Invention used for towing storage containers

- Prescott Valley, AZ - Two Quad-city residents have invented a way to make moving storage containers easier, quicker and more affordable. The trick: turn the container into its own trailer.
I see that UA-cam recommendations is bringing us all together again.
Nah I actually searched this xD
I was looking for an answer why some Africans were stuffing a Korean bus chassis into a shipping container. This was one of the results from the search.
I thought of that years ago but never owned truck big enough. Glad you thought of it and actually made the device ❤
Next thing you know, Red Green will put a ducting system down each side and hooked up to 53 gas powered leaf blowers. Get 'em all cranked up and create an air cushion under the box. Once it gets off the ground, just push it where you want it.
J W. just add skirting, and you got a hovercraft 👍
I'm in love with this invention. I give this information a Nobel prize.
No brakes, no suspension, no chains, no brake lights, no clearance lights, no plates --- looks like you're ready to hit the road buddy.
And I didn't see a way for it to bend between the truck and container....
Yo, the lights are right there on the trailer, you should correct your statement.
Inside of a private yard, shouldn't be a problem.
Open road... every PD just made their budget in fines and then some.
Wonder where we are on width. No mudflaps on the highway? Nice idea. Think there's more work to do.
@@sethwatson8952The bar that attached to the front of the container nearest the truck has a pivot point in the center of it where it pivots just like on every tow truck it's the wheel lift bar also known as the tow bar it has different sleeves that slide over it that you can use to either lift a car by its wheels lift a truck by its axle lifted truck by its frame lift a container by its frame and they're not going to put lights and stuff on it if they're just demonstrating their product if you notice right before the video ends he engaged the parking brake so if he was going to transport it he was probably getting out to install his lights dumbass fucking people
That's awesome. I've made it in my brain but you made it in steel. Nice work.
i thought i could smell wood burning
There is no brake system on those wheels, I do not know about the US but in the EU anything over 750 kgs being towed needs to have a breaking system in place, otherwise illegal to tow
John .Mitch
That's a good point, brake assist, cz when the t/truck slows down to stop, all that weight is pushing it forward.
It does have a "breaking" system in place. The roof of the container could crack and crumple if the assembly takes a hard enough bump and the metal has fatigued. You know, like Khan.
As to your assertion that anything over 750 kgs (750kg) needing a "breaking" system which is obviously a misnomer (braking is correct), the weight you have indicated is pathetically low. In English measure, 750kg translates to approx. 1650#. For those of you who don't get that, it is the designation for pounds, not hashtags, in this circumstance. Over here, we tow cars and trucks of varying weights. Few, if any, weigh less than 1650#. Even though virtually all have brakes, the towing vehicle rarely activates the towed vehicle's brakes. In the case of a heavy duty wrecker towing a truck with a semi trailer attached, the towing vehicle often has hookups to use the semi trailer's brakes in conjunction with the wrecker's. The same hookups are used when towing a semi trailer without a truck in between. The extensions, of course, are not used in a direct tow of the semi trailer. Now, all this stuff is to point out that the braking systems in use on towed vehicles are limited to air brakes linked to the towing vehicle's air braking system. Any combination of vehicles far exceeds 1650# even in the lightest circumstances. I don't have a data chart on hand, but I think it's safe to say that any conventional car weighs in excess of 2000#. Most, well in excess. As to the fact that cars are equipped with brakes, towing them correctly with a tow truck requires that the brakes are inactive during the tow.
IMHO, the devices demonstrated in the video are designed for use in a very limited area to precisely place a container in a location that isn't readily accessible by conventional methods. Even though it could feasibly be used on the road, it doesn't have adequate ground clearance to accommodate the highs and lows it would encounter.
John, THAT is one of many reasons why we don't live in the EU.
Yeah, this isn't a legal highway usage setup
