🚩 PLAYLIST - First Scottish War of Independence • First War of Scottish ...
🚩 In Ayrshire, some 10 miles from Kilmarnock, near the village of Darvel, stands a lonely but imposing outcrop of rock, a remnant of Scotland's volcanic pre-history - Loudoun Hill. It was here on May 10th, 1307 that Robert the Bruce scored his first decisive victory over the forces of Edward I, the Plantagenet King of England, and began his delivery of Scotland's independence. Some would argue that in winning the war, Bruce not only freed his land from the occupying Southern forces, but unified the fractured country into the Scotland that we recognise today.

Pointing out bias in stories just tells people of the opposite persuation to not believe it. Also just who does the "factualty" checking part? And just what are their leanings?
Many Left leaning sights couch themselves as unbias in their reporting however heavily one sided they are slanted.
May I add that when a left issue is ever presented that isn't tied into an emotion rather than logic will be the day I ever take they left serious. But they are still scary af people with a little power and cannot be trusted with that power for the good of all the people.
Not blaming you in this. But it is akin to presenting climate facts from NASA thinking it's the truth(cause it's Science!)and not knowing anything about their 20 years of changing the historical temperature record and slowly erasing the past as we've understood it for the last 150 years and invented their own...cause "SCIENCE"!
You wanna get into history? Go back and listen to President Eisenhower's farewell address to the people in 1961. Pay particular attention to what he says AFTER he talks about the Military Industrial Complex.
There's your sign
It is said that after Loudon Hill, Longshanks, outraged at the defeat, challenged Bruce to what is now recognized as the first recorded rap battle in history. While we only have fragmentary documentation of the ensuing clash, it is considered one of the finest examples of a lyrical engagement to exist. Bruce's brilliant use of rhyme scheme and strategic deployment of biting insults literally caused Longshanks to perish. Whether or not this occured is still debated by historians, so it makes sense that History Marche didn't include it.
I would include the segment of Bruce's final verse that ended Edward's life, but not only would UA-cam block my comment, I would likely be arrested. Bruce's rhymes are so powerful that it takes years of training to read them without risk to life and limb.
HIistoryMarche.Hello, you can also place the Albanian subtitles, that is, the Albanian translation. Thank you.
@@Zogerpogger I'm familiar with some of those rather obscure passages. There's current thinking that the word interpreted that insinuates a rhyme battle is more of an anachronism. This would indicate that it was in fact a dance off in which the Bruce and Longshanks partook. This has given rise to many modern cultural phenomena. For example, the injuries Longshanks sustained during this dance off, partly due to poor footwork resulting in several falls, contributed to his death soon after. The style of dance off incorporated by the Bruce therefore became known as "breakdancing".
As you have pointed out, there were numerous biting insults hurled by the Bruce during the event, which apparently threw Longshanks off his game. This is considered to be the first instance of "sledging". This tactic has lived on into the modern era to be seen in sports like cricket. Further, some of the comments from UFC fighter Connor McGregor during his pre-fight epigrammatic exchanges are almost certainly straight out of the accounts from this historic engagement.
So I suppose, like in all things history, the events surrounding this incident are very nuanced. My thinking is that it was both a dance off and a rap battle, but there is quite a lot of contention about this amongst the scholars.
@@haroldgodwinson5043 I appreciate your position. I have great respect for the work done by the scholars of the dance-off school of thought. Their theses indeed influenced my understanding of this historical episode. I'm ultimately more of a rap-battle purist, but mostly with you on the idea that it was both a rap-battle and a dance-off. I only chose to share just the original rap-battle narrative due to the complexity of the dance-off theory.
At the end of the day I think we can agree that it was bold of Bruce to challenge a man with such sizeable legs. As we know Longshanks got his name via his practice of challenging rivals to proto dance offs. I like to think that Bruce knew this though and wanted to prove himself by defeating Edward at his own game. Ultimately this was a very influential decision, with many later leaders emplying Bruce's methods.
There are examples everywhere, with evidence existing that points to the use of Brucian dance/rap tactics by Oliver Cromwell, Napoleon Bonapart, and even Vladimir Lenin.
I'm surprised how accurate "The Outlaw King" was. Seems like it was based in history even more than Braveheart was
That's not a hard achievement to be fair

Did they had seks before ambush thingy?
Although technically that would be raid and not an ambush.
I love how there's subtitles for 40 different languages!!!! 🤩🤯🤯🤯
But still not subtitled for Scottish English 😛
@@TheMelbournelad That is a dialect, not a language
@@Almirante1741 didn’t get the joke clearly 😛

