The Craziest Buildings In China | YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT. 中国最疯狂的建筑 | 绝对让你难以置信
From a piano-shaped building to a Star Trek Enterprise replica, it's no secret China has become creative with its architecture. Here are 10 of the weirdest buildings you'll find scattered across the country. The Chinese government released a new set of urban planning guidelines for city planners on February 21, 2016, and one of its aims seems to be to quash the creativity of architects. These guidelines include an unexpected mandate: a ban on oddly shaped buildings.
China has long been home to some of the wildest buildings out there, including such creations as the “big pants” building (Beijing’s CCTV Headquarters), the Oriental Pearl Tower (a TV tower in Shanghai) and the USS Enterprise (headquarters for game developer NetDragon Websoft). Although these buildings may not be renovated or destroyed, architects will no longer be permitted to design unconventional structures.“These buildings do not have much value in terms of use and cost a lot to operate and maintain,” said Liu Shilin, head of the Institute of Urban Science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. “Quite a few were torn down soon after completion. The [new] policy is heading in a good direction.”New structures will be required to meet standards for functionality and environmental awareness in order to assist with overpopulation and emission issues. The government will be inspecting structures to enforce these standards over the next five years.
Improving Urban Planning and Infrastructure
The new set of guidelines is the result of the Central Urban Work Conference, held in December 2015 to address the issue of exploding city sizes. In order to tackle this looming problem, however, it needs to do quite a bit more than limit architectural creativity.

I remember speaking with an old client in 2008, he was a European architect who lived in Shanghai. He said China is an architect's dreamland, so much opportunity to try new designs and have fun building unique concepts. This video pays a tribute to that...really enjoyed that presentation Alex!

The variety in their modern architecture is incredible. These kind of exquisite designs were not simply possible years ago. The artistic renderings they achieved while maintaining sound strong building standards are amazing. The drone footage captured the beauty perfectly of these "Objects D'Art"! Well done Alex!

In the event that you and I should ever travel to China, let it come as no surprise that I will take you to the Wu Long, Chongqing, Flying Kiss Observation towers as our first stop. It is unbelievable to see buildings here, as presented in this video. Just goes to show that if you leave it to the Chinese, anything imaginable can be designed and constructed. That of course applies to their entire infrastructure within these mega cities. These amazing structures within China, have to make it the Disneyland for architects around the world. It is regretful that buildings as such will no longer be permitted to be constructed. Yet in all practicality and future outlook, overpopulation, city expansion, energy requirements within this climate changing world, must not be overlooked. I applaud the Chinese government to see the actions taken today, and how they will affect future generations. I want to say that from the very beginning, Reporterfy Media & Travel (Alex, Julija, and entire crew), you’ve been like a box of mixed chocolates. Each week you put another chocolate in the box, and although different from the previous chocolates, they have all tasted pretty damn good! I think we will do a few follow up videos on this one. We have over 100 more buildings to show. They will only restrict really crazy ones. I have told my wife that I will leave China only "raudoissa taikka laudoissa" (Finnish) (The approximate translation would be "in chains or a wooden box").

Love architecture but hopefully China makes more buildings with traditional Chinese/Asian aesthetics or European styles or European inspired Chinese architectural styles like Chinese Deco and Chinese Baroque.