In the US any trailer weighing 3000lbs or more requires brakes with a break away switch. If towing another vehicle with tow dolly requires breaks on the tow dolly normally surge brakes. In some states you can tow a vehicle behind a RV without having to have the towed vehicles brakes working but other states require a apporatise that will engage the towed vehicles brakes. If they wanted they could put electric brakes on this dolly with a long cable and the small break away battery on the dolly in case of separation from the tow vehicle. They could use magnets to hold the cable to the container and put lights on the dolly. It would be legal as long as it didn't exceed 102 inches in width. And container would have to be empty. As for tires they can use 17.5 j and they would easily carry the weight of the container. The carry 6500lbs per tire in single mode that's 13000lbs per side for 26000lb combine weight. A empty container is no where near that.
Very nice. I made something simular for a one time tow and welded to container. Yours is impressive.
interesting, but the main drawback I see in this, with wheels on sides of the container is that overall width exceed maximum width vehicles allowed on roads which is 2M55, when a container is 2m50, at least for europeans roads.
Wheels should be under the container, which btw would need to lift the container even higher to place the wheels under.
Where do you buy these?
Looks like a lot of work. Pulling it onto a Landoll looks easier and faster.
@Mr Sunshines you sure about that? I don't know what these guys charge but you can almost always find a landall, and since they are pretty standard they aren't ridiculous expensive. These are "new" and limited quantity and limited range and weight....so seems to be pretty niche...niche usually means expensive.
@ priced a used medium duty tow truck?
And the advantage of a landoll is I can haul ALL sorts of stuff with it, not just containers
I assume this is just for moving empty containers around. Those wheel don't look like they could support the 30,000 lbs or so than one end of a full container could weigh.
Kenneth Mileski don't try to comment on things that you are completely incapable of understanding.
Yes. The container is empty. Move on to the videos of kitties being cute or other things that astound you.
An empty container is NO WHERE NEAR 30,000 lbs. They are 6-7,000 lbs depending on the type (open top, dry, high cube, etc)
kwl don't try to reason with idiots.
kwl : I had to pick up an 48' container at Dallas, it weighed 10,000lbs empty.
Brian Landers 48' is extra long
So instead of a trailer one just needs a tow truck. Awesome!
Great idea hope you continue to develop things to put on highway
Best of luck
I don't understand the comments bagging it for road use. Of course it couldn't be legal for that purpose - but for moving an empty container around a private property - its awesome!
Why I am watching this at 3am?
Jacun because you like fast cars 🚗.
Haha, I am thinking the same thing at 4:30am
Me 2
Now back it into driveway at desired location.......Any cdl driver knows tandems forward or back, what happens when you back up....... Your back up radius gets tighter or larger.
I think it is a great improvement of the dolly.
LOL i guess you need a 300 thousand dollar tow truck as well
Farm tractor works well
I wonder how many violations you'll get if DOT inspector catches you, just few I can think of would be no fenders, no brakes, no registration/insurance, no break away safety system. in my state you can't even put a car on a dolly if it isn't registered. otherwise cool idea, really cuts down on storage space versus a specialized trailer.
Wow this is totally revolutionary in genius.. these guys actually put these round things under a box.. and they can move it.. just imagine the implications?!! Move that shipping container out of reach of the crane!!!! Now you're f**urcst... Going to get upset!!I want to see this thing going down the highway??
.
.
except you have to have a $200k tow truck first lol.
Well that's a start. Redesign it to where the wheels go somewhere closer to middle and it need a tongue to where it can attached to a pick up truck.
What about wiring and tail lights on the back of the container, so it can legally be pulled on the road? (It might need a temporary plate, too, depending on the state.)
I would like an adapter that would allow me to hook up to the 3 point hitch on my tractor, so I could move a container around on my property.
We have other systems that are DOT legal, check out www.containermovingsolutions.com
Look like dollies on a tow truck
There is NO Mudflaps on the Dolly Under the Container, No Lights on The Sides or The Back of the Container, and No Safety Chains..... And, You can only use it for Empty Containers....
Now go order a DOT permit because it is beyond the legal 102" limit.
Not to mention it doesn't have any brakes which, because of the weight, makes it illegal in almost every state.
