I've never been afraid of telling people that I'm a fan of Yamcha, and I like Tien as well. Nor have I ever hesitated to defend his character from idiots spouting nonsense. So anyone who shares those feelings, gets my damn respect.
There’s no reason not to be a fan. Anyone loves an underdog story can’t pass on them. Toriyama ruined their potential. Goku was the main character but he generally stopped developing all characters who weren’t Saiyans after Namek.
One thing that pisses me off is Krillin is often called the strongest human, while Tien was genuinely stronger than Goku when they first met and Tien is always seen training somewhere off in the mountains while Krillin often slacks off. Yet somehow Krillin is the strongest human?
Yeah plus Tien both are always actively training. Tien literally trains all the time plus in Super he had his own Dojo which in the episode it appears the warriors (maybe do the bad writing to make Tien and look bad) are strong enough to push Tien to actually try so it's not like he didn't have strong people to train with.
Agreed, tien definiteky deserves more focus in his character, its a shame they kinds forget about him, he was set uo early as a strong competitor for goku
They both deserve way more respect especially tien the way he held off semi perfect cell is in my opinion one of the best moments in all of Dragon ball and since held off semi perfect cell for a time I 100% believe he would have killed imperfect cell he is by far my favorite character in all of dragonball
Tien should be the closest to the Saiyans among the humans in power in base, why he's leagues below them is beyond me the man has never stopped improving himself

By the CELL games... each one of them can actually kill 3rd form of Namek Friezza - the ALIEN Head form - or beat with less ease - less ease than Goku - non 100 percent 4th form of Friezza. - is not even hard though, just a matter of comparing official power levels from good sources -
One thing I have to disagree with in the video is the idea of "pathetic human growth potential". In my reading of Dragonball (when I watched/read it ) humans had a much higher growth potential than the Saiyans did. Evident by the fact that any training Goku did, he came out so powerful that everyone was in awe...when the human characters did the same training, they wound up two to three times stronger than Goku. Of course by then, Goku was already on to the next big power up, so it wasn't regarded as much. And then came the broken Super Saiyan transformations... I believe the human characters could still be relevant in the story, even if they follow the "power level is everything" rule. Without even needing to add any new fan-wank BS, the tools are present in Dragonball that the human characters could have Super Saiyan level powers if someone would just ask 'what if this character learned this technique, or went through that training regimen'? Too bad we're passed this. For the writers and the majority of fans, it's "pure-blood Saiyans or GTFO". Edit- and for Yamucha specifically, when did he become known as a 'womanizer'? From what I saw, Bulma was the one with the wandering eye. Before we even get to Vegeta, you can just ask Zarbon and General Blue.
I think the Womanizer thing literally came from fanon and fics where they had to make BulmaxVegata 'the right choice' by making up reasons Yamcha was a worse boyfriend than *Vegeta*
The thing is, I’m base form, goku usually gets his ass kicked and has never once held up against people like krillin in super, if humans could access 40,000x power multiplier BS, goku wouldn’t be that special

