Thanks very much for the videos Rob. I'm self taught on small projects like garden walls, conservatory bases and porches, being a paviour/groundworker by trade I've always sidetracked. I've just applied myself to a block and stone-work garage that had to integrate into a wall higher than its' roof, which was a patio to higher ground behind the building. The brickies on site took the cream and went onto pastures new, so I persuaded the agent to let me have a crack. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.The whole experience raised a massive amount of interest in brickwork for me and after coming across your videos on here, I have to say, they're the most informative and educational I've come across. The 1kg of mortar per brick was an eye opener, I knew about 60 bricks to the sq/m, but mortar (sand /cement) quantity was always a guess, but the best tip I've picked up so far is how to make broken bond look good. Years of experience explained in a short video, you are what UA-cam is all about, thanks again!
As an apprentice from way over in Canada I truly enjoy your videos and these bonding lessons are a great listen. Please come over to the west and teach. Are industry is dying to this lick and stick stone (cultured stone) and there are so few real bricklayers and with those bricklayers they aren't half as insightful as you. So from Canada I say thank you for these videos! Its so great to see there are true craftsmen like your self still left in the world
hi Fester, your frustration over walls not being brick size is something us bricklayers have frustrated over for many years. There are a few reasons for this but mainly it is to do with the varying size of bricks, which prevents accurate wall lengths to be set
hey Alan, that is so weird, I literally copied that booklet for one of my students last night and the next thing is you asking about one.... I have only been asked a few times for this and I've only given it to those I know. But please ask me again in about a month....and I'll see if I have any news on selling it.
Hi Rob your videos are great and they stimulate interest to the art and science of brick laying. do you happen to be able to send pdf notes to study for begginers like myself
+Albertdog101 hi, the Rules of Bonding are written in the booklet that is briefly mentioned in the video. At some point there will be a summary video as well
Hi Rob, great videos and excellent advice. Just wondering if you have any videos on the placing of concrete ready for steel columns when removing a rear wall for an extension and getting levels etc accurate. Any advice wold be welcome.Cheers Paul
it's all modular here but even it's not bond 10 brick transfer that number down the wall wasting time is just that .you could do 20 on along wall.it is actually more acurate.example if you're laying out truss anchors you would not measure 16 inches mark it measure 16 you would use a 50foot tape, more accurate
Why dont the architect just make work for brickwork especially when there being paid so much ,,,and would the clients not talk this over surly they wouldn't want anything but brick measurements,
Rob I'm a bricklayer and you are a master of the art mate.

I thought it was 4 brick to 900mm whatever the size of brick?
The problem is architects. There are two types of architect...those that don't know, and those that don't know they don't know
rip vanwincle 4 bricks is 880 but if you actually add a 10mm joint to each outside brick is does add up to 900mm .
That's it mate i tape everything 4 to 900 everything's always worked out perfect.
A 4 brick pier is actually 890mm, just as a 2 brick pier is 440mm. (One joint less)
Excellent ill be watching that video agian thanks Rob great video
I'm glad you found it a help
Hi Rob, love the content of the videos, how can get copy of your booklet how many pages does it have.
hey Alan, that is so weird, I literally copied that booklet for one of my students last night and the next thing is you asking about one.... This one was really brilliant👍🏻
Hi Rob your videos are great and they stimulate interest to the art and science of brick laying. do you happen to be able to send pdf notes to study for begginers like myself
hi Nick,
yes....I have a few booklets and one is for beginners, I was hoping to do some basic brickwork lessons soon to go with it.
Rob, I do hope you will be able to make your book available for the Kindle format on Amazon. I'm eager to purchase a copy here in the US.
yes, if I manage to get it sorted, there will be many more to follow.
thank you
Hi Rob, A month has passed and I am still interested to get your booklet. Alan Mooney
I'll get one sorted, where would I send it?
My email is 123sundays@gmail.com
very helpful rob many thanks
hi rob great videos mate , i was wondering if you have a formula for cutting voissers on archs of different sizes cheers
+mark frearson May I suggest you look at the video on here, 4 Centred Arch and see if this helps
I'm not understanding why the bottom course sits below grade?
dry bond/first courses are always just below ground level to ensure that when the brickwork above is seen it is all correct.
Cheers again for the video Rob. Where can I find the rules of brick work please?
+Albertdog101 hi, the Rules of Bonding are written in the booklet that is briefly mentioned in the video. At some point there will be a summary video as well
Thanks Rob, is there a cost for the booklet?
hi again Albertdog...the booklet is still in the process of being rewritten do I will be advertising it later.....keep watching
That I will Sir, cheers for the swift answer. And thanks for taking the time to make the videos for us, top notch stuff mate
Hi Rob, great videos and excellent advice. Just wondering if you have any videos on the placing of concrete ready for steel columns when removing a rear wall for an extension and getting levels etc accurate. Any advice wold be welcome.Cheers Paul
Hi rob just wondering where I can pick up this book?
Craig Sloane
now trying to get it into an ebook.
keep watching and I will advertise when it happens.
thanks for watching
Also looking forward to this book. I've published two ebooks myself so if you need help with that, please feel free to contact me.
Hi Rob I'm sorry m8 I lost your message ,
What did u say the size of a 3/4 brick is please m8
it's all modular here but even it's not bond 10 brick transfer that number down the wall wasting time is just that .you could do 20 on along wall.it is actually more acurate.example if you're laying out truss anchors you would not measure 16 inches mark it measure 16 you would use a 50foot tape, more accurate
if measurements are made to suit brickwork, there should b no problem
+shanie leddy on extensions and stuff you may not be able to
Rob, where do you get your booklet on brick bonds from?
Why dont the architect just make work for brickwork especially when there being paid so much ,,,and would the clients not talk this over surly they wouldn't want anything but brick measurements,
Rediiculous to change bond in middle of wall running bond you could trim 1/2" of a few brick in the same spot
