Being a beginner is where the most fun, wonder and motivation exist. Seeing the cogs and gears of tricks and as you guys said recognizing the coolness of the gimmicks is definitely such a mindblow and stretches the rabbit hole wide open! Well I've been fully tumbling down that hole and since I have already picked up the box of powers (which is as awesome as you guys say!) this list has now added a few more "toys" I wanna look into... lol! Keep it coming with cool fun stuff to get into!
My first ever trick was the orphic wallet. honestly I can't think of a better beginner trick. you learn quite a bit of mentalism and the card section by craig petty teaches you so much stuff.
Very well done, fellers. I'm at the age, I need to consider beginner tricks again, as your mobility gradually declines. I do suggest for one of your challenges Stealth Pen vs Lonnie Chevrie's FInger Through Bill. Both have a lot to offer. (Also, in Jay's new book, he basically says "the more you have to remember, the more likely you are to mess up". Something for beginners and old farts to keep in mind.)
We all highly recommend the Raven of course. REP by Zee Yan teaches a couple coin vanishes. Some cool vanishes are taught on Jeffrey Wang's live lecture teaches some cool vanishes as well.
Lol, yeah There were rumors that Penguin was just choosing our best magic to put on these lists. If that were the case then Nick might actually agree with the rankings. Nah, this is what happens when a whole bunch of people vote and you don't always agree with what they vote for.
Why don't you have the tricks to show us? Great editing by staff, but come on guys - you had 10 tricks to show in a 45 minute video. Seems a bit not unlazy to not have the 10 tricks to highlight for us. Otherwise, great job. Appreciate the content very much - it's very helpful.
When I was about 8 years old (63 years ago) my father had a friend who was a magician. He used to amaze me with his tricks. I think my dad was getting a little jealous that I was way more interested in the magician than I was in him, so they set me up. Johnny (the magi) told me that my father was a better magician than he ( Johnny) was. I was skeptical. He told me that my father not only had the ability to read my mind but to make me see things with my own eyes that weren't really there. My father sent me to his nightstand and told me to bring him the deck of blur Bicycle cards. That was pretty easy because they were the only cards in the drawer. My father told me he was going to riffle through the deck, and he asked me to tell him when to stop. I did. He instructed me to look at the card he had stopped at and memorize it, but to NOT TELL HIM WHAT THE CARD WAS. When I told him I had it memorized (it was the 8 of clubs...I remember it to this day), he finished rifling through the deck. Then my dad held the card to his forehead for about 7-8 seconds. His eyes were closed while he did that, and I thought he might have fallen asleep. Upon opening his eyes, he told me he knew what my coin was. My response? "No way." Then he had me stand VERY close to him. He said he was going to prove it to me. He had me watch him riffle the deck again, confirming it was a normal deck with cards that were all different. And for the finale, he told me to watch very carefully as he riffled the deck one last time. And when he did, all the cards in the deck were the 8 of clubs. I have to tell you, the effect was so powerful it frightened me. I was about 4 months away from turning 9. I hadn't told him which card I had picked. And yet he not only read my mind, but he also controlled my mind and made me see something that wasn't there. That was the day I decided to be a magician. And once I began learning to do magic, the Svengali deck has always been a part of my act. That cheap, old, simple deck is something I ALWAYS have with me when I leave the house.
Hi penguin! I do some mind reading stuff for a few years now but I didn't buy any thing yet except a few decks, what do you think are the top 10 or even 5 props I should buy to make my life easier? And in another list what are the top 5 best propless routines? Thanks in advance.
Hi! We have made a couple mentalism lists. This list is for props you can carry: ua-cam.com/video/lSF-67f5Sgk/v-deo.html This is for more professional stuff: ua-cam.com/video/SThhWB_0pzc/v-deo.html We have another list coming out shortly that covers more propless/impromptu mentalism
Have a question for you fellas, I've always loved magic since I was a kid and my grandad taught me what I now know is the French drop so coin magic is a love of mine then I saw a children's magician with the rabbit out of the hat thing but I hate card magic, so my question is are there any magicians who don't do card magic and what would be the top 10?
Yeah, there are a lot of magicians that don't do card magic. We have done a few non-card Top 10's but we haven't done many coin centered lists. That's a great idea!
I too am a magician who steadfastly avoids card magic. There are great card magicians and great card effects, and of course you can create very powerful and entertaining moments. But the whole genre is much more "magician" than "magic." If I could do real magic, I would never touch a deck of cards again in my life. It's become a crux/crutch of our art, but it really doesn't make any sense if you stop to think about it.
"The Moment" is too easy to see through. I don't think it would have ever fooled me. And I'm not sure it would fool any relative of mine. Which is why I haven't bought it.

Great video 👍👍
Is the hovering hairdo on the right available on Nicks head? The way it just floats up there, dosnt move. Is that for beginners?

A brilliant video guys. I loved the tricks, but am also looking for a great coin trick, where the coin totally disappear.
We all highly recommend the Raven of course. REP by Zee Yan teaches a couple coin vanishes. Some cool vanishes are taught on Jeffrey Wang's live lecture teaches some cool vanishes as well.
Scotch and Soda is a classic for beginners and can be really great
Nick's dubiousness about the lists crack me up

Thanks for sharing this awesome story. Big respect to your father, Johnny, and yourself!

Thumb tip and vanishing handkerchief
Those are great for sure👍
Do you guys actually not mind giving away the box of powers? Man I wish I could have ran into you when this happened.
two dollar window, where do you even get a $2.00 bill. Those bills are extinct like the dinosaurs
Believe it or not they're still in circulation. You can pick them up from most banks without an issue.
Doesn't B’wave require to do an elmsley count?
No, and Max advises against it.
