I've talked to both Chris and Thomas about unreleased VC songs. They've told me there's sooooo much unreleased stuff beyond Valleyinare and some of the other new tracks from this tour but they have no idea if anything will ever happen with any of it.
I feel like Juston Vernon has moved on permanently. I found out about this band by accident when I randomly bought Repave at the record store because I liked the cover art. I've been in love with their short discography ever since.

When he says 'lover won't you talk to me about the long red war' I immediately get chills. That song is perfection. And then Bukowski at the end, whoa.
I'm sorry for you loss but glad this concert helped you get through the grieving. 💜 This concert helped me through a bitter divorce, as well as The National Live at Best Kept Secret
I was lucky enough to be able to fly from NY to Milwaukee for the final show of their tour last year, and when Byegone played, the whole place exploded.
Some of the portion of the band that isn't Justin Vernon is otherwise known as the post-rock band 'Collections Of Colonies Of Bees', and their other music is fantastic.
There is so much good music on NPR i cant keep up with it, but will be back tomorrow and the the day after, and the day after that, keep up the music flowing
Volcano Choir please guys put Valleyinaire and Blue Ni Ni up on iTunes!! Please!!! Don't make me wait YEARS to own these songs man, you can't be that cruel to me
While the top comment suggests listening to VC isolated from Bon iver, I myself listen to VC as an extension of Bon iver, a new chapter if you will. Justin Vernon has been leaning further and further away from his snowy shacked For Emma. While so many don't like this shift in style(believe me I understand, for Emma is my favorite album from him), I very much support it as we can see just how wide a range of music Justin can produce for us. His lyrics alone are enough of a bridge between his projects to keep me eager to hear what he has in store. VC is very much the embodiment of Vernon's sonic exploration and I very much enjoy it.
thats so crazy u posted this. i am listening to the exact NPR concert right now, for the same time, almost at the same place in the concert. thanks for posting!
Clarissa Bargellini Charlie Martin I was speaking to Chris (the guitarist) about that track, after a VC gig back in 2013. He said they already recorded it during the Repave sessions along with a load of other unreleased material, but the band decided that none of it belonged on the album. Hopefully they'll find a home some day!
Why do people compare this with Bon Iver? Just listen to this band as if Bon Iver never existed. Expand your taste in music! Try something else on the menu! Sleep on a different mattress! Drive a different car! Make yourself cry! Eat toothpaste! Poop outside! You get the picture?
I agree with you! If he wanted to make another Boni Album he would have. I'm thinking if you are looking for similar albums from this genius, stop now. I can't believe that he will do nothing but push his music to new places and sounds and innovations that he is a master at.
These shows with NO front lighting are really tough for you guys and gals on camera and producing the video, but you knock it out of the park every time. Well done.
Byegone Lyrics Day dead bye-gone Laying near the lights of the knights of the northern lodges There’s a border road No one slip slides or is stopping And the neighborly, sleeping in a coffin With enough keif You could really bore someone Took a rat trap out to the Ache Inn We were drinking all the ways to down Door 'as wide open You know what were saying 'bout us now He’s a legend I’m a legend And we both go tripping through the door Well, you know that we are northern now I heard you promise me At the north end of monogamy Cut there from filament lead Somewhere I heard you scream: For others’ hearts And in the limiest of lights Hold the keys to a Cuban flight that you won’t ever ride It’s time to up and die Set sail! Well, were off and definitely stumbling Tossing off your compliments, wow Sexing all your Parliaments
Other than the c9 low d, arpeggio/ strumming, I hear, put your finger on a d and drag it up to the next d, then again add e, practice that to you find the skipped note, pretty close,
I know people will disagree with this assessment but I think of Volcano Choir as a more evolved version of Bon Iver. Skinny Love aside (which is an all time fav of mine) the music just feels more powerful. Byegone and Comrade in particular. This is coming from someone who loves Bon Iver.
There are about 5 songs by Bon Iver that match this music, Skinny Love is NOT one of them. I really like live versions of 33 God and 715 Creeks. For Emma, Flume, The Wolves, Perth. VC are a better band.
Volcano Choir. Easy. Wasn't a fan of Big Red Machine, it's easily Justin's weakest project in my opinion. Repave is one of the greatest records ever created.
It’s been 8 years and I still hope every day that we’ll get a studio release of the Valleyinaire
Image are with you in that
I was literally just now thinking the same thing! valleyinaire is such an amazing song!
I've talked to both Chris and Thomas about unreleased VC songs. They've told me there's sooooo much unreleased stuff beyond Valleyinare and some of the other new tracks from this tour but they have no idea if anything will ever happen with any of it.
@@1984therocker Hopefully they'll find a way to do it...perhaps a limited edition box set. Thanks for the update! :)
I feel like Juston Vernon has moved on permanently. I found out about this band by accident when I randomly bought Repave at the record store because I liked the cover art. I've been in love with their short discography ever since.
Once listening to any of Justins live performance its always so difficult going back to listen to the original recordings
Totally agree. The emotion he puts into the live stuff is just so irreplaceable.
Thats totally true. I end up watching the live performances rather than listening to the original tracks
so true
I couldn't agree more. All the live stuff blows my mind!
yesssss
Years can go by & I still come back to this video to hear Valleyenaire. I wish they'd release new music--their talent is certainly missed!
God bless you NPR, you raging nerds with simultaneously great taste in music.
Always love the crowd cheering at the "legend" lines in Byegone. They know it; he knows it.
Edoardo - it looks like we’ll never know, friend....
One of the best concerts of my life, everyone was stunned into silence for the majority of the show.
All their songs are brilliant live versions. Justin collabs and always writes the most amazing music man. Modern day Mozart.
Love love love Volcano Choir! I think 'Alaskans' is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I wonder if we'll ever get another album. I can dream.
mason miller I have a feeling next year will be big
@@danielpinheiro7261 I think we may have another Volcano Choir and another Big Red Machine in 2020 or 2021...
@@philippelambert1475 we're definitely getting new music from Big Red Machine soon
Was just thinking the same thing.
@@philippelambert1475 you're half right!
I love how you can just see their outline and not their faces. It goes to show that they are actually just about the music!

