- This is the Stage 5 theme from the fanmade Touhou game published by danmaq, Touhou Mutsuigeki ~ Concealed the Conclusion
Original: 青木ヶ原の伝説 ／ Legend of Aokigahara
(Track 5, from 卯酉東海道 ～ Retrospective 53 minutes)
"... never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
So once more, you're led to the unforgiving staircase of the Netherworld. You've been here so many times, it's hardly scary or imposing. Well, it shouldn't be, anyway. As you ascend each step, your chest fills up a little more with that heaving sense of dread; you sway from side to side uneasily and can't even seem to walk in a straight line anymore. Even lifting your head to see the way becomes too much. But as you briefly glance up, you notice a red shimmer in the distance further up the staircase. Your pace slows, and as you look harder at the faint spot of light, it begins to intensify, and slowly but surely, a ghostly silhouette begins to take shape around it. "Oh, so she is here," you wonder, "I was kinda hoping she wouldn't show up, just this once...". You grimace, as the shadow unsheathes the outline of that all too familiar blade, and you shakily pull your trusty hakkero from your pocket.
You wait for the first strike.
_The Aokigahara is the infamous Suicide Forest of Japan. It clearly reflected Miss Saigyouji's pain, when she thought that she was hurting others by simply existing. There were so many people who felt like her, and who did the same thing she did. That is, committing suicide under a tree._
_Yuyuko wasn't alone._

I found Aokigahara is a real place... And an incredibly sad place :( Makes this track all the more sadder.

+Mint Mochi The worst part is that there are some tourist destinations in there...as well as signs printed in English and Japanese urging people to reconsider. Before the government stopped releasing numbers, the rate was up to about 100 a year. And that's just the ones they found.

It is said Aokigahara is possessed by Yurei or Yokai, Spirits in Japanese mythology. People LONG ago would drag elderly people in the woods of Aokigahara because there wasn't enough food, so they would abandon them in the woods where they would starve & died. In my opinion, the Yurei are those helpless people & the negativity associated with those woods, as well as the suicidial people.
Intro to this song certainly is emotional.
...Which is then followed by a creepy part.
As I listen to this, my mind is like,
"The Aokigahara forest... I'm here. I see corpses all over, scattered. Who sent me here? Who wanted me to die...?
Its good to know 4 years later people still come back to this.

Oh...this is great arrangement. It well expresses the mysterious side of Aokigahara.
;_; The original version already sounded somber enough, this version just thrives in the sad and foreboding feel the song possesses. Especially the part at 1:50. Also, how clever of Danmaq. Aokigahara is the infamous suicide forest of Japan, and stage 5 takes place in the netherworld full of withered trees and cherry blossoms, who's boss ended her life under the largest cherry blossom tree. Well played, Danmaq.
Well, the song isn't made by Danmaq. It's just a remix from Zun's album >.>
It still takes a certain amount of skill to change the tone of a song from intimidating anticipation to grim anticipation. Just because it's a remix doesn't mean it doesn't deserve recognition.
"Gensokyo is ending. Reimu is dead." The ghost says to the witch with a grim face. "Why wont you just give up?"
"T.. That's not true!! There's no way she'd be dead!"
"... You fool." Yuyuko looks at her with eyes as red as blood. "Why can't you just accept it!?" She shouts to Marisa.
"..." A moment of silence. "Because... Because she's my friend! An' you don't ever leave your friends behind!!" Marisa takes out her hakkero, as Yuyuko raises her fan.
"So be it. I can't let you proceed with this foolishness."
This song. The characters had hinted at what was transpiring already, but my worries peaked when this song, this terrible song started playing for the first time, with Marisa wandering through the Netherworld. It really felt tragic; like something terrible was happening, and nothing could stop it.
And it was.
Ah the nostalgia, this was the first song that introduced me to Touhou, surprisingly I got to know Touhou thanks to CtC, I tried to download the game however I didn't know how danmakufu worked that time so it took me a while to get to play it.
Now try running it on Windows 10 and it somehow won't work despite being younger than EoSD or PCB
The end of the tale ends closer, even in the land of the dead, those who have long departed form this fantasy world, will face their end once more. They know, the guardians of the underworld, that you are coming, and the futility behind your actions.
The guardians of the place are the Key into finding your best friend....

And when I first played this game, I thought this was the final stage. No Joke.

...But am I the only one who thinks this theme is epic? I mean, nothing sad, nothing emotional.
I found it quite cheerful and creepy at the same time, but also incredibly epic.
0:37 gives me chills every time.
One of the few CtC themes that are way better than their originals, imho.

Yeah, I watched it with Cry the first time, Pewdie doesn't really take his games as seriously, and he makes some pretty dumb decisions during TWD. Chuck says the line during Episode 4, after they eventually arrive in Savannah. And no, I don't watch the TV series either.

Okay, so here's the thing... I love this song to death. Gorgeous, gorgeous piece. One of my favourite songs.
However, it makes me feel just a little queasy every time I hear it. Okay, a lot queasy. But still! It's probably because the song fits its title so well it's pretty far on the other side of the uncanny valley.

My computer used to turn on by itself on the nights. At first it was scary, with the time i got somewhat used to it... I think it had something to do with I/O switches and all that shit inside the PC.