kwl : I don't think the purpose of this, is on the road! It sure would be handy to move an container around at a sight where you needed tight maneuvers!
We shuttle containers around with big forklifts. That's still a lot of work to put those wheels on and bring in a heavy duty wrecker. You can find people all day long to winch load and deliver containers on gooseneck trailers or rolling tailboards. Cheap.
This is very smart. My only question is do you need a license plate for the dolly? Or how does that work with the dot?
I think its a cool idea. I would add some brakes to the dolly and beef up the frame a bit more. If you could sell a kit to attach to a 1 ton pickup it would sell.
davidbrennan5 so...you think a 1 ton could actually handle the 15,000 lbs tongue weight of a loaded container ? Not to mention...it would still be more viable to just buy a gooseneck trailer for said 1 ton then you could move more then storage containers.
1 ton pickup can pull 30 000 lbs. The design needs some work, if they added a second set of wheels at the front and connected to a gooseneck hitch and had brakes on all the axles I don't see why it wouldn't work. That is a prototype, it could be improved.
@Mr. Sunshine no shit sherlock, I see farmers pulling 40 000 lbs of hay daily with diesel pickups and goose neck trailers.
@ROTAXD you wouldn't move a loaded container this way . This would be for moving a empty container only . Use common sense
So it's only strong enough to move those containers empty do to the weak spindles on the dollies. And would you need over sized permits since the wheels extend passed the 8ft wide mark?
Robert Murillo ... Not too hot on the Inglis, eh?
Simple but very effective.
Stinger and dollies. Awesome.
Over 103" wide?
What about the bridge distance laws for each state
cool idea
Ok, great!
... but...
Are they legal?
Who is the company?
Do they sell the systems?
How much?
Container Moving Solutions
Whew, that tongue weight! Nice and simple though, good job.
Ikr
Approximately 4000 pounds on a tow truck stinger is no concern
Handy rig
Relax, guys. The wheel assembly isn’t being presented as something for high speed and/or highway use. Rigging up anything to prevent the container from “bouncing off” is unnecessary
Can you help me ? please ? i am looking for work please help me. . I have 21 years
Lol
It appears the size of those wheels are not structurally strong enough to carry just the weight of container. Imagine adding loads to the container. It definitely would fail . Additionally the container floor framings aren't design for this type of load distribution. It need modifications to floor framing to accommodate the load distribution to double axles. It also need spring struts or shock absorbers!
These containers are designed to hold 80,000 plus pounds and by stacked 7 high. Gross weight for empty 40 footer is about 8700 lbs.
How does it steer tho? Seems to me that you are missing a swivel point? Nor the trailer or the boom are able to turn
You need to understand what an invention is, that's a trolley and they've been around for millennia
smart set up
Hello, I'm impressed with your video. Can I use it on my channel in one of the compilations? I will include your channel in the description and your name in the video
Container Moving Solutions
Hey that’s awesome idea kudos
Awesome concept...
Should make those wheels go forward more on the container like a trailer, it'd take shorter turns..
Now there's something I can definitely use.. what a great idea..
Not only is this a wicked idea, depending on the distance though, these tires wouldn't last to long on a long or rugged trip.. I'd definitely upgrade it with air obsorbers along with thicker piping as well..
Still, great idea
Nice design guys! 🍻 👍
This is far from an invention, It's a twist on towing dollies, You know something every modern day tow truck driver has and uses? Ya it was invented about 60 years ago. Not to mention it isn't going to work for any loaded containers and likely is put in a hell of a lot of stress with empty ones.
JG Beast they stack them containers loaded 10-12 high, they can handle being moved empty like this.
beastm0de7 hey moron. Are you saying that this thing came from nature or grew from a tree somewhere? If not then it is an invention. You idiot.
I hope they're not taking that on the highway. That's a lot of stress on those lightweight components. Load range E tires have rated load capacity of around 3,000 pounds at 80 psi, so they have a maximum capacity of around 12,000 pounds with their rig.
6000 pound container
Lets see who invented the dolly, not this cat.
How do i get one of these? or plans? is it D.O.T approved?
I love this home video, and I'm trying to make the same video but it still can not be as good as the video you created

