If Unai thinks Barkley would add to Villa, I'm all for it
I'm a little on the fence with Barkley, but if anyone can get a tune out of him it's Emery.
Personally, i think this is the season Douglas Luiz goes, much as i hate it. He's at the apex of his reputation and at that point where his contract allows Villa to max out the transfer fee, especially if we can get a bidding war going. If Luiz goes, I'd be looking for £65-75m for him, which I don't think is outrageous given his experience, quality and pedigree. The funds could be reinvested in Gallagher and Wan-Bissaka for probably a combined £75-80m, which I think would be good business and free up funds to possibly sign Ndidi on a free and help satisfy some of the PSR worries. With Kamara, Mings and Buendia to come back, it'd be like another three new signings anyway. My only concern would be needing a quality backup striker, but as long as we can keep Watkins fit and Duran happy, we might have enough firepower to have a good season.

I'll be amazed if we get Connor Gallagher, hes Chelsea throigh n through, some London Boys just cant adapt to Living in Birmingham! They get too homesick and drive home every weekend not fully committed to club! 😮

Exactly! One is £2m and the other is >£30m.
One is a luxury and the other almost becomes essential at the price point.
If he carries his form from Luton then yes a good squad addition
Purchasing Barkley is a necessity bought about by FFP, restraint free we don’t consider him but under current conditions he actually becomes an astute acquisition. Personally I think Dougie goes and subsequently we get the funds to purchase to create squad depth, of which Gallagher will be one!, if Dougie stays then Ross would be the more attractive option!. @@SirUnaiEmery just need bums on seats that we can slot in and rotate to rest all the time now,, the options need to be there,,,, barkley is a no brainer,, and he has ability to be decent,, we dont have to run him into the ground and we can use him in all competitions,, much better than donks
and chambers and tim,,,,, and we need players in,,, we can get the other fees if needed
@@davidblurton7158💯 Barkley will not sign on £40k pw thinking he's first choice. Hopefully he simply backs himself to fight to put himself 1st choice. Emery has shown if you do that he'll put you in.
Question fornthe detractors is; Is Barkley a better option than Donks and Chambers? The answer is yes and he'll be on less than both of them. Silly to not sign him really. Anyone that would come in ahead of current MF options are minimum £80m.
Honestly we should go all out & sign Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland. Looks very good like his bro. Won't be too expensive either,better than Barkley aswell. Have a look at his goals this season. Deffo like Gallagher to come, type of player we need. Gibbs-white i like aswell. Couple of frees like Hermoso or Rabiot & we'll be looking good, gotta offload those deadwood players though, get some money in & obviously we're gonna lose at least one big name by the looks of it, either Ramsey,Luiz or Ollie or even 2 of them. Id sign jobe bellingham too only 18 and hes very well rounded between defense and attack thats what frustrates me a bit with who ever chooses our players i feel they miss out on ones like that too much and are looking at barkleys 😂
I think some villa fans still have small minds. Barkley = Strength in Depth + Experience. He'll be a great influence in dressing room and can play in a couple of different positions in midfield, will be brought in as a backup to Kamara/Mcginn. The youngsters can learn from him, he's just had a return to form, it doesn't matter if that's in a struggling side, for me this is a no brainer, especially considering potential FFP considerations. At the end of the debate; all there is to it is that if Unai wants him, then I'm all for it. Simple. Trust Emery/Monchi unconditionally, so whoever comes in, its all been thought through and we should "trust the process"
Barkley was in a very average villa team before trying to carry the midfield AND be a creative attacker! Even McGinn and Watkins were underperforming under Smith / Gerrard in prem! Under Maestro Unai in a proper specific role in tactically drilled team, Barkley will thrive at his best, and become better! 😮
Luton deployed Barkley in much deeper role and this really seemed to suit him. I see him being a backup option for Kamara and I'm all for it. He has ability, but if he doesn't perform its not like we've broken the bank for him.
Gallagher would be an unbelievable signing.
Not to suggest Gallagher can't fit in, but he'd actually be something different. If you think his style is more akin to our own than Barkleys this season, you cannot have been watching either player too much.
We all have our opinions but I think Ross Barkley is a good signing. We desperately need good players and numbers with 4 fronts next season. If we had had a full squad last season then yiu could have added 10 points to our tally
Based on last villa loan no. Based on last season totally yes. He smashed most of Dougie luiz's stats with luton so a great back up at worst.
Can see sense in AWB. But id prioritise a right footed CB who is much better in the air than Carlos or Konsa
He will be a good enough squad player & especially for the money .

@@Jgf802 he was brill till injured,,, and we forget how good we were with him and jack,,, never recovered after that which was a great shame so we never bought him,,,, but he looks to be over it now
Where were those stats for Chelsea, Nice or even Everton. I think the bigger question is where we're those stats when he was younger? His natural ability can't be in question. Perhaps many other things were but sometimes people change.
Seems to me he's realised his career hasn't gone as he would have expected/hoped. He's grown up and realised he needs to apply himself more. If we get him he'll have turned down Man Utd (I'd assume more money). That speaks to someone focusing more on their career - or what's left of it.
Oh and the first half of his loan to us was really good.

Agree on Barkley, undoubted talent, but he’s a bit moody from what I see. But hey if he comes he still get the backing
Barkley on a free or Gallagher for 40m? Easy choice. The squad has to be bigger and spending 40m + big wages on Gallagher doesn't make sense from a budget and squad construction standpoint.
Easy choice is Gallagher mate. Much better than Barks. The lazy choice is Barkley.

If those are the options I’d take Barkley and use the 40 on other players. Build depth. But Gallagher would be a better player if it’s one or the other
@@brock4291 Agreed on all points, which is where I'm coming from. Gallagher is overall better (of course younger, which is advantage for him) but isn't near the passer.

I'd say, ask yourself the question, do you trust UE and his recruitment team? If you do, then trust that they've talked to Ross Barkley re:signing and the role he will play for Villa and that they are happy to bring him in. When he was here before, he was absolutely brilliant for the first few months but everything went wrong for him when he went off injured in the home fixture we had v Brighton which we lost. He never came back from that injury, when he played it was like a different player and you have to assume that that injury was far worse for him than we were ever given to believe. He's given a hard time because of the lack of form and impact he had at the back end of his time at Villa but he's not given the credit he deserves for his impact when he joined the club and the way he seemlessly slotted into our team and the understanding he had with Jack etc.... Interesting times for us and good use of free transfers will be what get's us through and the lure of Champions League should be enough to lure the players we want/need. We need several recruits to have good options and good cover for the injuries and rotation we will need to operate given all the things we will be playing for next season and hoping to finish in the top 6 to ensure further European competition entries in the coming season, we cannot operate on e threadbare squad again and hope to get the results at the end. As for rightback cover, how about the player we already bought and will be with us for next season? He cost £8m so not chicken feed, the lad Nedeljkovic, It seems like everyone has already forgotten this player or writing him off despite the fact he's a first team player at the club we bought him from, playing in European competition last season (I know he had an injury that kept him out a while).

We've outgrown Barkley, one decent season is not enough to help us achieve what we want to do. That Luton team was poor but everyone overhypes them and all their players.

But he`ll be peanuts. He`s solid, decent and he knows the Premier League. And he`ll be backup. A reasonable "6" "8".- what`s not to get?

The answer should be obvious. Add to that that either should sell for more than Barkleys fee and both are on higher wages.
