You can see that he is just broken. Him being the black sheep of the family his entire life. He asked for help and was denied by his own father probably crushed him even more. At the end of season 2 you can see still has some empathy left in him when he decided not to shoot Sarah and the rest of the Pouges when they were on the boat to escape, I think him learning how to love again and how to trust again can really change the outcome of Rafe. It's no surprise Rafe turned out like this with his family being so broken.
A lot of people hate Rafe and honestly I don't hate him, he's just very misunderstood..

i dont hate rafe, honestly. its a very unpopular opinion but its true. yeah i know, hes a horrible person, he killed someone, harrassed the pogues, and im not saying that justifies ANY of his actions, ofc not, but if you just pay close attention to what hes gone thru, its a lot. his own father doesn't even love him and just hands money to him to "replace" the love he shouldve given him. and i think he hates the pogues bc they "took" kie away from him. its obv they had something in the past. and now with kie being with them, it looks like he felt betrayed and put his anger towards them. and hes an addict bc he surrounds himself with junkies and people who are bad for him. he killed the chief to make his father proud. I don't blame rafe at all. i blame Ward. he was the one who who pushed rafe to act out like this. nothing i said justifies his actions that hes done, but if you put one and one together, you can't completely blame him, but his father. he felt neglected by his own family. that's something most don't consider based on his actions. almost every villain has a specific reason for the things they do. but rafe is not the villain. its Ward.

OMGGG YESSS!!! after realising his dad was a really bad guy, and everything he’s done, rafe doesn’t want anything to do with his father and doesn’t want to be like him either so he threatened to turn his dad in for everything and then his dad attempted to hurt him so then rafe ends up defending himself and ends up killing his dad by accident, he tells sarah, and he turns himself in for .

@@shataysianelson9414 that.... actually makes SO much sense. JJ and Sarah do look alike, but not as much as her and Rafe, so that could indicate half-siblings. Plus JJ is a LOT like Rafe in some aspects, but a bit like Sarah in others in ways where he actually shows sympathy for others. It's also a pretty big coincidence that both of Sarah and JJ's moms have just disappeared without explanation.

this is beautiful. at first i was like this guy deserves no mercy, he deserves all that’s coming to him. but actually looking at everything and understanding him more i understand why he did most of the things he did. he wants his dads love, he wants love and attention. he just wants his dads love and his full attention. his hearts in the right place just wrong intentions. he definitely needs help. rehab for his addiction, therapy for his mental illness, and jail for peterkins life and everyone he messed with. i hope season 3 brings him character development and some type of help for him. ❤️

after the second season you realize even more how much rafe predicted help, and he always said that, he gave signs that his mind was not right; one of the best things about outer banks is the incredible construction of the characters, rafe is the representation of many young people who apparently have everything but, in the end, have nothing. he had issues that could be dealt with, but for his father, appearances were more important, so the issue turned into something irreversible...

Some kids has the same storyline as Rafe (not the murdering one). Those kids who haven’t got attention, love and help from their family. Specially those who he looks up to. I hope he gets a good ending. He was not at the right state of mind and end up killing someone. But to be fair, he should be punished. But I really pity this character. And he’s so relatable. Parents should treat their children fairly because it affects their mental health.

Rage’s storyline breaks my heart every time I watch this show, he’s done horrible things but he just doesn’t realize it because he’s so brainwashed and manipulated my ward that he can’t think straight and even after him asking for help, his dad still denies it. I think a big what if in this show is what if his mom had been around.