Finally someone’s covered Loudon Hill. Can you please keep the series going by covering other battles like Otterburn.
This is going to make my Friday even better
Happy Friday and wish you and yours a merry Christmas
It's going to be a great friday eve 🎉❣️
@@HistoryMarche to you and yours as well 🎄
Robert the Bruce with an excellent use of terrain/the area around him to counter his enemies strongpoints.
Very clever.
Im from, and currently am 20 mins from this place, the entire west coast and miles inland is just hills and hills and hills
I find it very cool that no matter how many defeats the Scots received, and Robert personally, he kept fighting.
Well ofc! He was on the defense and he knows how to use the Terrain. Plus, the English army outnumbers them massively!
Have to. Hes heavily outnumbered and outmached. Straight up conventional battle, the scots will lose.
He was fortunate Edward I died and was replaced by his pansy son with his own problems.
I worked in Darvel, the town where this hill is located just outside of, and practically passed this battle site on a daily basis.
Wow
"We fight not for glory, nor for wealth, nor honour but only and alone for freedom which no good man surrenders but with his life."
- Robert the Bruce, King of Scots
Every time a spider fell, it rose to rise again. To cast the web that would decide the fate of it's foe. England simply couldn't fully crush the fighting spirit of the Scots
I can't emphasize how much I love this channel. Thanks for putting this quality content out guys. Definitely will become a new supporter
Absolutely well produted, and very interesting to get to know these lesser known events before the battle of Bannockburn.
Thanks for sharing it wtih us.
Keep it up, boys! Thanks for the amazing content!
Finally, a proper amount of detail on how the high and lows of the Scottish independence wars.
Edward longshanks was in his later years in this campaign. If he was younger he wil be able to defeat scttish warriors. But Scottish warriors faced edward and English with their courage and determination. Brilliant doc. Historymarche always give us beyond hope. Animatons are getting better and better. One of my fav channels and my top 3 channels list in UA-cam. Highly recommended their docs. Huge fan of you from Sri Lanka ❤️.
Thanks for the video! Loudoun is often overshadowed by Bannockburn
Best narrator in this space. Thanks for all edutainment over the years.
amazing, the Loch in Irvine is where my primary school is located (the land was drained in the 1600s) and now I live in Glasgow 2 seconds away from the Battle of Langside!
Weird sense of pride seeing my hometown of Banff, make an appearance on a map 😆
I’ve been waiting for this for a couple weeks now! So grateful for HistoryMarche 🎉
I hope you guys will remake Robert's triumph at Bannockburn!

11:06 Wow, I did not know that about the use of a Dragon on a banner!
Thanks, I really appreciated learning that fact!!
Happy Christmas History Marche!

Class video - you should do one for the Battle of Old Byland or Myton On Swale.. it was the 700th anniversary of Old Byland this year and i’ve been to the area where the battlefield is.. genius tactics again by bruce 🏴
Was going to comment the same, the last major battle of Bruce and the young Edward the 3rd almost got captured
@@NaysayKen Stanhope Park where the Black Douglas was so close to catching him, Edward III apparently cried in deafeat.. although he made us pay a couple times after the pr*ck hahaha 🙄🤣
I kept seeing this channel as an ad on other animated history UA-cam channels like "The Armchair Historian". And I'd say that ad wasn't lying, this channel can make pretty good animated history videos as well, keep up the good work lads 👍
Loudon Hill is a 20 minute drive away from me, always an impressive site
SCOTLAND FOREVERR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice, polished docos, guys, love it.
Thanks so much!
Excellent historical subject & a wonderful introduction... (History Marche) always sharing fascinating historical subjects
Just watched Outlaw King recently. Enjoyable video, thanks!
I figured that it was a battle such as Loudoun Hill and not Bannockburn that was depicted in The Outlaw King.
شكراً لك على الجهد الجبار
On site you can see the 'funnel' in the land the English were guided towards and when there's been a drought the pit lines and holes dug for the cavalry can still be seen, it's cool 😎
Knowing where the News is coming from is as important as the News itself.
after watching Outlaw King, I had to look this battle up. amazing details!
An excellent account of the battle as well as the events leading to it.
My favourite history series on UA-cam 😃
Great video as always!
These events are also depicted in Outlaw King, but as with any historical movie there are some inaccuracies...still pretty cool to watch this having watched that.
Another awesome Video, Thank You for doing this! 😃

Just found this channel amazing
You are mostly right about The Red Comyn's assassination in Dumfries' Greyfriars Monastery(10th Feb.1306);as general tradition gives the fatal blow to Bruce's main retainer (Sir) Roger de Kirkpatrick of Closeburn, whose (in)famous reply was 'I Mak Sikker('I will make sure')' becames the heraldic motto of his descendants.👌👍
on the streets that's called the "Fo Sho" Double tap headshot.
I wonder if the sword was throat or heart at that moment?
Enjoyed this precursor and 'turning point' battle I had not known!
Was great in the movie Outlaw King❤
Liked and subscribed! When you said "Peace and Prosperity" my first thought was Kingdome Come Deliverance!

Scots fight against the greatest king in middle ages at england. They are brave . The Scottish pipes are playing . Wonderful ❤️🏴 long live for Scotland.🏴🏴 And they archived their independence against king Edward ii. 🔥🔥
Aaaannnddd.... a few years ago, they had a chance to gain independence again. They cowered and slunk back to UK. Their ancestors are no doubt disgusted at what they have become.
Good video!
Top class Video!
Hey historymarchee, loved the video today, sorry couldn't show up to the premiere
A nice Christmas gift would be a new Hannibal episode...

Edward Longshanks has been recognized for his contribution to the growth of Law and is one of the 23 bias reliefs displayed in the US House of representatives.
Wonderful as usual
It's so amazing seeing how the scots used the land terrain to their advantage! Despite being outnumbered heavily, they still got the victory!
Another great video! A great lead in to Bannockburn.
Ground News = not any less bias than anyone else, just claims to be.
Please continue the Hannibal series!
Thanks for the video 😉
Very interesting as per usual.
