Thanks for the great instructional video. I recently purchased a couple of Sway rulers, and this will get me started. I also bought the mini and regular 4-n-1 rulers. They are my 2 favorites, so I knew my friend would love them as a birthday gift.
Great tips! But, I do have a few questions. Is the one teardrop you made in the center of the border? Do you have any videos that show how you mark or stitch when you have to make adjustments because the length of a border isn't easily divided with the size of ruler? I was surprised to you marked the corners first. I thought you'd start in the center of the border and work out to the corners when marking. What do you use the mark when the fabric is too dark to see the Mark be Gone?
I have a sit down longarm and am struggling with using rulers. This seems like it works best with a standup machine on a frame. Would you have any tips for people who have to move the fabric and use a ruler at the same time?
The part that I'm struggling with is at the apex of the curve. Not all your feathers are the same size which give it movement and still fills in the area. Can you do, or do you already have, a video that you go into more detail about the actual feather placement? Thanks Natalia. I love your videos.
Make sure to check out my book; Visual Guide to Machine Quilting Feathers, it's a great resource for the actual feathers. 😀 piecenquilt.com/collections/books/products/visual-guide-to-free-motion-quilting-feathers
For a continuous border you would need to measure and mark before loading the quilt on the longarm. If the border isn't divisible by 4" curves and I wanted to use the Sway 4, if consider making slight adjustments or 2 or 4 swags.
Would the same technique work with the smaller sized ruler for a 3 1/2” or 4” border? You really should post a link to the rulers bc I can’t find them on your site and the link you did post goes to videos. That is, if you really want to sell them. Just saying. 😝 Thanks. 🌷
@@NataliaBonner Thank you. I went and looked at the ruler, but what I mean is, if I wanted to do what you did with the feathers, as you mentioned, the one you used left room for the feathers but the big one wd hv been kinda tight. So sure, you can use them in any size border, but will I be able to make feathers like you did and have room for the petals still, in a 3 1/2” border?

Yes! Add grip to the bottom side of your ruler! piecenquilt.com/products/ruler-grip-tape?_pos=1&_psq=Grip&_ss=e&_v=1.0
About your basting…why do you do wavy lines? Love this ruler!
I generally don't, this was a practice sample so I was actually testing my tension. 😁
Thanks ❤

@@NataliaBonner Thanks for the idea resource. I will check that out.
How are you measuring the entire border length to figure out your markings?

why didn't you use a spacing guide when marking to account for the 1/4 inch that is added by using a ruler foot?
The way I designed the Sway rulers, if you mark like I've done, you don't need to add that in, the rulers have that designed into them.

You can use the rulers on any size border, the curve will just take up more of your border. Here's the direct link piecenquilt.com/collections/rulers
