- Katniss now has a new battle braid in Mockingjay, so here's a tutorial for it!
Difficulty: Moderate
Hair Length: at least shoulder length
Materials: one large hair elastic
Skills needed: French fishtail
Time cost: 5-20 minutes
ideal hairtype: any

Thank you so much for this tutorial, it looks gorgeous! I think I will wear it for archery today, although I will mirror it so my braid won't fall down on my right shoulder. I think it is weird they do that, because it makes it ten times easier for the braid to get caught in the bowstring when you shoot, than it would be if the braid fell down on the left side. But it still looks gorgeous and I love it!

This will be tricky for me....my hair is longer than my arms, so it makes separating strands so much more difficult! Normal fishtails are easy....but French fishtails will be difficult on my own at this length because it's also super duper fine and mats together....I love thie braid, though, and will try it!

I love watching your videos I have almost the same colour hair as you do for me it is a realistic expectation of what my hair will look like I hate it when girls with ombré dyed hair do braids mainly because they have one colour underneath and the braid is another colour so it looks really different I also love the fact you don't attack the braid at the end over fluffing it until you loose the beauty of the braid that frustrates me soooo much when people giving hair tutorials fluff it until they look like they have been dragged through a hedge backwards hahha luckily you have a ouch sense to leave the intricate beauty your nimble fingers have created alone and only fluff it were necessary thanks so much for posting :)))

I'm an archer and I wear my hair in a french braid during shoots because it keeps the hair out of my face without making me look like a boy as a bun tends to. However, with this comes a lot of people calling me Katniss despite my trying to explain it's not the same hairstyle :P

i'd love to do this but for some strange reason my fishtail braids always wind up looking like normal braids. maybe i'm not using thin enough strands or maybe it's just the fact i have curly hair. i dunno.
Use thiner strands and you'll see the magic :p
Yes, smaller strands is the answer! Using chunky pieces does look just like a regular three strand braid. The smaller the sections, the more intricate it looks!
I have the same problem! I'll have to try making the strands smaller I guess.

I don’t know how you do it! Your hair is a lot like mine, thick, red and slightly wavy. It’s hard to do styles on your own with our hair type. I watched closely but I still don’t get the fishtail technique at all. 🤷🏼♀️ I can do this with normal french braids though and I may try it tomorrow.
I wish my hair were as pretty as yours. :( Mine's way too thin to get any nice looking braids.

You just need to train, I think this is easier to learn how to french bread with a fishtail braid because it only have two strands. Keep training until you got it ! ^-^
