"Tiger(虎TORA) is her nickname. Her actual name is "大河TAIGA", which means "big river" and not the word for "tiger" . She's called "Tiger" due to the similarity in pronunciation and because of her personality." But, most of the time, this word is not used simply to mean '" big river". the term "TAIGA", in expressions like "TAIGA drama" or "TAIGA novel", used to refer to grand stories depicting a person's life or history. Basically, it is a name given to a man , it's not particularly rare as a male name.
Basically your stereotypical Tsundere is just so embarrassed with how they feel that they are in a constant state of panic, like they're being backed into a corner. Taiga is like that but is also a bit more of the traditional form of the Tsundere trope, where they're unfriendly toward strangers, but are super sweet to people they are close to.
Tsundere is from "tsun tsun" = JP onomatopoeia for feigned ignorance or sassiness, "dere dere" = JP onomatopoeia for purring and acting like a cat, think of a cat purring while rubbing their face on you. These archetypes more so hide their embarrassment and weak feelings through feigned aggression (most of the time they don't mean to hurt others but end up doing so anyway), and they are often portrayed to be the most sensitive character but hide it through a facade of being "strong".
Just a clarification: A ryuu is an Eastern Dragon: no wings, more worm-like. Think 🐉 or Shen-ron (Shen-long) from Dragon Ball Z instead of Game of Thrones or How to Train Your Dragon.
"Horimiya" is a must watch after this. And same as this it's a 'completed' story, but in 13 episodes...season 2 is a bunch of cut content from season 1.
4:52 That sly look 🥰 13:08 Ya don't get it yet? Both their friends are weird. They see their love interests as perfect; yet they're both weird IRL! 🤪 14:50 Their friends are actually smarter than they appear 😉 17:10 That's not how Japan works, Luke! 😂 18:58 He has extra rice cooked now 🥲 24:44 Friend-zoned! But happening to a girl? How often does that happen?!?! 😆 28:44 He called her by her first name and with no suffix (-san, -kun). In Japan, that signifies some closeness 😁 30:10 Luke is wrong! Luke's nickname in school was King Ding-a-Ling! 🤪
I think your kinda showing your ignorance with your Tiger and Dragon bit, in Chinese Folklore and Mythology Tiger and Dragon is are basically Yin and Yang rivals, its a common motif.
In Japanese, the words "suki" are used to express love and like. And at that time, Taiga believed it was love. Kitamura thought otherwise. Answering a love confession by saying you want to stay friends is a way of refusing to become lovers.
This might be a spoiler. At this point, it's impossible to understand on the first lap who is telling the truth and who truly understands their own or others' feelings, and of couse I think interpretations will also vary from person to person. However, with each passing lap, undoubtedly, the way their expressions and words are perceived in this episode will change.
Well tbf i understood pretty clearly what Kitamura meant on my first watch, the guy really nailed it. I don't think there is much to think about since the episode itself is telling you how the story will end. (ofc i only meant the general direction of the story, not the depth of every character)
@@deadline6149 Thanks for the reply. Maybe the way I said it was a misleading expression. My point is not the meaning but the intent or background. For example, regarding Kitamura, why did Kitamura say those things? Did he say it for her sake, or for Ryuji's, or for himself. Also did he say those things even he still likes her, or is there someone else he likes? and is his interpretation of her feelings correct or wrong? This can also be said about Minori and Taiga. The reason that taiga was happy when Ryuji called her name, and that she said she will end things with Kitamura. Why the desperate excuse she made to Minori about Ryuji. Also, the way Minori was upset when she saw them, the look on her face when she heard the rumors about them, The look on her face when she was talking to Ryuji about taiga. Her true feelings when she asked him to take care of Taiga. It is the intention and background of those various things. Is it for the other person, for themselves, or for the other reason. These are also related to the question of when they started to fall in love and and when they became aware of their feelings. Of course, these things are not clearly answered, so no matter how many times you see them, you can only guess.
