      I have a large polycarbonate cover for a street lamp that I am currently restoring. Can I use ordinary acetone?

    Acetone makes a good substitution for ABS and PEI :)

    Is this the same principle as the one behind the soft drink can in hot water containing some chemical and used to re-polish cloudy headlights?

    Really nice, saw some videos before. We do plastic surface restorations for many years (cable cars, gondolas etc.)
    Where can we buy the equipment in Europe? Does it work on stage (portable) outdoor? Thanks for the informations.

    This works on PE (polyethylene), but will it also work on PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol)?

    To protect against Methylene Chloride, the NIOSH Chemical Pocket Guide only recommend respiratory protection in a supplied air mode. Therefore, there is no cartridges suitable for an application where Methylene Chloride is present. soooo, what cartridge are you using? What is the "positive air pressure "system the technician is wearing? Thanks.

    Very interesting. Is there a similar method that could be used with polyurethane resin like or including smooth on crystal clear? Could save me a massive amount of multi-stage hand polishing. Thanks for another great video.

    What grit sandpaper is best suited for this kind of polishing?

    • @joesshop3622
      @joesshop3622 8 місяців тому +1

      2500 to 3000 and then polish. The further you go up in grit the easier it is to finish and have it look perfect. Also if you start low like 220 grit, each progressive grit MUST be stepped up in small increments. Don't want to skip grits to find out in final polish you can still see rough sanding marks from advancing to rapidly. Use a mister and some water with one or 2 drops of Dawn dish washing soap to keep your sandpaper clean and your material from burning as paper typically loads up without it...

      @@joesshop3622 I polish under the water tap with water flowing, this works quite well.

      @@vanillaexplosion99 Most certainly, I mention the mister for applications that cant be soaked or are simply "at the bench friendly lol"

    Looks like methylene chloride (dichloromethane). Simple enough.

    Must wear positive pressure mask…and yet the video shows a person doing the process with a regular organic filter mask. Hahaha
