100% agreed.I reside in the area where flagstone is the number real and multiple colors and varieties.I am very thankful for this video.I've been looking for something like this for too long!!! I have some experience Building some rock walls , but this is hugely helpful
I’ve read the comments. .. I think it’s a great job but I agree with the lime morta comments. The benefit of the lime mortar is that it is also sacrificial i.e. it is weaker than the stone and therefore any moisture that enters the joints affectively Lee Child time is the motor which can easily be replaced rather resulting in cracking stones which ultimately could result in the failure of the wall i’m not a builder but I’ve used both cement and lime water and working with lime all day it’s just as easy as long as the weather is not turning too cold so I’m surprised they didn’t use lime based mortar.
All opinion aside, great work. The castle surely was originally built over several years. There are obvious start/stops from previous artisans, And the boys here, did a fine job while leaving there own personality. If cost is no object, one can pick apart ANYONE'S work. But in reality, if one shows proper adherence to quality work, one then can look at this video as a look a fine craftsman doing there art. Fine job.
Try working for English heritage. ..fussy as funk. We use to have a fishing tackle box full of different mortar samples. ..I never knew their was so many different sands etc out their
hi really i want to show you my skills on stones i mean this job is not profesional hoo is working with stones have to be first a profesional handworker and second hopfoully i can show you some new job to look like 150 years ago .god bless you
Wow, beautiful! I so love nice masonry work. I'm going to be building stone walls for my home once its completed. I'm going with an old world look. Thanks!!
There's a genius to using natural, rough stone. It's probably more fun than just laying bricks, which I'm sure both these guys have done plenty of. My main experience with masonry/concrete has been dealing with sagging structures, where the footings are poor underneath something really heavy. Generally that meant taking a jackhammer to the durn thing and starting over.
Thank you for this thorough video. I build dry stone walls but am faced with having to build with mortar. I had so many questions, since wet is a whole different animal. Thanks again. Best video I’ve found thus far because you’re matching the historic.
Matches well save for the adjoining wall where there is a definite deliniation (9:51) between old and new. It would have been best to take out some of the older stones in order to feather the joint and not have one continuous line joint.
Planning to have our 7foot max height natural granite stone wall rebuilt in the next days. It will be holding back soil even higher than that. Its a 1971 wall but is now showing big vertical cracks. Do we need a cinder block wall behind it? How does drainage system work behind these mass walls? Thank you for any help!
As a young stone mason I still have 10 solid yrs of experience and it's hard for me to watch other stone masons because I know I could do better😂😂 y'all thinking the same damn thing too
What type of cement or mortar have they used? I am looking for the recipe for the mortar. Second question is how can a mason decide how much gaps should be between rocks?
I’m not a stone mason but a bricklayer. I’ve done some repair work with a mason and it didn’t take long after the angry mason told me off about building tombstones in the wall. And the capping wasn’t the nicest either. Joints are huge.
I was lucky enough to gain the experience and skills to work on a Class 1 heritage castle at Conwy , North Wales, Stone work has facinated me ever since, and I really want to start my own company, but lack the experience and knowlage, Ive always been a gamer who was driven by wanting to become rich (in the games) but never never been as ambitios in real life. In games, you ask and learn and once you do something once, You know how to do it :) Just IRL everyone wants people with 100 years experience :(
super gute Arbeit!
My son and I built a dry stack stone 3 foot wall 14 years ago next to my house. It's now covered in ferns and green moss, its absolutely beautiful.

My back hurts just watching them work while bent over. Much respect to the true craftsmen left in the world.
Wow - this is exactly what I came to UA-cam for. Excellent work, narration, and explained process.
Impressive. One of the best videos with a totally competent commentary over it.
Thank you and greetings from Portugal.

This is not great work. These are not artisans or craftsman. Just general builders having a go.
Beautiful work. Real craftsmanship.
I used to that for a living back in my younger days slaving for my uncles lol I kinda miss it! We build walls exactly like that
sounds good
There’s lots of castles around here where I live in Switzerland...the stone work is impressive. Woodwork as well.

I know this is a old comment but what would the proper footings look like if you're going for the old school natural vibe
@@Exalted- were'nt really old footings like from the medieval age made of stone?
Brother ❤i like 👍 this Casale, very beautiful construction...
thank you and have a great day 👍
A beautiful Castle, inspiration for my Land in Lagness, Pagham, West Sussex, England. To recreate something similar
Who’s building it for you ?
These guys make it look so easy

UNCLEDOUG SAYS NICE JOB GUYS !! LEARNED A BUNCH !!!

These 2 are real craftsmen and fast to.You can easily tell this when they make it look easy, which it isn't !

Good talented stone builders
I'm just learning, want to do that on my tiny house.
Great job! Looks fantastic. Love stone work....
Beautiful job.❤ an Art for sure!😊
Eso sí que es arte, saludos desde españa

The mortar is still wet. It would match better after it dries.
great video, narration, and love the great work - well done guys! thank you for sharing!
Love this! Craftmanship at its best.
Really nice work
Marvelous👌 Good enough to stay pristine for centuries to come 👌👍👏👏
Magical hands that work hard to make magical structures.👍👍👏👏
I need to borrow these two brothers for a while. How long just depends on how long it takes them to build me my castle.
if you have the money I will fly them out to you
Kenny might want to invest in doing this
Beautiful work
I want to learn stonemasonry 👍

The two brothers build the castle :-)
The builder generation !
Work fit for a castle. 🏰
What type of cement or mortar have they used? I am looking for the recipe for the mortar.
Second question is how can a mason decide how much gaps should be between rocks?
The more the gap the easier it is to build! The mark of a great builder is small joints.
Super nice job !
Very good work
This is so interesting, and looks like a awesome job being done. Bit seasick from the camera though. Just set a tripod. Thanks for showing though 👌
Nice video! Thanks for uploading
no its not, he and these brothers should stick to 'landscaping' like cutting and raking grass becauze they suck at masonry
Very Beautiful CONSTRUCTION. Want more beautiful videos
They make it look easy!
Good job

Nice to see a person who recognizes the difference. It's not just putting stones randomly in wall there's a method for sure.
They had pretty good faced stone to start with,

The fly thing is hilarious!
amazing work. these guys rock!!
Nice job keep it up.

absolutely satisfying! is it more solid using concrete mix instead of mortar?
Okay did a very nice job and I appreciate getting the tips good job guys
I have built with natural stone, These guys are good
I could watch this all day. I think I missed my calling....
just build a wall in your back yard, just for fun and to try it out
@CarlTheLandscapeGuy I do work with rock whenever I can. It's a fun hobby. Wish I did it professionally.
It's not bad. I've done stone work in ireland. How it looks when finished depends a lot on the pointing.
the pointing?
@@alexjones2004 😂

what do you mean by double cross joints
vertical joints going through multiple layers
Im trying to get a 5 foot rock wall. Does it need vertical rebars to add support??
Please looking for help
Nice i would love to learn this skill
Thank you for the content great video
I appreciate the comment thank you
These guys did a fine job. Is there a reason why they didn't dampen the stones for adhesion?
Beautiful. Real craftsmen
Looks really nice but where will water go?
Lovely!
