I worked at Tesla starting in July of 2017 as an Operations Analyst out of the Bethlehem, PA distribution center facility and left as a Program Manager based out of Austin, TX as of September 2021. I spent most of my time in the distribution and supply chain organizations.
Before Tesla, I was a Director of Business Intelligence and Pricing at the largest Pet Food & Supply distributor in the US, Phillips Pet Food & Supplies based out of Easton, PA. My wife and I also owned a small business in Bethlehem, PA between 2016 and 2019.

Yes, and it will honk outside your house when it arrives and you’ll accept loan/lease terms before going on your first drive.
That would be perfect, I'm currently trying to save up for a Tesla so once I do finally get the money for it (I'm just gonna pay in full), it'll be able to deliver itself straight to my driveway like you said lol. The idea that DeepSeek’s compression would give a 20x gain in FSD inference is highly unrealistic.

5:06 ‘only TESLA uses cameras for self driving’. Other companies use sensors that are less prone to weather or other environmental interference. This is one of the reasons that FSD has so much trouble getting approval from regulators.
Let’s see. Wait for June in Austin.
That is because regulators are influenced by those that have invested in radar and lidar and do not want to lose their investment, thus they try to make it out a necessary. There is also other developers of self driving technology that is starting to agree that cameras is the way to go.
@ According to your theory, regulator ALL OVER THE WORLD must have invested in radar technologies. TESLA FSD has been unable to secure approval in any jurisdiction worldwide. Whereas, self driving taxis and buses are commonplace in several cities in China.

As a Tesla fan who's been very pro FSD... After getting a Tesla, one issue I have is that cameras can get dirty/snowy etc etc and there's no way to clean them while driving... I know the new model y has a jet to clean the front bumper camera but surely there needs to be something similar for the other cameras (except the front ones which are covered by the wipers).
Surely software alone isn't going to solve this one? This isn't something I've seen discussed too much in the Tesla bill community
Agreed. when I look at how dirty my car gets in winter, not sure how they will solve this issue without water spray for the cameras.
The side pillars have heaters somehow for some models. I am sure Tesla is worrying about this for new models. I guess the car could just drive to an automated car wash?
Im surprised Elon didn't move Farzad to the White House with him!

That's not fair. I've never heard any member of the team at Tesla provide a forecast as specific as anything near what Elon has been consistently providing for the last 10 years. Not a single one. Carpathy never did it when he was there... And neither did any of the other senior AI Engineers that worked there.
It was always Elon opening his mouth and making a statement about when he thought it would come in his ignorance of how long it would actually take.
Don't cover for Elon and throw the team under the bus by stating that they had ever made any prediction on how long it would take to achieve FSD that never happened.
Speer, Henkel, Porsche , Braun where all genius engineers....
Why would I cede my free will, my ability to make real-time decisions, to an industrial product? Convenience?A promise of safety in the space I inhabit with so many others? The fact that your ability to communicate your vision, at near real-time speed, and without making many noticeable mistakes, is indeed impressive. It almost appears to be FSD. And when someone like me calls you a "fanboy," you should probably slow your roll a bit and ask if there's some truth to what I say.