It would seem that if they wanted the container to mobil. They could install tires like on the frac tanks for the oil fields.

* why don't you do what everyone else does in the Intermodal railroad business do...
put it on a chassis and pull it with a real truck ?
then you back the empty container on the chassis up to a loading dock.

Keep the container on the chassis and use a loading dock.
If you want to storage room ,
build a storage room.
Have done more Heavy Haul and Intermodal than you ever have...

Anthony Schurz.........Who the fuck are you to tell people what to use for storage and where to store it at? There is no way I could ever prove to you the amount of heavy haul experience I got through UA-cam. However, just know that my knowledge is immense and this is definitely a cool useful idea. Your dumb question of "Why dont you put it on a chassis and use a real truck to haul it" shows me how much experience you really have. You dont know anything about the towing or hauling industry. I always love when people start off by saying "why dont you....... or your should ..............". You should just stick to cooking or baking or whatever it is you do best.

Build a storage room( building ) that has dock ( ramp )... use container on chassis, coupled with a tractor ( truck ). back the rig up and slam the dock.
Unload or load at Cross Dock inside building.
Do you want me to draw your picture?
If you want to do small-time storage, you're better off building a small shed or multi-use building.
If it's going to be just for temporary storage. Call up Mobile Mini Storage, they've been doing this for decades...
Just like I've been driving big trucks and building big Industrial buildings.
" mean dog061980 " that's a funny name...
One that all the drivers would always laugh at in the driver's room.
I really doubt that if you've even been to any of the railroads " Intermodal "

Anthony Schurz it's empty. It's EMPTY! This is used for delivering EMPTY containers to buyers.

For temporary storage...
Especially if you live in a HOA.
Would prefer to have a building that is bigger, and designed around needs...
Instead of crappy container from China...

Invention? More reworked (hate to say dumb down) version of existing rear axle combo in use for at least a decade on containers? I ain't investing in it. Too sketchy.
Its called a dolly
Speed Loader dollies from the 70's.
Up dated and up rated.
wish I had thought of that.
Very nice money maker.
How much would you sell those for?
Contact Container Moving Solutions. They manufacture and sell them.
Almost entirely yards that sell these containers will deliver "locally" for around $60, this delivery has to be $250.
Cheap! You mean $60 locally in Saigon?
@@greghayes3100 no, I had it done so that is how I got that figure plus "they" told me it's pretty standard for "local"
@@drofmah3836 in Australia a basic local tow will set you back about $150.00
Shame it can't be used on the road in the UK. I can get a 20ft on my trailer legally, the 40ft jobs are too big for my stuff. The width with the wheels and the hitch don't comply nor does the lack of brakes on all 4 wheels. No mudguards and probably other stuff they'll make up at the side of the road as they're rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the first violation of the day. Though if I had a show mans license I could probably get away with driving 6 of them along the motorway using a lawn tractor at the age of 11 ... such are our laws. There's a bit about being close to home if you're spotted too, but I believe that's discretionary.
I don't know what the regs are in other countries, but if you can get away with it, good luck to you.
v8trauma show mans license ?
Yes, circus, fairs and such like. Showman's hauliers certificate or something I believe they call it. Towing has relaxed a bit of late, we can now go for the big caravans as per mainland Europe now, but there's limits for us mere morals. They can tow some silly combinations around without so much as a twitch from the law. The rights were grandfathered back when Adam was a lad. Something to do with making a living and a lifestyle choice, so the new laws didn't apply when they came in several decades ago. It's a genuine thing here in the UK, probably the same elsewhere too I shouldn't wonder.
ROTAXD www.ukhippy.com/stuff/showthread.php/26143-showmans-vehicles
this might enlighten you. I was being a little liberal with the truth regards the lawn tractor at 11, but they can drag stuff around most would be shot for.
v8trauma Christ Almighty that's a bit scary. They're pretty much unregulated.
ROTAXD They would say there's more hoops than necessary for them to jump through, but it's swings and roundabouts ... see what I did there ... oh never mind, I'll get my coat.
one of the best ideas I have seen.
Where can I buy a set of those
The manufacturer is Container Moving Solutions.
you have to be close to 10 wide at the wheels right?
Yep so still less then a street legal tank.
Andrew H street legal tank ?
Any tank or APC can be driven on the roads as long as you have a disabled weapon and rubber pads on the treads to not rip up the surface. Oddly they say nothing about needing break lights or turn signals like you need to add on most military to civilian conversions.
no suspension?
This version does not have suspension, we manufacture and sell other versions that have suspension. Check out Container Moving Solutions.
silly invention. The empty container was put there using a crane or fork lift. That same crane will load it onto a tractor to my final destination after which it will be unloaded. This childish toy cant even be allowed on the road and will pose a danger on hills, climbs and corners as the container can fall off
So how would that work with a loaded 40 or 20'container? Great idea if you're just moving an empty container less than a mile but DOT would surely snag yo ayess on anything but a back road
Finer than Frog Hair!!!
How much is one of those?

