I believe the NHC forecast is a little conservative. Typically after a eyewall replacement cycle you get restrengthening and expansion of the tropical and hurricane force winds. This forecast suggests no restrengthening which would be highly unusual for a hurricane in a high temperature low shear environment. UPDATE: The eyewall replacement cycle is not far from completion now. The new larger eye is now clearly visible on infrared and the cloud tops which had warmed a bit have begun to cool again which is indicative of restrengthening. UPDATE #2: The eyewall replacement cycle is now nearly complete. Milton has wobbled a little north in the past two hours. Expect the new eye to clear out soon and for reintensification to begin. UPDATE #3: The new eye is now clearly visible on infrared so that means the Eyewall replacement cycle is essentially over.
They are also missing in every single projection, yet keep it landing on Tampa. Doesn’t make sense, unless they are trying to cause mass panic. I know folks who are staying out because they believe the forecast projections..idk
@@therealBocaStudios That's why there is a cone of uncertainty. Landfall is most likely somewhere near Tampa but the cone shows that landfall could potentially be as far south as Fort Myers.

I’m on the northern coast of SC and even tho the forecast says we’re “ok”… this bad boy is just SO big, the Gulf is SO hot… Please heed the evacuation orders yall. It’s too hairy down there now… and to add another ginormous storm… please yall just come here.
Tampa Bay could take a hint from Chatham County, Georgia. Chatham County turns I-16 into all lanes headed North. It looks like that would help Tampa Bay. After a massive traffic jam and no one could get out of Chatham County about 10 years ago. Chatham County and other Counties all the way to Macon Georgia has all lanes heading North.
They want it to hit Tampa so bad, but my money is on Sarasota to Ft. Myers. If it does swing up more, I think it'll hit as a weaker storm. This isn't to say not to take precautions, especially if you're near the coast, but have faith in the Indian burial grounds which have protected us for generations.

9 is actually a darker shade compared to 6, but I can see how some people find the colors hard to distinguish. They should've used a deeper color for 9.

Crazy. I live in Plant City, just west of Lakeland. This thing is going to go directly ontop of me. I've lived in Florida my entire life but I've never had a hurricane go directly over.
That's the fun part. My house *should* be able to take it. But it's not been truly tested in something like this. We have been sideswiped a few times, but never something that can be this strong. Or this direct.

Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 by time it made landfall and it killed 1,400 people. Like a meteorologist said this morning, don’t pay attention to “categories”. It’s about storm surge and winds. Do not bank on categories. 3 seems small but it is still deadly. Katrina is proof of that. There’s a Newsweek article comparing Katrina Milton and Helene. Google it.
This storm wasn’t even predicted to become a hurricane, then it was only going to be a weak storm. Them maybe a 3 off the coast and a 1 at landfall. One meteorologist said these small diameter storms are harder to forecast.
I go to Wesley Chapel 6 days per week. Most of the homes are newer and built of block and stucco. They should be fine. Who knows where power lines will be damaged? My family are all in Pinellas but we haven’t been asked to evacuate. Best wishes ❤

Covid caused people to work from home so many moved to warmer spots like Austin and Tampa from cold winter in Buffalo or Cleveland etc to Paradise in Tampa. Category 5 is an inadequate term for Milton with gusts of OVER 200 MPH! I’ve been in past hurricanes and the gusts do the damage - rip off roofs, topple trees, etc.

The front to the north is what is keeping the storm south... that's also where the wind shear is projected to lower the storm back to CAT 3 before landfall.

You're pretty inland and north so storm surge shouldn't be a big concern, but if you live in a low lying area be mindful of possible flooding rain. That county is in the direct path of the hurricane, but due to how far in you are, the winds should die down a bit. If you have any loose items on a porch or something you want to secure or get inside, make sure to do that. If you live in a stable house or building (not an RV or mobile home), staying inside should be just fine while you ride out the wind and rain. If you think you will need any more supplies for the next couple of days, it would be a good idea to get them tomorrow while there is still time left. Keep up to date with weather reports and stay safe.

Tampa Bay could take a hint from Chatham County, Georgia. Chatham County turns I-16 into all lanes headed North. It looks like that would help Tampa Bay. After a massive traffic jam and no one could get out of Chatham County about 10 years ago. Chatham County and other Counties all the way to Macon Georgia has all lanes heading North.

They want it to hit Tampa so bad, but my money is on Sarasota to Ft. Myers. If it does swing up more, I think it'll hit as a weaker storm. This isn't to say not to take precautions, especially if you're near the coast, but have faith in the Indian burial grounds which have protected us for generations.

Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 by time it made landfall and it killed 1,400 people. Like a meteorologist said this morning, don’t pay attention to “categories”. It’s about storm surge and winds. Do not bank on categories. 3 seems small but it is still deadly. Katrina is proof of that. There’s a Newsweek article comparing Katrina Milton and Helene. Google it.

I hope people prepare and survive as best they can and follow all precautions. I expect some damage here in inland FL too. Category 5 is an inadequate term for Milton with gusts of OVER 200 MPH! I’ve been in past hurricanes and the gusts do the damage - rip off roofs, topple trees, etc.

Why are our winds currently going north to south? Is this wind shire? Would think it would push the storm south.
The front to the north is what is keeping the storm south... that's also where the wind shear is projected to lower the storm back to CAT 3 before landfall.

You're pretty inland and north so storm surge shouldn't be a big concern, but if you live in a low lying area be mindful of possible flooding rain. That county is in the direct path of the hurricane, but due to how far in you are, the winds should die down a bit. If you have any loose items on a porch or something you want to secure or get inside, make sure to do that. If you live in a stable house or building (not an RV or mobile home), staying inside should be just fine while you ride out the wind and rain. If you think you will need any more supplies for the next couple of days, it would be a good idea to get them tomorrow while there is still time left. Keep up to date with weather reports and stay safe.
