What's not to like, good music, fun cruising around in your car & the chicks, it was pretty close to my 1974 senior year

The 70s seemed like ancient history even at the time. But the movie came out less than 20 years after the time it portrays. The movie is now 30 years old.

I think it depends on how old you were when it came out. My guess is if you went to high school in the 70s and we're in your 30s in 1993 when it came out the 1970s probably didn't seem that long ago like it did to kids like me.
If a similar movie came out today it would be set in like 2006 when I was in high school and the 2000s don't seem like all that long ago to me. 🤷‍♂️

70s and 90s were much more similar then the 90s and now. The technology was still pretty much the same. With some exceptions like VCRs and CD players and microwaves. We basically lived the same way are parents in the 70s did. With a few upgrades. Anybody with a cell phone in the 90s? People assumed they were rich. Its night and day from the 90s until now.

One of my all time fav movies.I have watched this movie more times than I can count and I feel like one of my past lives was in the 70’s.

One of the best movies ever. If Dazed was made today in 2023 it would take place in 2006.

To me there’s basically no difference between 2006 and now. But 1976 and 1993 are like night and day 😂

@@Rob2068agree 100%!! The difference in everything from music, clothes, culture, etc was worlds apart 1976-1993. Basically everything now has been homogeneous since the 2000s.

@@Rob2068The 70s and the 90s were much more similar. Then the today and the 90s are. In 2006 only like 1 in 3 people had a cellphone. And social media was almost none existent! And almost no dudes pretending to be women!

Seems unfair to call a movie that didn't put the studio into debt a "failure" considering only a couple movies net positive and the rest are boat anchors

the 1970s...by way of the 1990s. I lived through the 70s! But like 'Stranger Things' they took a LOT of Hollywood liberties about the 70s, including a lot of phrases, jargon, and slang that WERE NOT and not used in the 70s! The 70s were still VERY innocent. The drug use was very few and far between, not nearly as much as what's shown in the movie. And on the last day of school, high schoolers DO NOT go through hazing. That would come in college, and definitely _not_ on the last day of school, when all you wanted to do was GET OUT OF SCHOOL for the summer, so you trashed the hallways with your papers and books, and made a run for it! Then spent the next few weeks with friends and family, and going to various local keg parties. And nobody hung out in 'coffee shops' which were not around at all back then. Very few kids had cars, so bikes were the way to get around. And of course, technology wasn't a thing, yet. A great time to grow up!

I tell people all the time, the 80s traditions in my hometown in Oklahoma were really just an extension of the 70s. We all still drove 70s cars and the feathered hair went on and on...this movie was exactly in some cases scene by scene my youth. Also it needs to be noted this movie lifted over the edge....completely stole elements.

hmm claire and alicia would have both been good in this, but maybe alicia was too recognized then.. the only bad casting was wiley , geez he was aweful.. nothing about him fit his character , there was no way a guy like that is the starting pitcher .. and he wasnt a average guy either.. he was wimpy geek,,whose sister was cool and popular, theres no way her friends had never met him before ,,,

He was so un athletic in real life. He needed a stand in extra to toss the 1 pitch he throws in the movie. And Claire Danes must have only been 12 years old in 93? She was only 15-16 when Romeo and Juliet was made!