(Multipliers presumably in the thousands for the last 2) Even then Toppo *in base* was keeping up with Blue Vegeta. If the Humans got their hands on Kaioken/Ultimate/Or a God Form of their own they'd be as strong as the Saiyans.
Out of all the cast in Dragon ball, I have always loved Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo and Vegeta. They all were very strong, stoic and developed characters in their own right, even Gohan got the "Saiyan irrelevance" over time. I agree, they're rolemodels. Of all the Earthlings, even with Krillin included, they are the strongest and stood up to impossible odds. IIRC as you put in the Power levels video in the android saga; Tien knew he couldn't compare to Cell, perfect, semi-perfect or not. Yet he still managed to push his body beyond boundaries to Ki-ko-ho him straight into a massive crater. Not to mention, Power levels and Ki are only good so much as a baseline for matchups. Ain't dissagreeing with the numbers, but as the whole Ginyu bodyswapping shit was, power is only as good as the knowledge to use it. It still hurts knowing the power creep in the series. SO many good characters lost cause they're just not 'powerful' enough anymore. At least Tien Shinhan got a dojo to carry on his skills. And Yamcha's martial artisty is not to scoff at, hell I loved seeing him in be a great rush-down fighter in Fighter Z
I think Akira just needs to develope weaker villians for these guys to face off with when the saiyans go do their God-like battles. The TOP had instances of this but I wanted more drawn out 1v1s.
@@shuheihisagi6689 I somewhat agree w/ your point there. I think the Moro arc did the non-Saiyan characters more justice, if we're counting the manga, since no one was left out. Not just Yamcha, but even Chiaotzu showed up & got a moment to shine. The ToP, even in the anime, barely made anyone other than Roshi, #17 and #18 look good. That was always my complaint w/ the Z movies as well, only two of them featured the other Z-fighters, and neither of those movies did anything noteworthy to make them look good. I just don't think Toriyama cares about those characters, because he knows most of his fan base doesn't either.
Tien has always been one of my favorite characters in Dragon Ball. He was a complete badass in his first appearance early in the series, and his sacrificial efforts against Nappa and Semi-Perfect Cell earned so much respect from me.
And people said they literally don't want his neo tri beam as an LF in DB legends, when it was one of tien's defining scenes and one of the best scenes of the cell saga, minus the father son kamehameha, final flash, and gohan turning ssj2.
I always thought a little subtle detail in the series was that Vegeta actually really respected Tien. it wasnt obvious but he never really gave Tien sh*t like he did with the other humans (apart from that one time he called him a loser when they were waiting for mecha freeza). But think about it Vegeta is a true warrior who can relate to Tien because he's also a warrior and unlike the other humans Tienshinhan never stopped training. Even when the other humans gave up because the power gaps got ridiculous, Tien always kept training trying to improve and get stronger. He knew he would never catch Goku ever again but he kept going because he wanted to be the best he could he. I think Vegeta really respected that.
He might have even respected how he went out fighting Nappa. The beam he shot was so powerful that if Nappa didn’t block/dodge it woulda done serious/decent damage

It's disappointing how much the humans are sidelined as DB progresses. There could have been plenty of interesting things done to keep them up with the power creep. This is, yet again, another look into Toriyama's "seat-of-his-pants" writing, and not giving a crap about any past characters.

When I saw Yamcha back on his gi during the Moro saga, I threw my hands screaming. For the first time in twenty years since the cell games, the gang was back again to defend earth. As I expected, he took a minor role. Defeated some nobodies and he and Tien needed Goku to save them. I just don't get why can't the character do something without Goku or Vegeta. Geez, every single time, man. Let them win against someone stronger by using their abilities. It doesn't change ANYTHING in the long run to have them defeat a strong side character at the other side of the planet. But no, let Goku solve it. Let's not waste two seconds doing something cool for the fans.
Its just the rule of shonen you start with a full roster of interesting characters but only 2 will end up being relevant in anyway. Take My Hero Academia with that colorful cast of heroes, we all know at the end of the day Deku is always gonna save the day along with Bakugo and Todoroki.
Well u can't really call them nobodies. At that stage of the series Moros henchmen are easily as strong as kid Buu or any of the Buu forms, thus Yamcha them are ridiculously strong at this point, I believe Yamcha to be above all except Piccolo and the Saiyans, mainly bcuz he trained with Gohan and Piccolo to prepare for Moros invasion. Nobody else trained wit them, and he went toe to toe with Zayougi although he was going to lose in the end he didn't take an official loss and added 3 solid wins to his record against 3 of Moros henchmen. So technically in super he 3-0 and even after the fight against Zayougi he only took 1 good Crack as far as the comic showed, and he wasn't exhausted or limping around hurt, he was still in fighting condition. Yamcha will have bigger roles in being a protector of earth along with Piccolo Krillin Tien and Roshi I am sure, but I am sure he will be more of a leader of the Earths protectors down the road ,while Goku and Vegeta will be resorted more to being protectors of the universe due to their God strength.

I'm glad if anything, the anime portrayed Yamcha and Tien being together during battles, but the manga never really depicted this. They never canoncally fought a battle with each other until the Moro saga.

Tien and Yamcha both definitely needed a video like this to support their fan base. I love their bro code and the mutual respect between them, it’s too bad that TOEI treat them as afterthoughts. I always viewed them differently than the other members of the Z-gang: I enjoyed watching their training on King Kai’s planet and their fight with the Ginyu Force. That’s a pretty moving backstory with Tien. I wonder what Yamaha’s upbringing was like🤔.
You should read the Dragonball Z Elsewhere manga. It gives a much broader back story about Yahmcha and how he trained at the Wolf school before the turtle school. And it shows him after the andriod saga all powered up strong enogh to figh Goku in Super Sayian mode.

