Brilliant, so glad I've seen this video, I just bought a harness. Put my cat in it and she escaped in 20 seconds, fortunately she was in a safe place when she did. I was planning on tying her to a chair with harness on my balcony...thanks to you. I WILL NOT DO THIS! You more than likely saved my kitty's life, she once fell off the balcony (5 floors) but fortunately she was ok, so I'm terrified to leave her there, and now that I know that harness is NOT safe, I'll never do that. Thanks so much!
This is probally the best video I have watched on this topic, you are extremely underrated. I am getting a new cat extremely soon, & although I have already had some, I have never really been on adventures with them. I will make sure to master this topic, & master my cats skills. Thank you for this video.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for your feedback and comment. I hope your cat’s training goes well, keep me updated!
Spot on information and advice. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video.
I’m glad you found it helpful!
Thanks a lot for your video, i'm now more aware of the "how do cat escape their harness".
My cat and I walk outside on public parcs since a year and a half now so he's very used to it and loves it. But today was the first time he escaped his harness because he was afraid of a man that came to us and try to approach him. I've never been more afraid of my life than when I saw him run away. Fortunatly I managed to joined him before he went to far and calmed him with treats and put him back in his backpack.
I'm quite nervous about the fact that no harness is 100% escape proof but thanks to you I understand more about where to put myself according to him so he can't escape.
I just hope that the next time will be better (i'm definitly going to buy some gps tracker before, that i'll put on a collar in addition to the harness)
I’m so sorry that happened! It is so scary. I’m glad you were able to get him back though. I’m glad you found the video helpful!
Tom Thumbs just had his 6th birthday and got his 4th harness, having outgrown the only one that fit him. We walk around block and parks at our suburb home, get out in the woods at our cabin. Always on his leash. Yes, he has his Catio at each location, along with a large enclosed backyard where he can practice his predatory skills chasing lizards and crickets.
Safely walking a cat that WANTS to walk is what they need.
That's awesome!
Recall Training! My cat is super comfortable in harness with leash, so I guess this is the next step! My cat doesn't fight getting into his carrier but he's not thrilled with it, so I'll need to improve upon that as well for Backpack Safe Space reasons!
Thank you for the videos! My cat has been shredding through the content, to the point that I'm the hang-up slowing him down.
I definitely recommend recall training and backpack training! Very useful skills. It sounds like your kitty might enjoy clicker training too - the Cat School UA-cam channel is full of great clicker training tutorials. Lots of fun and great for bonding!
Very helpful video! Thank you 😸
Very helpful and informative! What is recall training?
Training them to come when called
Very good video and informative!
Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful
I’ve 4 cats, one already trained to go out without a harness & coming home safely everyday on his own for his meals & naps, the other 3 are manually monitored when they’re outdoors, i will be getting air tags to track all of them just to feel an extra layer of safety should they wander off too far. Thanks for the video for all of us to understand our kitty companions, instead of training our cats, we need to train ourselves first on how to understand their body language. New subscriber here cheers
Yes! Training ourselves is such a big part of it! The more educated we are, the better we can understand our cats and their needs. Thanks for subscribing! 😸
This was such an informative video, thank you!
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it helpful
The harness i have is too short between loops. I'm thinking it's just cheaply made. The loop around her neck is fine, the loop around her chest is fine. But the harness is tight because the strips from her neck to chest are too short. I can fix it but wanted people to know to check that.
Agreed, my cat escaped harness in 5 seconds. This was my poor planning. Mybcat is a very laid back Norwegian Forest cat. I have a small fenced in backyard, lucky for us, he does not like high places. I used a run (meant for dogs). He backed right out of harness in 5 seconds. 🤦 Fortunately, i can keep the harness on him, just not attached to the run, this way he just casually wanders and explores his backyard in safety. Im always outside with him when he is out.
I’m glad you found a safe way to explore outside with your kitty!
Great stuff
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it
I wanted to ask, is there a reason why you would put the tracker into/on the actual harness? I just bought one but I thought it should be put on another collar or something similar which is not connected to the leash. Because if cats get out of the harness, the tracking device won't help
That’s a great question. You’re absolutely right, if the cat slips out of their harness, a tracking device won’t help if the tracker is on their harness. If your cat is most at risk to slip of their harness, then I’d definitely suggest putting the tracker on their collar.
Some people opt to put the tracker on the harness instead because some cats have a tendency to lose their collars often, especially if they’re breakaway collars. For those who maybe let their cat off leash to explore (not necessarily something I recommend) or whose cats are more likely to slip out of their collar than their harness, putting the tracker on their harness makes sense.
Some people opt for both - a tracker on the collar and a tracker on the harness - so that they are covered in all scenarios.
Catios are the only way to go. Every cat I've ever had could escape a harness in 2 seconds flat. If you blink they're gone. You did a good job with this video in hopefully raising awareness that cat's anatomy makes escape proof harnesses a myth. I blame instagram for everyone thinking a cat needs to 'go on adventures'.
It comes down so much to your cat’s training. The goal is to train them thoroughly so they don’t even try to escape their harness
if your cat is trying to escape the harness they probably don’t like being outside.
Am I the only one that saw the flying bird or am I imagining things. ??
Keep your cats safe inside or build a catio
5:35 is your cat using your floor for toilet paper?
No - his back legs are disabled, so he has a funny walk
@@kittycatgoadventures I’m sorry. My cats have done that at times after using the litter box
So I can’t bring Mr.Meow camping?
You can if he’s ready for it! I bring my cats camping, and so do a lot of other people… but I wouldn’t recommend it unless your cat has been acclimated it and is used to being out on adventures already.
And why do cats have reptile eyes😂