Do you fully understand what a Tsundere is? I know you know kind of, but Taiga is like the god of tsunderes, she's what made loads of other animes have them aswell, she's not actually ungrateful, she may seem it and seem mean, but she does care and appreciates what he does, she just doesn't show it
Simply put tsundere is a character trope wherein someone tries to mask their true feeling by being agreesive. So they don’t necessarily have to be in love to be given that trope. Yandere’s on the other are character who obsess over the person they are in love with. Becoming so possessive of that person that they’d go as far as kidnapping or killing to keep you all to themselves 19:30 Taiga chewed out the entire class because they were scared of Ryuji because of his eyes. One of the few things Ryuji wants is to have a normal highschool life but because of the way he looks no one will get near him to learn who he truely is Taiga did that for him trying to give him that normal highschool life
Tsundere is set together with "Tsun" like being salty and "dere" from beeing sweet. Most Tsundere characters feel bad behaved, mean and aggresive to the outside, but are actually characters that do good for others, without their notice, just to embarassed to openly show their feelings and are insecure for beeing that mean. Minori is a "Genki-Girl" a Person that allways transports a happy and cheering character on her outside, the ymake jokes all the time, are supportive and in most shows good at sports. Most Genki Characters have in private a hard life and underlining Problems they overplay by beeing "Genki".
There seems to be two definitions of tsundere: The ones that play hard to get (to the extremes, sometimes), and the ones who just can't tolerate BS (Taiga fits here, it seems)
Luke, when one deals with a tsundere, they usually get a lot of tsun (the harsh side) before they get to the dere part (the sweet side). Don't worry about it, Luke, because there is no need for us to explain. *Toradora is one of the best teachers of the charms of tsunderes* 😊👍 We all learn in time and with hindsight just how great Taiga is 🥰
Keep in mind that Taiga is extreme, her violence is from when it was still more accepted compared to now. Sadly a lot of people straight up hate her. Ofc those kind of people did not understand sh*t about this anime or how good her character is, they just stop at the exagerated violence. As for Kitamura, he's probably the only one that understood the situation perfectly from the beginning. (though he was kind of an ass*ole with how he went about it)
It's pretty understandable to dislike a character who broke into a stranger's house and tried to beat them up because of a misunderstanding they created. And then be extremely ungrateful and call them a mongrel when that stranger cooks them food and cleans her house. I like her, but i don't fault people who don't like her.
@@en4833 you can dislike her at first or even at the end, but straight up hate her after going through all of the episodes? Nah that's insane. And i know people who think like that. Let's face it her violence on Ryuji is treated as comedy.
@@deadline6149 Her violence on Ryuji being treated as comedy by the show doesn't make it any better. However, I do agree that it is weird to hate her by the end of the show. But first impressions are very strong and hard to get rid of, so I don't fault people who don't like her.
@@en4833 well i guess we'll have to agree to disagree, why even watch a show till the end if you aren't flexible in the way you see characters? (not talking about you specifically). Comedic violence is a thing in japanese anime, i feel like people should understand that. I also feel like it's pretty sad to ignore all of her character development since she's the character that grew the most out of everyone. But i'm saying this as someone who (Spoiler for anyone reading this) knew Taiga x Ryuji was endgame since ep2 and thus i watched the show with that context.
26:50 Context: "Ryu" means Dragon, his name is Ryuji, and "Taiga" is the Japanese pronunciation of Tiger, but in translation it's "Tora" and the Japanese pronunciation of Dragon is "Doragon" hence "ToraDora"
The "tsu" sound is not used in English so it's hard for us to say. It's like sue but it has a tongue-placement T in front of it. The closest practice you can do is to say "cat soup" and leave your tongue where the T left it with "cat" when saying the "soup"
Holy shit I never realised! I mean. English isn't my first language and "tsu" does exict in mine so I was always confused bacause romanized japanese words with that sound are sometimes written as "tsu" and others as "sue". I thought it had something to do with Japanese pronunciation but you say it's an Endlish thing? Fascinating. (I just love foreign languages, ignore my rambling)
Ryuji said that thing about tiger and dragon because in Japanese folklore there are 4 legendary beasts, Tiger, Dragon, Turtle and Phoenix. Which is why sometimes when two characters have a staredown you see a combination of those four appearing in the background of the characters.
22:57 it was about what she said before she told she likes him (and how she did), so she more so confessed that she likes Ryuu, and that's how Kitamura interpret it, as type of confession when ur not ready to admit ur feelings
Tsundere basically means that they want to be nice to their loved one but since they don't know how to express properly they act cold and harsh. So basically you could say like Kaguya, acting cold but actually loves Miyuki and want to be nice.

We play with the full set of Polyhedrals.
Shipping Wars! GOOOO!

I'm going to start using this line in my daily life interactions.
Half of the things Miniorin does is based on some Japanese meme or manga/anime.