I think it would have been incredible to see Tien and Yamcha fused I always inmaginged they would look like a bigger Hei from Yu YU Hakusho and when they used a new ultimate attack the third eye would open up to show how powerful the move is. It's really sad that humans, probably aside from Roshi, got absolutely no respect in Super (for the sake of this no I'm not counting the cyborgs). I mean, would it have been so hard for them to get Tien and Krillin moments like Roshi's in the tournament? I'm not even saying that it has to match the impact of Roshi's moment, but at least give them something. I really would have loved to see a world were Tien, Krillin, Yamacha, and even Chiaotzu stay relevant through becoming cyborgs, or having ultimate potential unlocked from the Old Kai. Just. Anything.
I do think it was interesting how much love Roshi got because of his Techniques, but he couldn't compete with Tien in Dragonball. Also, tribeam is supposed to be stronger than kamehameha
It's weird as Roshi stopped being relevant in Dragonball, and couldnt do anything in Z so it makes beyond ZERO since that in Super he would all of a sudden be stronger than every human in the series especially Tien who has never stopped training

Same here, Yamcha has always been my top 2 favorite character from the entire series, and I've never and never will abandon him. I play him in the games and even named my created character in Xenoverse after him.

A lot of people give Yamcha flack because he lost to a Saibaman, which confuses me since at that point in the story, pretty much any Z Fighter except for maybe Piccolo and Goku probably would've died to them if caught off guard like Yamcha was. Sure, Yamcha probably still would've died even if he had his guard up, but that same rule should/would likely apply to the rest of the Z-Fighters.
People forget that he went up against that Saibaman in order to look out for Krillin. He could sense something was up, and knew that if the worst happened, Krillin wouldn't be able to be wished back to life (they didn't know about Namek at the time). So had it not been for Yamcha, that could've easily been Krillin in that crater. H literally fought to protect his friend and defend the planet, and people mock him for it. If it were ANY other fan base, he'd be celebrated. Tells you all you need to know about the fandom.
Exactly, they were all comparable to Raditz in battle power, so that criticism doesn't make sense. It makes even less sense, given the later scene where Gohan angrily fires a ki blast at Nappa after Piccolo's death and Nappa's hand is stinging (supposedly due to how close it comes to Nappa's battle power), even though the difference in power between Nappa and that ki blast is apparently greater than the difference in power between Yamcha and the Saibamen he fights.

Honestly Tien and Yamcha should learn how to do the fusion dance in cannon as not only would they be more useful in combat but also come up with various different techniques like the Dodon Kamehameha, Wolf Fang Volleyball Fist, and even the multi-form spirit ball among many others which would prove useful though I think Tien and Chiaotzu fusing would be even more dangerous but that's a topic for another day.

Technically they can do that in budokai 2. They even have a special level base on Neko Majin Z in the special japanese version, its the closest thing on how you could imagine it
And Poor Chiaotzu didn't even get a time to shine. He was a natural born fighter with an inate feeling for chi. He was the first to ever learn how to fly without needing any aid. Just imagine.

No. People will make fun of yamcha for dying to a saibamen, yet the level of power in that explosion means it could've killed gohan, krillin, or tien if they were caught in it, since all of them were relatively equal. Plus, goku and piccolo at the start would have been owned by a saibamen
You know, Yamcha growing so much stronger after training in the afterlife makes me wonder if maybe the problem isn't that Humans have insanely poor growth potential, but rather that Earth has no good teachers to train good fighters...

Hey guys do you also think that Tien's character should have a mini arc in which he discovers his alien origins (the third eye and multiarm technique) and gets a power up in terms of not just power levels, but in specialized techniques, story and character development. Pherhaps he could get some powers similiar to Asura from Arura's wrath or something of the sort. Would have been a cool arc to see imo.
I always love tien advice to gohan on lookout telling him hes the man of the house now and to take care of his mom and also giving trunks motivation to defeat androids when he returns home, tien is a role model💯
The first time i ever was introduced to the world of Dragon Ball was trough the og manga. I think it was manga 29 that was my first experience with DB. Yamcha was my very first favorite character and that hasn't changed since then. He shares the #1 fav spot with Vegito in my book. 😀
Tien is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, dude never backs down no matter the circumstance and his English voice actor gives some of the best performances in DB

