- Great and obscure early 70's glam / proto punk offering by this proto punk bunch.
If you collect this kind of stuff on 45 - drop me a line as I quite often have similar records or spares for trade etc... If you played in the band or know a band member - please let me know. If you have the record at home and it's nothing you need to keep - please let me know. Thanks!
All soundfiles are taken from the record depicted.
If T Rex had released this, would've made the top 10. Criminally underpromoted.
My mum took me to see The Troggs at Salisbury Arts Centre when I was 12. They played this song and I didn't know where to look.
I DJ'd when they played there in the early 90's.
MAN, the Troggs still HAD IT!
I saw the Troggs playing Live at a club in Yeovil in the late 1980s and they sang this - took years to find a copy!
LUV REG!! Great Lyrics! Too Cool/Funny...Great tune....Uhh...
Man, what a great tune. Love the guitar sounds.
my friends and bandmates (two of them) went to see a Troggs gig at the Whiskey (in hollywood) in the late 70's. they came back with this dazed expression on their face (one day later mind you) -- "imagine if the Troggs had a caveman playing guitar."
"and then they replaced him with Chris Britton -- who made the caveman (that he had replaced) LOOK LIKE EINSTEIN." apparently they had laughed hysterically like "omg can you believe this shit, this cannot exist" through half of the entire Whiskey A Go Go set. mr B must have had an utterly unique collection-of-one caveman style assaulting and aubusing his instrument, for them to have their minds fuckkked in such a way (without psychedelics). judging by the Troggs recordings A to Z through the 60's...maybe he was still struggling with "the bar chord thing" hell yeah why not.
"NOTES AND CHORDS MEAN NOTHING TO ME" -- red cross/redd kross LA
Note however: the "david bowie TV special" version of this song (by the same Troggsz guys) was FAR better, i mean like it rocked way more and was just 10 x better.
YES! Saw them at Max's Kansas City in Manhatten on that same tour. They played for a week or so. Reg was all over my gf with his eys. He was a horny bastard. But ain't we all.
Some of you younger folk may not know this, but The Troggs were on the 1980 floor show Midnight Special doing this. Cool as can be!!!
they might know them and their cover version (fantastic), by the Dwarves.
when this was released as a single, it got lot of airplay on radio 1, but when they realised it was about watching pornographic films, the airplay dried up- its a fantastic single-still got it on vinyl
powerful stomping , still rocking
Stomp! and Bang! the Dance Floor!!!
WOW!!! Reminds me of early Alice Cooper.
Awesome
The guitar riff reminds me very much of T. Rex's 20th Century Boy, which came a bit after this. Hmmm.
Those two notes are a Rock 'n' Roll staple and comprise the barre chord variation of thousands of rhythm guitar lines
Reg R.I.P;
Kool !
Love it
👍
@friendlier Indeed - sadly Mr Bolan isn't around more - otherwise one could have asked;) Thanks!
ah shit this is jamming. I wonder if Devo got inspiration from this for one of their early cuts I Need A Chick.
So naughty! ❤
i like troggs special voice
How odd, I have this on several compilation albums, and it's a rather more understated mix. this is quite different indeed.
This song is a sound of the Flamin’ Groovies/T. Rex hybrid!
Where can I find this version? It's the best!
I think Rob Zombie took this sound and went with it
Sounds like The Sweet.
ha, this is heaps perverse. I love it! Did the Troggs release any else like this?
Loads of their tracks are super pervy- try 'come now'
Are You kidding?? omg!! Get their anthology!! Your best bet is the singles package or a double album. They ruled! Saw them at Max's in the city[N.Y. Great stuff!
The B side is pretty good too.
I think it was called "I'm On Fire"
what kind of system is mindblowing!?
Probably the 1st rock song about porn.
aus meiner Jugendzeit - stark -
Toooo Funny....Uhh...

Looking for this for some time. Was it ever released on an album?
You will find the 1981 re-recording on their album Black Bottom.
Last night I saw a, uh, strange movie, uh uh
Everyone was in bed
Last night, it made me, uh, feel groovy, uh uh
Watching things that they did
There was Bill and Sue
Jake and Sid and Mandy too
They went uh uh uh uh uh uh uh, well!
Sid and Mandy they were, uh, getting randy, uh uh
When Sue and Bill they joined in
Jake was waiting and uh anticipating uh, uh
Started smoothing their skin
Then just to ease the strain
They all formed a daisy chain
They went uh uh uh uh uh uh uh, well!
Playin' with your friend is just a bluff
You got to get it in but don't be rough
I know that it ain't easy
But it's the only thing to please me
When I hear my girl who's shoutin' "that's enough!"
Waaoh!
My friend Cindy, she said uh
Got it in me uh uh to phone up Josie and Lou
No hesitatin', we were, uh, dialing, dating, uh uh
Everyone that we knew
Now if you've never made your friend
This of course I recommend
Cause we went uh uh uh uh uh uh uh well!
Waaoh!
It was a strange movie, uh uh
It was a strange movie, uh uh
It was a strange movie, uh uh
It was a, uh uh, uh uh, uh uh,
Uh uh uh uh uh oh no, oh no, aaawh! Well!
Thanks for the lyrics.
i have had this single since it was released but could not make all the words out so thanks for that-
This pre-dates the Stooges and Led Zeppelin.(original version)
No, this version is from the early 70s. They re-recorded it in 1981 on their Black Bottom album.
the slowed down cheesy version they eventually released and played was a travesty. if they had only stuck with this version the world could’ve had more powerful raw troggs songs outta the 70’s
whoever made that call fucked up.
i bought a compilation troggs cd because this was on it but it had the terrible version that you are talking about on it- i was gutted
