I've started and stopped the Lensmen series a few times, usually getting distracted after finishing one of the books. Always happy to find audiobooks of the series, though, and finally setting down the goal to read/listen to the whole darn series.
This is my first listen through. I look forward to loving it. I love long books. Even better when they are part of a series. I always feel excited starting a new series. like disembarking on a new adventure. TAWANDAAA!
I have to ask myself why in the world I waited fifty two years to listen to Doc Smith. Back in '69 my college roommate wanted me to read this book but I was reading Heinlein and wanted nothing to do with Doc Smith. Well, gee, both Heinlein and Smith are great science fiction writers. Just took a while to get that through my thick head.
Things were much different back then. I posted a few H.G.Wells stories lately and I'm surprised that I have not had a backlash. He does not hesitate to use the N word. It was too common back then.
I'm just joking. Taking it out of context. Just being immature. Like 6:43:44 "A tenuous but rigid rod of energy. A rod which swept hither and thither" haha. I know what u mean about some dated offensive content.I'm just p!aging around though. :). Like an otter in a river.
Enjoy and subscribe for more!

Got a lot of E E 'Doc' Smith books, read this series 3 times, similarly with 'Skylark' series. Corny language but enjoyable.

6:27:27 ... "Ever lengthening, ever thrusting rods"... My my, that is titillating.. I'm blushing!
Wasn't there any censorship back then?

Hmm why is this version 10.5hrs long and other versions are like 6hrs long? Is it a question of abridgement?
Ah I see the probable answer to my question in your description. Thank you
The shorter readings I’ve seen don’t tend to start until Costigan appears. I think that misses out some important background.
I liked the story ok except for that Cleo lady.
I'm reading the above comment I made 4 months ago and I'm like ... "What Cleo lady?" .
@otterrivers3765 hahahahaha I'm relistening now. I will let you know.