You mentioned Yamcha beating Reccome, but you didn;t mention splitting his power with the multiform, THEN beating Jeice and Burder with little difficulty. That means that his clones were each like 1.5x their power. So he was easily 3x as strong as the ginyu force, some of the strongest in the galaxy.
I mean, it's all filler anyway and I doubt Toei cared when writing it. It makes 0 sense that Yamcha could grow that much in 2 months, when Goku spent 6 months there and got like 1/4th of the gains. Same goes for Yamcha beating Olibu, although you can somewhat rationalise that if you want to pretend Yamcha was training non-stop for the last 7 years, although that's very unlikely.
I got into DB when I was 18, and Tien/Yamcha/ Piccolo motivated me to workout. I've lost 140 pounds now, but training is something I do everyday because of these gigachads. Btw that Yamcha manga from a few years back made me hard.
Toriyama had little respect for Yamcha to begin with. He lost all his tournament fights in the quarter finals. At least he managed to lose the first two times with grace, but the way God thrashed him was pure comedy with Yamcha as the butt. He was a mostly comedic character even before that - think of his chronic shyness and wanting to wish for a girlfriend from the Dragon Balls.... Yet despite that (or maybe because of it), he's still my favorite character!
While I agree w/ your first point about Toriyama having little respect for Yamcha, I have to question the rest of your argument. For one, you make it sound as if it's a negative that God beat him in the 23rd tournament. The guy was only the 3rd strongest character in the entire series at that point. Plus, Yamcha did catch him off guard & nail him in the jaw with a Sokidan, forcing the guy to get serious. And two, why do so many fans use the "he was mostly comedic" argument as justification for him to be shat on? Plenty of characters in the series were comedic (Goku's ignorance of not knowing the difference between boys & girls or thinking marriage was a type of food. Roshi being the typical perverted old man), yet they still managed to be strong as well. In fact, we've seen it in other series as well (Might Guy/Rock Lee in Naruto, Kazuma Kuwabara in Yu Yu Hakusho), the list goes on. So someone being a comedic character is no excuse to justify them being poorly written or incapable of becoming strong.

@@bruhford3954 Yes he did. That's honestly my biggest issue with a lot of his detractors, they never judge from a purely objective and fair stance. They either tend to conflate him with other characters (making him out to be some coward like Yajirobe or Oolong), or they use traits of his to criticize him that they don't apply to other characters (calling him arrogant while glorifying Vegeta). The accusation that he didn't take any fights seriously is the biggest load of garbage I've ever heard anyone make against his character.

7:04 that is another good point to remember at that point in DBZ during Frieza saga Recoome who destroyed Vegeta, Krillian and Gohan. Lost to Yamcha quickly and the fact that Tien and the other took out the rest with ease when Vegeta had trouble with them.

Yamcha was only cool during og dragon ball. Tien is one of my favorites and was stronger than Goku once. He should be more relevant than krillin. Dbz needs better writing that utilizes all their characters more like yuyu Hakusho. They all took turns fighting and each character was still relevant in the end.

