You can also do the Terminator 2 effect, create cilinder and make it array, then set as brush and the character as canvas waves and move the character to the bars
thanks for the video demo, it certainly blows the mind in discovering all the potential there could be with all these different types of dynamic painting methods.
So what you do is play the timeline, and then when having the object selected, you simply press G while it's playing to move it freely in space! G is the shortcut to move!
Thought i could run this on my current setup but then i saw you add a subdivision surface without waiting a couple seconds for your pc to freeze and unfreez.
I want to paint an object on, like make it appear wherever it is painted. I thought it could be done by using the alpha channel, but the object never disappears completely. It still shows up, casts shadow. I want it to be invisible wherever it is not painted. Thanks!
@@KennyPhases Thanks for the reply. Yes, I had it set up correctly, but since my object was double sided, using the solidify modifier on the plane, it was still effecting the light rays casting a shadow. I deleted the solidify modifier and just added a side piece to indicate it was a thick plane. It's all fixed now.
Could I please ask you to try something I have been struggling with? I have looked everywhere but can't seem to find out how to do this. I want to take a plane and turn it into a cloth sim so that it is like paper then I want to take that plane (a piece of paper) and dip it into a canvas like how your hand goes into the canvas. The only issue is that it is not working correctly and I am not sure why I have tried a lot and looked online but can't seem to find an answer. Even if I add a plane and then try to set it as a brush it has no effect on the canvas I think this is because of the fact that it would be set to mesh Volume so I tried setting it to proximity which didn't help either. How do we make something affect the canvas when it has no volume.
You may need to add a solidify modifier and APPLY it to give the mesh some slight thickness so it actually has usable geometry. Feel free to DM me on Instagram so I can further help you out!
@@KennyPhases Alright I will try that and get back to you thank you for the advice. I think I did try the solidify and that didn't work I also tried extruding the plane to give it thickness but that didn't seem to work even when applying scale.
@@spacejourneywaves5420 select the object during playback, and press g to enter "move" mode, and then try moving your mouse around without clicking, message me on instagram if you get stuck!
can someone please help me i did everything in the video but when i try to move the sphere it just selects around it, the mouse icon doesn’t even change like it did in the video and the sphere doesn’t move. When i search how to move objects with my mouse i get options about the 3d cursor and the cursor is not the issue. This is stressing me out cause when i try to move the sphere it won’t move, the only way it can move is if i press g and when i do that the sphere goes through the mesh it doesn’t work
Please message me on instagram and send me a screenshot of the issue you are facing so I can try to help! "g" is typically used to move an object, but in order to see the effect, you must also PLAY on the timeline so you can see the sphere interacting with the plane.
This tutorial & others like it is why I sub'd. Geo nodes came in & most creators balls fell off. They all abandoned or forgot about all these great features that Blender has. Keep on doing what you're doing, it's great material. 👍🏼🦘🐨
most usefull video on dynamic paint that I ever see. Thanks
Thank you so much!

Pushing play on the timeline while moving the brush is the information I have been missing all these years. Thank you!!
No problem!
This is Fantastic Kenny! The gears are now turning 🙂. Thank you.
Glad to hear it!
I think you should be recognise more in blender community... Thanku for providing quality content ❤️
Thank you!
Very cool. Many thanks .
The plane displacement along a path would be great for tire tracks through snow or mud
Yes 100%!
BLOODY awesome ....... thanks Kenny!

Dynamic Paint is so awesome! Thanks for posting!!!
Yes absolutely!
very simple and straight forward to understand for a beginner. 🤝salute.
Awesome!
quick tip if you want it to be smoother and not set your pc on fire you can select the object, right click, and click shade smooth
Correct! Great tip!
@@KennyPhases thankyou^^
YOOOO GG ON 10K!!!

This channel is soo underrated. Great content as usual !! Thanks Kenny !!
Well done.
Such a great tutorial and so easy to follow...thanks for showing us how to make such incredible effects!
Could it be used for something like having a character sit on a bed? Since there would be some deformation from a body's weight.
Yes definitely. You would have to expiriment with the settings but this is definitely possible!
Amazing 👏🏻
13:23 how did you move it whileit was playing!?

My first idea was to have an anchor scraping the bottom of the ocean :) what's everyone's ideas :)
Great idea!
this is awesome. i always want to do water effects but simulation kill my computer.
I hope this effect helps!
Amazing tut ! is there any equivalent in C4D ?
I personally only use Blender for my projects! But, I'm sure this is possible in other programs as well!
Thought i could run this on my current setup but then i saw you add a subdivision surface without waiting a couple seconds for your pc to freeze and unfreez.
Yes that modifier can make or break a PC. Use with caution.
Not able to move sphere while playing. Any solution please?
same here 🙂
Are you using the G shortcut to move?
@@KennyPhases it's ok for me now ;-) cheers and huge thank for your videos !
@@MaximeBesnard Of course! So glad it's working!

I actually cover this in my Blender Course coming out soon! It's a different type of canvas, called "paint"!

How to move mesh while playing?
Use the "G" key shortcut!

when i play and then press "G", nothing happens..🥲

Don*t work
Make sure to follow all steps! This does work if you follow the steps correctly! Make sure you baked the simulation too!
