The comments refered the species of the tree. It's a chojubai, japanese quince.

Unfortunate that the apex died off, lots of lost development. Fortunately it doesn't appear to have negatively altered the design of the tree. 100% guarantee you'll be able to grow it back slowly over the years to come.