I wish Yamcha got converted to an cyborg/human. I think he would have wrecked 17 and 18 since he was a real fighter PRIOR to having the process. He had so much to give us and the writing just never got on board.
Imagine an arc where a weak magical villain creates a spell where all those in his range have their powers inverted. The strong become weak and the weak become strong. So now yamcha, tien, and yajirobi are the heavy-hitters versus the now powerful magician!
I was hoping Yamcha and Tien would have their moment fighting the Frieza soldiers. When he was left out of the ToP I thought for sure they would have a mini arc in between showing Yamcha defend Earth. Lots of missed opportunities.
exactly. The saibamen's level of power in the self destruct would have killed them or severely wounded piccolo. Plus, Yamcha even volunteered to go first fighting the saibamen and testing their power for his friends to see how strong they are, and told krillin that he didn't have the option of coming back to life at the time with the dragon balls if he died once more.
I fuckin love Yamcha and respect Tien. They really deserved to be good rivals, pushing each other to their limits, learning new techniques and ways to fight without all that Super Saiyan strength.
Tien and Piccolo never really became full on joke characters in dbz. Their relevance became limited, but they were never really comic relief characters. Also even though Tien was much weaker than Cell they still put in the scene of him slowing down Cell. Krillin and Yamcha absolutely did become comic relief characters though lol.
Basically Yamcha saved Krillin of the saibaman. Krillin said he was going to fight first but Yamcha stepped up and said he was already revived with the dragon balls and if something went wrong he was not coming back again. So if Yamcha never said that, I guess Krillin would have probably died to that saibaman the same way as Yamcha did.
yamcha was selfless and brave. He only lost to the saibamen due to arrogance, but that's his character. Plus, he along with the other humans, kicked the ginyu force's ass, who, beat up a vegeta after his zenkai boost from fighting zarbon and killing him, and both gohan and krillin after they unlocked their potential by guru
@@diamonshade7484 That was a result of arrogance on yamcha's part. But lets say simply any other character was grappled by the saibamen, they would have been killed instantly as well. It's was just yamcha's arrogance and not keeping his guard up that got him killed. For the most part, the yamcha beat one of them with low or mid difficulty.
Its weird Dragon Ball as a whole never tried exploring Tien's Tricyclops heritage. I'd also love to see him and the human Z fighters train on Yardrat in Super like how Vegeta did in the manga, to become stronger and unlock more of their hidden potential. Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha and Krillin deserve way more respect than they get and I hope they get a redemption arc like how Piccolo and Gohan did in the latest DBS movie.
Ten-shin-han is one of my favorite characters of the franchise. His fight with goku in the finals of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai was amazing, and had lots of surprising character growth that really feels missed in modern dragon ball.
I think Yamcha in the android saga was as strong as Goku before going to namek, because androids mistook him as Goku, and they had information about Goku before he went to namek.

So if I might ask, was there ever anything more to Yamcha's Spirit Ball than just being akin to a remote-controlled ki blast? It was one of the most interesting ki techniques in the entire series to me, and one that could have easily been refined much more and better than just "bigger and boomier". Like if he practiced creating it with greater speed and ease, or refined his control over it, such as only needing to use his fingertips to manipulate it, which could also free up his own mobility. Then from there he could work on doing something like using two simultaneously--one controlled by each hand. Imagine an on-the-go Yamcha flanked by two Spirit Balls, perhaps even using them to set up Wolf Fang Fist strikes to devastating effect. The similarities to the Spirit Bomb also make me really curious about what more it might or could have had to it. Maybe Yamcha, for all his penchant for creative techniques like the Wolf Fang Fist, somehow managed to come close to creating something related to, or exactly the same as, King Kai's Spirit Bomb entirely on his own. (And if I'm forgetting something because it's been *so damn long ago* I'm very sorry for my ignorance.) I'm guessing part of the reason you didn't go into it in depth is due to a lack of material on it, which I can understand. It's also entirely likely that I'm giving it a little too much hype. At least you gave Tiencha props, because hell yes I wish that would become canon someday. Thank you, Budokai 2. Also damn, just realized how much Tien looks like a jacked-up Saitama. Though I like the idea that Saitama is another universe's version of Tien.
Yamcha genuinely deserves some kind of redemption arc, he should have been a part of the ToP, rather than just further humiliate him with the baseball episode, any way you split it, he's still one of the top 10 strongest earthlings, and he never backed down or ran away from a battle, even the ones where he knew he had no chance, like against the androids. I mean, he battered Recoome in the afterlife
Man, I this is a fantastic compilation, Tenshinhan is my favorite character for all the reasons listed, he has determination, honor, courage, and his physique is literally PEAK. He's stood up and put his life on the line against Cell, Buu, AND Beerus with no hesitation, he knows he isn't on the level of most of his other allies but he joins in anyways to lend support, that's inspiring. Shame Ten has no past or future, he could have had more depth with Launch and explore his brotherly bond more with Chiaotzu, its insane how movie henchmen have more backstory and lore than the main humans of DB. Ten just trains and gets crapped on at every turn, to make Roshi and Gohan look good, Roshi beating him was absolutely ridiculous, especially since he passed the torch to him and beyond after beating Roshi, that secret training crap was such an asspull. And Gohan and Krillin barely train, yet can manage to outshine Tenshinhan, all because Gohan has BS Saiyan genes and Krillin is the best friend of the main character, Krillin even stole Ten's move, the former has barely earned any of his power and fighting skill, within two training sessions with Piccolo, suddenly Gohan becomes a beast again. In the end, the poor treatment of Ten is plain as day, he's even been forgetten in group shots before. Also I still think is bull how he never tried any of his varies techniques against Nappa. As for Yamcha, I always enjoyed the character, plenty of bad and dumb things happen to him which earned his reputation as a joke, his character has been assassinated despite having REAL potential. It also bugged me how people justify hating him just because he lost a fight, a fight turned meme that would garner even MERCHANDISE of his iconic death pose. The writers in Super definitely embrace the meme too much, the characters all sorta have this "Ha...Ha...That's our Yamcha!" attitude, when they never treated him like that before. His side plot in the TOP was just sad, unfunny, and didn't pay off, on top of living in a shitty apartment with cracks on the walls. Yamcha has been flanderized as a cowardly womanizing sufer dude with false bravado. That's the fandom view of him, despite him being an extremely great friend, supporter and teammate, he took Krillin's place to battle the Saibaman out of concern since Krillin already died once. Shame his dynamic with Krillin is outshine by Goke and Krillin's. Atleast we saw more of it in FighterZ. People just don't acknowledge any good qualities about the characters and its unfortunate that he is untapped potential, he was a badass, cool bandit with a cool signature move, cat sidekick, and a code of ethnics and noble aspirations like wanting to get married under his own power and not being into Chi Chi. His character treats as the plucky everyman and marriage schtick got passed onto Krillin.
Krillin *and Yamcha* have both trained their asses off. They just got demoralized after the Cell Saga with the Super Saiyan Bullshit making all their hard work irrelevant.
It's about time. This entire video made me happy. I recently asked twitter how far Tien could go and everyone said he loses to NARUTO. I've never seen that many people basically screaming that they've never watched Dragon Ball or Z. Tien has always been my favourite character and DBS made me extremely disappointed

