The M8 is definitely one of the coolest music devices I've ever seen. It does almost everything I wanted but couldn't have back in tracker days, and does it in a nice portable package with a slick interface. The only big thing missing is some keys and/or pads for real-time note entry. And, of course, it doesn't magically grant its user the incredible skills on display in this album... but developing skills is half the fun.

THIS is why I got an M8. And love the M8. And took your advice to spend more time on it instead of my phone. TY for that!

incredible project mate. as a long time dnb listener I can say this one of the best dnb project and it's made with such a tiny machine. awesome

I truly believe the M8 is the single best piece of equipment for electronic music production. If I could have only one thing, it’s the M8. In fact, since I got it I’ve sold off a huge portion of my studio gear. It’s pretty much just the M8 and SP404MK2 (they’re great midi partners!)

The piece of wisdom that you share at 36:50 is what I think a lot of people need to hear, including myself.
It relates to what you talk about in your video about “when to share pictures of your new synth”.

Oh Jeremy, this is really cool. More M8 content please! I got mine because of you and sort of discovered DnB/Breakcore for myself

This is the best tutorial I seen on the device. Really helps me to not only understand the device, but also the workflow and method to make tracks. Nice work, thanks 😊

Ah brilliant! So cool to learn a bit about the M8 and your workflow.. I've been listening to the album alot and just amazed at how you made such great tracks on this little big wonderful box.. Your skill level is super inspiring, as someone who was into Dnb/Jungle in the 90's I'm loving it all.. Thank you J🎉😊

Thanks for the bundle releases and these Q&As. It's super interesting and helpful.
To my surprise the M8 was probably the easiest to learn device I ever had. And I've never used a tracker before.

"because of its form factor it feels like playing a video game" that's the biggest reason why I would go for this over something like the Polyend Tracker I think, even though I hear they're both great (although I heard the M8 is more powerful)... I like that the workflow and command shortcuts are basically the same as LSDJ, just with the buttons in a different place.

My biggest hurdle with the M8 is that I've always used pattern trackers such as OctaMed/Soundtracker (on the Amiga), Protracker, Renoise, Famitracker, etc... My workflow is very much not memory-effecient - I will rarely repeat a pattern number because further down the line I may decide to add an articulation or slight change that I want in that particular place, and I don't like the idea of it changing every pattern - so - unique numbers for every pattern or bust! That way I'm always adding little details and variations and I love that workflow!
The other problem is that pattern trackers show you each voice/channel vertically, so you can see EVERYTHING that's going on at any given point in your track. I find this super useful for coordinating fills, transitions and drum breaks across the channels, and only being able to see one voice at a time in the M8 is bumming me out a bit.
Other than that, I love this thing, and I really enjoyed your video and tracks!

Seeing the song pattern (10,20,30,etc), I'd assume the cloned chains (11,12,13,etc) are just variations of the same patterns? Wish you would do more M8 content (even as a paid service) for those of us who are learning how to use it.

I love programming on the M8. I think it allows me to be as precise as I i want to. The only downside is live playing is not as great as elektron machines for example. So why not both?

DNB Roller is track with any timing. No matter what drums or bass groove. It’s just constantly repeating. The brake in question called syncopated. No special names.

It amazes me you can get something sounding so great from those pages of random looking code!

    • @Baegus
      @Baegus Рік тому

Once you spend about an hour toying with the M8 (or Littlesounddj for the Game Boy), it stops looking like random code and suddenly it makes perfect sense. Doesn't make it less amazing that he's capable of making such amazing tracks with it though.

1:07:25 Red means recording it’s a segment from the Amen Break in reverse…
But a jazz musician (drummer) would be better at nailing the form/practicality
See Bernard Purdie for more info…

M8 Headless thru a GamePi43. Thats what I did before I bought the real thing. Cost me about 200 to build and I learned to code a bit thanks to the process. And building it was really fun.