It is impossible for any Chinese company to beat Elon Musk's Tesla in the future, which has more than 10K satellites providing navigation, its own high-speed internet connection, the best AI, can be manufactured completely automatically, has a humanoid robot, and has transportation facilities even to Mars. Those who have bought Tesla shares clearly know that.
Can totally see Tesla cars driving out of the factory and delivering themselves to your home one day... and also Tesla owned cars being deployed to a region to run as a Robotaxis. 2026 / 2027 and 2028 are going to get nutty.
Hey Farzad love your channel. I’m a long time investor, future Tesla owner. TBH I’m a little concerned that when I buy my Tesla, it’s going to be vandalised. So much hate out there! WTF… I have to admit that the famous German salute at Trumps inauguration didn’t really help.
Agreed. And the problem might get a lot worse. The effects of tribalism seem to be getting worse every year. I would hold off with that purchase IMO
I'm sorry to say it so directly, but anyone who is so overly enthusiastic about AI in its current state has not yet tried to let ChatGPT loose on real-world challenges. All I've seen so far is replaying things it has learned from somewhere. Developing its own ideas and decisions is not yet possible and won't be for the time being. And that's a big part of driving. And the statement that fewer sensors and fewer measured variables would be an advantage is simply dilusional.
Then why is the stock tanking?
Great Video!
Would cameras work on foggy weather?
No
Waking up rested 😅 with babies 🤱 is medically nuts as a parent. Now Farzad, add 2 more kids and 10yrs 😂... You will beg the car to drive the teenagers 😅...
We can't even guess the changes coming.
I have full belief in Elon and Tesla. I’ve given each FSD iteration a chance. I trialed it again last month. I can’t do a simple drive without at least three interventions. In the one month I would have gotten into three bad accidents. Also on the same stretch of carpool in Irvine, FSD will yank the wheel towards the center wall every time.
One of the big inference efficiency boosts was they used 8-bit weights instead of 32-bit and got similar accuracy. GPUs are made to process 8-bit weights because computer graphics are 8bits per color component. Tesla's AI processors in the cars were built with AI in mind and it's possible they optimized for 32-bit weight calculations by stripping out all this legacy 8-bit compute for graphics. So they may in fact not see this improvement, even if this approach was applicable to them. The other efficiencies were model design and LLM designs are not applicable to vision. Different problems.
3x the speed on an sunny day in a map environment 😂😂😂
The irony in that FSD probably finds its way better and safer than you in unmapped areas.
@ where is your proof for? What does that even mean?
Do you think there will be any difference between HW3 for HW4?
No, Unsupervised Learning is Descriptive Analytics. Elon means Autonomous Self Learning Cars. Is Elon listening to his Tesla workers?
Unlikely.
cars going to the loading dock is nice, but it's a small step to full scale self driving on the street unsupervised.
Sounds easy, but I still can't get my MY to pick me up at the front of Walmart from anywhere in the parking lot. Until then I be a huge skeptic....
Thanks for an interesting take.
To me it seems like we are on the cusp of something. I suspect we’re near a tipping point with AI.
Such times come with fits and starts with the pace of progress and inevitable false starts, but that’s what makes it so interesting
This is an important development; using self-driving in the production process. Labor savings are important. Now all the investment in self-driving cars starts to pay off. It’s still a learning process and that’s good because the environment is completely controlled with fewer bad drivers to confound the variables.
Hoping that hackers don't take control of your car ...
dont the cameras need to be calibrated to go onto the loading dock?
What a like about deep six is that it is incredibly efficient with energy use.
Yes, HW3 still has a lot left to give. It will take a lot of effort to redesign the full stack to use mixture of experts (assuming it’s possible for an already specialized task), and people are probably already doing the cost analysis of upgrading HW3 to AI4 vs effort to redesign/retrain the model along with a massive amount of testing. It would be a change equivalent to v11 to v12. It may be the right decision long term, the question is how soon it becomes necessary.
The real hot take here is that what Deepseek has done for training and inference to improve efficiency, using configurable FP8 or CFP8 and memory compression, is part of Tesla’s efficiency strategy around Dojo hardware starting in 2021 that likely carried over into it’s latest massive H200 cluster. So if anything is true, Deepseek is following Tesla’s lead.
FSD is 1-3 years off. Tesla Robots are 10-20 years off. The problems are sooo much harder. Hope I am wrong though.

LLM algorithms do not apply to vision. The so called breakthrough is only on the textual data, vision models are way more complex.
Vision is simpler, LLM need to hold everything in memory, vision uses much lower memory, frame by frame. Some vision can be preprocessed in the latest cameras before getting to the computer.

Tesla will never build an AI Roomba. They will just teach Optimus how to vacuum using a regular vacuum cleaner.
This flew above alot a heads but I got the golden nugget. 😂
Because that is the most practical thing to do. Not many robots for single tasks, one robot for all the tasks!
And it will do a lot more, not just vacuuming. All choirs, and errands. The only human job remaining at home will be keeping the couch warm.
Yeah and lets see Roomba pickup spills,dog/cat shit, large items that would clog any vac, broken large pieces of glass, etc. Optimus will just sweep with dustpan, mop, pick up with old rag put in some container and take trash out. Optimus will even wash out the garbage cans when they get real scuzzy. I see it coming real soon!
even crazier, it will work as a retrofit fsd for older cars i hope.
Yes, but as Elon said in the 4Q financial statement yesterday - HW3 FSD will not work, if he is being honest. So all Teslas before January 2023 cannot be self-driving, unless they actually changes the hardware.
I don't quite understand why you find that Deepseek R1 have relevance for Tesla. It is like saying that FSD software v13 will have great implications for GM cars. They might, or they might not.
Also, the reason Deepseek is more efficient is the mathematics behind the model, that they found a way to boosting their signals by eliminating massive amounts of noise in the data it was trained on. Unless you mean that Deepseek will publish all their heuristics, like Google research published their work on transformers.
Now, for its reasoning Deepseek R1 actually allocates more tokens at inference than their competitors. For instance on math problems (AIME) by increasing the amount of tokens used from 1000 to 100,000, the performance rose from 21% with 1000 tokens, to 66,7% with 100,000.
So the story of efficiency has many levels.
Damn you need to get the newest and most expensive roomba it’s actually amazing. The one with the square end 😂
Elon once said there was a small chance AI could destroy the world. I feel like the chance has been getting less small.
I don't feel that way. I know way too many people who are out of work already, due to AI. If Musk succeeds he will: 1. kill 5m driving jobs; 2. kill white-collar jobs; 3. kill blue collar or manual labor jobs.
