Fran Kitou,,, Cheer up is not the strokes. Although I do like the song and didn't think whoever it is singing did a bad job. Wish people would stop putting songs out claiming to be by famous bands.
Jules in 2000, when he was only like 20 years old: 🎶 I am a sentimental man 🎶 Jules in 2019: 🎶 I never think about those days everyone's talking about 🎶
That's the best part yeah, this song is good but it's missing something, but it's still the Strokes formula but it's missing that oomph. I feel like it's just because of certain instrument sounds missing.
This shit is deadass my favorite strokes song, ever. All time favorite. It sucks that its only a demo but damn yo its some solid shit I would forever love if they would perform it one day
Well I lived this life, I was just seventeen And this house was built on mama's broken dreams I put it all aside When she looked me in the eye Oh... [Verse 2] And arrest these teachers for what they have read And give all your money to the living dead Like a call girl in her prime Arriving just in time Oh.... [Chorus] I am a sentimental man I try to reach to God with just one hand Rejecting offers to be with you Oh, he does it too Get you by your side A new way to wave goodbye And I'm waiting... My lady! [Verse 3] And I'm redefining what they could not percieve Upon their big arrival and they cheat on three And he took them to his side And no they could not wait to hide [Chorus] I am a sentimental man I try to reach to God with just one hand Rejecting offers to be with you Oh, he does it too Keep you by your side A new way to say goodbye And I'm waiting... My lady! [Verse 4] And I lived this life, I was just seventeen And this house was built on mama's broken dreams I put it all aside And she looked me in the eye Was I gone for too long? Did I say something wrong, girl? Will I?
By the sound of their other demos, this one sounds like when the band finally put it all together and from that point started to really be the strokes from the "is this it" and "Room on Fire" era. This is one of their best songs
+1 to that assessment. Tho this didn’t make the album it really feels like the first track that makes the leap from demo band with promise to burgeoning rock legend.
sometimes... i wonder if they still remember these demos and think about or consider re-recording it or like release them officially. or i don’t know... id love to know the story behind their early demos
reading this when theyve released the singles vol 1 and sad that really only released a few demo songs and unreleased songs and the others were ones we already had !!
@@trash5694 I saw them live in 2004. His voice sounded a lot different back then. His vocals were weaker by their third album from the booze and drink. He sounds better than he did, but there was something really special about his voice back then.
this song is wonderful and used to be one of my favourites by them but it is pretty derivative, musically speaking. I'm glad they were able to find their own sound while also being influenced by the velvet underground etc. I love that they continue to grow and mature artistically
1- this is clearly the strokes. 2- NYC cops n when it started are different songs completely...Nyc cops was on the album released in England w the cover of the models ass n glove but in the American version when it started takes nyc cops spot and they changed the album cover to the blue geometric one.
+Kyle Ligamari The album cover was banned in the US, also they took NYC cops off the album because it was released in 2001 just after 9/11... Wasn't the best time to release an album putting down police that just had to deal with some severe shit going down. Was quite nice of them to take it off the album actually.
The UK cover wasn't banned in the US. It was Julian's decision to change the cover. He found this image of spiraling trajectories of subatomic particle collisions (not the Big Bang -- would love to see a photo of that, ha) and decided to make the change. At least that's his story.
LeavingIt Blank there's a lot of information suggesting that it was banned, I prefer the US cover anyway, that's the vinyl version I bought purposely over the original cover. It doesn't have When It Started on it though. Perhaps I'm wrong and the information floating about is wrong, I'd like to believe Julian as I love him but got to remember he's not a god so until I see some better evidence I'm going to stick to my original view, if you can provide me some I may reconsider, but knowing my strokes love I'll do it myself. Thanks for the info mate, PS the new EP is AMAZING, going to buy on vinyl ASAP.
Solo digo que si llegaste hasta aquí es por qué de verdad te encanta está banda tanto como a mí y no te quedaste satisfecho con sus álbumes y quisiste más y por cierto si no has escuchado Hawaii escúchala es muy buena xD

I love the part where he sings " I am a sentimental man"

Jules in 2019:

The intro is CLASSIC Strokes, the sound they developed that's all their own. Still a good song, one of my favorite of their throwaways.
