother ride for you both, Happy for yahs. That was just great to see your fantastic boat's sea triales ! My dad's boat had two controls like yours re the gears and engine rev's! We used to do it with charts in our days and it was so lovely seeing you use them to do your route planing! We have been from St.Katharines Dock near Tower Bridge all the way around the southern coast and down to Penzance in Cornwall! I wish you a safe first trip and cannot wait to see the film of it! Happy Boating all 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
What a nice start to Christmas. A credit to you both persistence and hard work paid off. To all your family and friends Merry Christmas. Enjoy your cruise 🎉👌
If you rearrange the letters in "Boutari" you could end up with "Our Bait". Best wishes from Montana !
If you do not have them I would put rubbing strips between the Tender and the hoist
Great to see everything going ok we live on our boat love it from Ian and Trish from Kaos Hartlepool keen followers to both channels
i live in new zealand now but the scouse accent takes me home..great boat wd
Congratulations, fair winds and following seas!
Hi, well done to you both, you are now reaping the rewards of your hard labour.Roly🇬🇧.
You two are happiness creators. Thanks
My 15ft 40hp dayboat would hit 30 on a calm day. That felt proper fast. With it stripped out and just me.
Since you have the props you can get them pitched up
Love that you guys are doing everything you can to NEVER show up on 'Idiots in Boats' channel.
Congratulations with a well functioning boat! I hope your passage will be just as smooth. You have really deserved that after all your setbacks and expenses!
Aww, you'll make it just fine. There should be less traffic to deal with in the winter.
Well! That was exciting - great to see a plan that comes together!
I love passage planning on paper charts, you get a real sense of achievement and understanding of navigating. Electronic nav aids are amazing but you don't get the same experience. You can also do it at home when planning the legs. Great to see and hear the boat pass its sea trials nicely.
Just offering my congratulations, we're pulling for you young cruisers and be safe 🙏
Thanks 👍
a good thing about boats like yours is they float on damp grass so you can take it in very shallow water just keep away from rocks
Excellent result. Safe passage.
Well done, guys Hampshire 🇬🇧
Thanks Wayne
Nice parking!
This will make a great dingy for your big boat 😃😃😃
Where she should be, in the water looking brilliant. Absolutely lovely boat and a great turn of speed.👍
Great video can't wait till the big girl has her day 👍👍
Great progress and loving the content. I’m on the hard for preventative maintenance and missing my winter cruising so looking forward to living vicariously through your passage on the next video, hope it’s not long before it’s up 😁👍🏻
Great job you have done on the boat. She looks good. Now you need to find some 🐟
Beautiful sound that engine
Safe passage and fair seas! Dont you need a decal on the tender so its named Baby Boutari😅
