I would like to know why-it -is - I have -never - heard- this - fantastic - and melodic band....full of great harmonies.....and swoopy melodies and chords........until now. after all these years!!.....???? It's neat too because it is not really into the eighties but not 70's either ...Their song "New Romance" is one of my favorite songs now..There is something really beautiful about Amanda Blue Leigh....the way she looks and sings.......
I saw Lita Ford once play this song live. She was amazed when she saw me singing along with all the words. I don't think she ever recorded a version of it?
thanks guys... I got 'Everything is Alright' posted as well and busy trying to get 'New Romance' audible...all those old machines have been dumped in the garbage, talk about lost music/videos! it feels good to know some paid attention to those Spider albums *) amanda
Do you have a video for Change? So many people out there, myself included until a couple of weeks ago, are only familiar with the John Waite version. KSHE95 in St.Louis plays it sometimes on their Classics show. What a discovery! Happy New Year!!!
I was in my mid-teens at that time and in the Baltimore-Washington area where I grew up and still live, we had 3 or 4 urban/disco FMs (which I paid no attention to), 3 album rockers, four top-40s and one hybrid rock/top-40. You're likely correct about the PDs getting most of their info from the trade magazines and making their decisions based upon what they said. Maybe when "Better Be Good To Me" became a hit around 1984, maybe some of Spider's music could've been given a new lease on life.
You will love it, just as good as the first album, and I think it's a better recording overall. Love them both - plus their third record, which had the band named changed to "Shanghai" is also out on CD now too!
Anton Fig and I have just released a new CD called Blue.Fig (You can find it on iTunes and Amazon and other music sites) it has 10 of the best songs we recorded in our home studio during the 80's. I am surprised at the interest for 80's music, it's great *!* The CD is doing very well...xxx thank you
Another great Spider song. I think an artist later (maybe Fiona?) redid this song that got some airplay. As others have said, Spider had so much talent and was a great band, they deserved so much more recognition.
Because the band got too little exposure while they were together, virtually all of their recordings are all but forgotten by most people. Maybe if such stations were willing to have a 'lost music' show on say a Saturday or whenever, some music that was overlooked when new could be given a listen once again. Spider was undoubtedly a bit ahead of their time. I could've seen if their music was released a few years later that it might've been better received.
I just purchased the Spider cd. I've had the album since its original release and it still sounds fantastic on my phono.....I just have to have it in my car too. Really wish there was more by Spider....great band.
Have ordered the CD Spider/Between the lines from Amazon as you suggested. Am very eager to listen to the latter album in particular as I had no idea it had been released.
unfortunately no...there's one of 'new romance' & 'everything is alright'...still trying to get the audio a little better...would be very cool if the radio stations made spider an 80's classic band...thanks to "nccvball" and KSHE95...thanks to u 2 jasbigj xxxamanda
(p2) I agree with you that if Spider had been around in the mid-eighties, they MIGHT'VE been given greater respect! While there may have been fewer women DJs in those days, keep in mind that the PDs run the show and they all have a general manager to answer to! I don't know how receptive the Album Rock stations were to this band. Regarding the mainstream-pop of the day, you may be right. Unfortunately, much of the public didn't see it that way.
I grew up listening to this kind of music, but never heard of Spider before. I would have liked to hear in Guatemala all the music of the 80´s. We got so little music back then, coming from USA. But Spider is a great band, I went mad with this song and got their CD some months ago. All of the tracks are great, beginning with this one. I wish they could get together and make great music again.
Thanks so much for this! I KNEW there was a video for "Little Darlin'". There was one for "New Romance", too, wasn't there? Man, I think I only saw those videos once and that had to have been in 1980. Best Spider song ever!
Amanda, you are such a gifted singer! I love this song and I think that Spider's version of Better Be Good To Me is just amazing. Yeah Tina rocks that song, but when I heard the original by Spider, I was floored! Another song that you did better was Change, that John Waite covered. Your version way better. No offense to any Waite Fans, I like his take too. Thaks for the videos Amanda!
I remember a friend of mine giving me his double of this record ,he used to get tons of records sent to him as he was one of the top djs around Long Island ,I wanted it just because the cover looked cool and Amanda looked hot, superficial yes but was I surprised when I heard her great voice and the great players, better than Heart ,the music biz sucks and I know cause I'm still at it
Thanks so much for your post of the videos. Like other Spider fans on here, I was first introduced to you on USA Network's Video Concert Hall circa 1980. I really hope you get to post New Romance someday as that appears to be the holy grail of your videos! I got your double cd compilation of the first two Spider albums on cd and they are listened to a lot. Here's hoping you have great continued sucess in whatever you do...from one musician to another...don't stop rockin'!
Great stuff..ive had the 3 lps since the early 80s and id make a comparsion which may seem a bit odd ..but they are like Journey..great musos who made effortless sounding pop rorck music and went on to have distringuised careers later on down the track...ive been listening to the Shanghai lp today and it still does something for me..especially ''All of my tears'' at the moment Leslie
Wow ! great to find video clips of a great group. I think I wore my cassette out of this album after rocking to it so many times. I wish I could get a copy on CD. :0(
I'll confess while I was almost fifteen when "New Romance" became a hit, I didn't recall hearing it even though I was a regular AT40 listener back then. I do remember Casey Kasem mentioning something about it probably when Tina Turner remade "Better Be Good..." about 4 years later. Curiosity go the better of me recently and I wanted to know what your band sounded like, and have to say that you guys had some pretty good stuff!
Seriously,i love this band.Spider are the best reminder of the 80's........we love em.

Great to see, thanks, is there anything on video from Shanghai? Thanks again!

spider really rocked,i've loved them for years.thanks alot Amanda.
There is a video of 'Everything is Alright'. I used to see it a lot back in '81 on a show called 'Video Jukebox' on the CTN cable network.
Have you got any more rare spider videos Amanda?

I swear to God. KSHE95 played Change on their Lone Classic segment this afternoon. Thanks for responding.

Actually, I meant I thought there was one for "Everything Is Alright".
My word! Another one I thought I'd never run across again. I'm sure I still have both vinyl l.p.s! Thanks, Amanda, for posting this.