Wonderful idea indeed
Yep, they invented tow truck dollies and a tow truck with a hydraulic lifting arm. Looks good but probably hasn't got any further practical use.
Where is being towed to.
Is this for empty containers only?
I want to build a tiny home/ mobile boutique. I'd like to build it out of a storage container. I'm trying to figure out how I could tow it, with it being as low to the ground as possible, the width being road legal, and I don't want to have to drive a specialized tow truck, like this, or a semi. Does anyone have any idea's? This seems like kind of what I would like, but not quit.

Great concept but looks like a pain in the ass.
what is the system called or where can I find it?
Lookup... Tow dollies buy a bit of steel 4"x4" bars weld it on the corners for the container to sit on and lock onto and you got yourself this creation. I am obligated to tell you though, This isn't new they are basically tow dollies that were invented about 60 years ago and it is guaranteed to break if carrying a loaded container and maybe even an empty one.
I’m guessing this is an empty container.
Yes, correct it is for empty containers.
Where can i get a set like that can you pm me with info pleases thnks
Contact Container Moving Solutions.
Of course it only works and empty containers… those wheels are not set up to all any kind of weight
If you happen to have a massive tow truck
Good ol American ingenuity strikes again..
If you were going to all the trouble to engineer a dolly to work on this why in the world would you design it so the tires were at the very rear. Not hardly the way I would have done it.
Were can I purchase one of these ??
Give us a call 928-775-4144
I'm assuming this is only for on-site moving. Anything over 10 miles an hour and it looks like that would break. I looked everywhere for something like this when I bought 15 40' foot containers. I ended up spending $1300 on materials roughly and welded together my own casters that can handle 3300 pounds each. The reality is that most of the time when you need to move these things, they are loaded. The problem with mine is that it has to be a smooth concrete surface or level asphalt surface. This is good for gravel and base rock surfaces. If you get into damp or dirt construction areas, you're going to need larger dump truck size tires on each end which adds the problem once again Of jacking up the container. I give you seven stars for conception and three out of 10 stars for the wimpy Jack's or you put in the middle to tilt the trailer - ouch, I hope you have improved on that by now. I heard airbrakes release on your main tow truck so I would suggest a simple air operated toe Jack to raise each from the back then Front for safety or for air operated toe Jack's linked together in unison if you can afford it or four people if you're popular.
AllUpINC I guess I should clarify when I said "look everywhere "I meant to say, "looked everywhere for an affordable way." I had 15 containers to move around on site of which most of them were 40 foot containers. I was working with a single axle taken from an office trailer that was rotted out but we saved the axle did the following: Cut the axle with a chopsaw. Used a larger pipe with matching inner diameter to the outer diameter of the axle to stretch the dimensions to 9 feet so that it could straddle a shipping container. We slipped chains through the corners to keep the axle in place and lifted the front with an articulating Quarry loader(Fiat 645) to move it around. This really required some more time which I did not have to utilize the mounted leaf springs. Since everything now is on concrete and asphalt, I welded together four casters that lock in place. When I move it now, all I need is a good toe Jack and my four lock in place casters. Except for the jack, the cost was roughly $600 per corner and is designed to be a one person operation. I was moving a 20 foot container filled with scrap steel which was about a quarter full - very heavy! Each caster can handle roughly 3300 lbs or 13,200lbs or 6.6TNS. This will allow me to move smaller containers inside of a pre-fabricated steel building without large forklifts needed.
Hi are there any companies in nj that do this?
Christos Volikakis easily 55mph all day long.
Seriously, would anybody seriously consider this an acceptable method of moving a FULL container? Comment on videos that are applicable to your own field of profession. This isn't one of them.
Dozer1642 The system is set up, I am currently using with the containers filled. In reality, having an empty container under 10 tons is rarely the case.
now it's a load that needs permits flags and lights
can you order these
I have seen a couple of guys with these kinda systems an there tires blow out on the highway.
@ does that change the tire size or just the load?