Show me that never mattered that they weren't the strongest characters, nor given the most screen time. I genuinely liked these three because I found them all interesting. You know, I think that Dragon Ball needs a new series where it won't be power levels that matter, but there should also be strategies that should work to be able to weaken even opponents stronger than the fighters as long as the strategy has the opponent's guard down enough to where it would lead to the downfall of the villain

I've never been afraid of telling people that I'm a fan of Yamcha, and I like Tien as well. Nor have I ever hesitated to defend his character from idiots spouting nonsense. So anyone who shares those feelings, gets my damn respect.

There’s no reason not to be a fan. Anyone loves an underdog story can’t pass on them. Toriyama ruined their potential. Goku was the main character but he generally stopped developing all characters who weren’t Saiyans after Namek.

One thing that pisses me off is Krillin is often called the strongest human, while Tien was genuinely stronger than Goku when they first met and Tien is always seen training somewhere off in the mountains while Krillin often slacks off. Yet somehow Krillin is the strongest human?

Tien literally trains all the time plus in Super he had his own Dojo which in the episode it appears the warriors (maybe do the bad writing to make Tien and look bad) are strong enough to push Tien to actually try so it's not like he didn't have strong people to train with.

One thing I have to disagree with in the video is the idea of "pathetic human growth potential". In my reading of Dragonball (when I watched/read it ) humans had a much higher growth potential than the Saiyans did. Evident by the fact that any training Goku did, he came out so powerful that everyone was in awe...when the human characters did the same training, they wound up two to three times stronger than Goku. Of course by then, Goku was already on to the next big power up, so it wasn't regarded as much. And then came the broken Super Saiyan transformations...
I believe the human characters could still be relevant in the story, even if they follow the "power level is everything" rule. Without even needing to add any new fan-wank BS, the tools are present in Dragonball that the human characters could have Super Saiyan level powers if someone would just ask 'what if this character learned this technique, or went through that training regimen'? Too bad we're passed this. For the writers and the majority of fans, it's "pure-blood Saiyans or GTFO".
Edit- and for Yamucha specifically, when did he become known as a 'womanizer'? From what I saw, Bulma was the one with the wandering eye. Before we even get to Vegeta, you can just ask Zarbon and General Blue.