I've watched this 27 times in the last 3 days. Great show.
The bridge in "Blue Ni Ni" is just out of this world
blue ni ni is incredible, i really hope we get a studio version one day
Unbelievable. Restores my faith in the power of music.
Probably one of the best live sets ever... The stars aligned for this one
I could listen to Justin Vernon live all fucking day... Volcano Choir has so much depth into their music with all the instruments, unbelievable
The high pitched "Well I know that you love me" is a masterpiece by itself.
Please don't get me started
What minute
This is an incredible performance. 🎭
When he says 'lover won't you talk to me about the long red war' I immediately get chills. That song is perfection.
And then Bukowski at the end, whoa.
Comrade is the greatest song of all time. Especially in its live version.
This helped me a difficult time when my mom passed
I'm sorry for you loss but glad this concert helped you get through the grieving. 💜 This concert helped me through a bitter divorce, as well as The National Live at Best Kept Secret
This music really is medicine. Sending a hug your way.
Just watch and listen! Music at its best.
I was lucky enough to be able to fly from NY to Milwaukee for the final show of their tour last year, and when Byegone played, the whole place exploded.
Jon proves how essential a good drummer is to this band at 34:11 oh my gosh, what a freaking awesome fill
Most beautiful collaboration. We need more from you, please. You soothe my soul.
Can't stop watching this show... amazing
This is what would happen if bon iver went into space! 🤤
Beautiful Stage.... LOVE BY FRANCESCA.... awesome
The Valleyinaire is criminally underrated
Well said!!
Love the absolutely psyched crowd haha!
I've seen a lot of shows and some things and also some stuff, and this is one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. All hail The Algorithm 🙏
It felt like such a silly secret to see JV at a Volcano Choir gig. The best music he’s helped output too - this is sensational.
One of the best bands. Majestic music.
Some of the portion of the band that isn't Justin Vernon is otherwise known as the post-rock band 'Collections Of Colonies Of Bees', and their other music is fantastic.
originally pele .
I would love to see them! The blend is perfection!
Valleyinaire is incredible

+nick arndt bahah! he's the flippin' man.
Best part of waking up is Volcano Choir in your cup
I like Bon Iver, but I've got to say, this is far better. Outstanding stuff.
+Luke Rogers I agree. 100%. New Bon Iver stuff is awesome though, might give us a run for our money.
This is the best version of Alaskans I've ever heard

I wish I could find a live version of Almanac. My all time favourite VC song
Comrade is so beautiful
byegone. goosebumps. everytime.
Love this. Great production work. Sounds amazing for a live recording. Would expect nothing less from NPR Music.
This show was so amazing! I was lucky to see them in such a small theater in Chicago

the old dude on the guitar is my favorite
There is no better way to start a concert than with the words "wake up"
Glad to see Justin live again! Love the new album guys!
Justin Vernon/Volcano Choir couldn't be more magnificent if they tried :)
And at once they knew, they were magnificent :)
They came to Toronto and I missed it. Had tickets too. #FML
Thank you Justin

The other band my son was in with Justin!!
Andy Fitzpatrick by chance?

Im in love with The Valleyinaire. Help me.
So tragic that there is no studio recording of it
Charlie Martin you're right man. I keep listening to it in here and I feel lucky, though.

My only complaint was that it was too short!

Just the singer, but to me, he sings with a different way than Bon Iver.

There's a dude in the crowd constantly yelling "Play seven sisters", which is a shouting matches song 🙄
Reminded me of Chris Martin but haven't heard Justin Vernon in really long, nice!
I really like how some parts of some songs sound like from Bon Iver really pretty interesting as well
wow....This is what I call "music".

Byegone Lyrics
Day dead bye-gone
Laying near the lights of the knights of the northern lodges
There’s a border road
No one slip slides or is stopping
And the neighborly, sleeping in a coffin
With enough keif
You could really bore someone
Took a rat trap out to the Ache Inn
We were drinking all the ways to down
Door 'as wide open
You know what were saying 'bout us now
He’s a legend
I’m a legend
And we both go tripping through the door
Well, you know that we are northern now
I heard you promise me
At the north end of monogamy
Cut there from filament lead
Somewhere I heard you scream:
For others’ hearts
And in the limiest of lights
Hold the keys to a Cuban flight that you won’t ever ride
It’s time to up and die
Set sail!
Set sail!
Set sail!
Set sail!
Hon, you plenty competent
So why aren’t you confident
It’s softening to be softening
Then why are you so constant then?
Are we going on a coat ride?
Well, were off and definitely stumbling
Tossing off your compliments, wow
Sexing all your Parliaments
Island,IS FTW. Idc what anyone says, that song jams
"Valleyinaire" Will change your life!
thank you for the recommendation! i especially enjoyed justin's 'dad dancing' at 17:45 hahahah
I will never know what Justin is saying in Comrade and tbh I'm cool with it
I wonder why NPR didn't film Still and Almanac in the encore. I was at the show and thought those two songs ended the concert beautifully
8:22 That finger-style guitar is amazing, wish i had tabs for it
Other than the c9 low d, arpeggio/ strumming, I hear, put your finger on a d and drag it up to the next d, then again add e, practice that to you find the skipped note, pretty close,
I was at the concert, did NPR not get 'Still' on video?!
they played Still and it's not here?!