Out of all the cast in Dragon ball, I have always loved Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo and Vegeta. They all were very strong, stoic and developed characters in their own right, even Gohan got the "Saiyan irrelevance" over time. I agree, they're rolemodels. Of all the Earthlings, even with Krillin included, they are the strongest and stood up to impossible odds.
IIRC as you put in the Power levels video in the android saga; Tien knew he couldn't compare to Cell, perfect, semi-perfect or not. Yet he still managed to push his body beyond boundaries to Ki-ko-ho him straight into a massive crater. Not to mention, Power levels and Ki are only good so much as a baseline for matchups. Ain't dissagreeing with the numbers, but as the whole Ginyu bodyswapping shit was, power is only as good as the knowledge to use it.
It still hurts knowing the power creep in the series. SO many good characters lost cause they're just not 'powerful' enough anymore. At least Tien Shinhan got a dojo to carry on his skills. And Yamcha's martial artisty is not to scoff at, hell I loved seeing him in be a great rush-down fighter in Fighter Z
Yamcha did make his comeback in the DBS manga, where he took out three magically enhanced, super-powered galactic criminals with ease.
I think Akira just needs to develope weaker villians for these guys to face off with when the saiyans go do their God-like battles. The TOP had instances of this but I wanted more drawn out 1v1s.
@@shuheihisagi6689 I somewhat agree w/ your point there. I think the Moro arc did the non-Saiyan characters more justice, if we're counting the manga, since no one was left out. Not just Yamcha, but even Chiaotzu showed up & got a moment to shine. The ToP, even in the anime, barely made anyone other than Roshi, #17 and #18 look good. That was always my complaint w/ the Z movies as well, only two of them featured the other Z-fighters, and neither of those movies did anything noteworthy to make them look good. I just don't think Toriyama cares about those characters, because he knows most of his fan base doesn't either.

Tien has always been one of my favorite characters in Dragon Ball. He was a complete badass in his first appearance early in the series, and his sacrificial efforts against Nappa and Semi-Perfect Cell earned so much respect from me.
And people said they literally don't want his neo tri beam as an LF in DB legends, when it was one of tien's defining scenes and one of the best scenes of the cell saga, minus the father son kamehameha, final flash, and gohan turning ssj2.

I always thought a little subtle detail in the series was that Vegeta actually really respected Tien. it wasnt obvious but he never really gave Tien sh*t like he did with the other humans (apart from that one time he called him a loser when they were waiting for mecha freeza). But think about it Vegeta is a true warrior who can relate to Tien because he's also a warrior and unlike the other humans Tienshinhan never stopped training. Even when the other humans gave up because the power gaps got ridiculous, Tien always kept training trying to improve and get stronger. He knew he would never catch Goku ever again but he kept going because he wanted to be the best he could he. I think Vegeta really respected that.
He might have even respected how he went out fighting Nappa. The beam he shot was so powerful that if Nappa didn’t block/dodge it woulda done serious/decent damage

It's disappointing how much the humans are sidelined as DB progresses. There could have been plenty of interesting things done to keep them up with the power creep. This is, yet again, another look into Toriyama's "seat-of-his-pants" writing, and not giving a crap about any past characters.

When I saw Yamcha back on his gi during the Moro saga, I threw my hands screaming.
For the first time in twenty years since the cell games, the gang was back again to defend earth.
As I expected, he took a minor role. Defeated some nobodies and he and Tien needed Goku to save them.
I just don't get why can't the character do something without Goku or Vegeta. Geez, every single time, man.
Let them win against someone stronger by using their abilities. It doesn't change ANYTHING in the long run to have them defeat a strong side character at the other side of the planet. But no, let Goku solve it. Let's not waste two seconds doing something cool for the fans.
Its just the rule of shonen you start with a full roster of interesting characters but only 2 will end up being relevant in anyway. Take My Hero Academia with that colorful cast of heroes, we all know at the end of the day Deku is always gonna save the day along with Bakugo and Todoroki.
Well u can't really call them nobodies. At that stage of the series Moros henchmen are easily as strong as kid Buu or any of the Buu forms, thus Yamcha them are ridiculously strong at this point, I believe Yamcha to be above all except Piccolo and the Saiyans, mainly bcuz he trained with Gohan and Piccolo to prepare for Moros invasion. Nobody else trained wit them, and he went toe to toe with Zayougi although he was going to lose in the end he didn't take an official loss and added 3 solid wins to his record against 3 of Moros henchmen. So technically in super he 3-0 and even after the fight against Zayougi he only took 1 good Crack as far as the comic showed, and he wasn't exhausted or limping around hurt, he was still in fighting condition. Yamcha will have bigger roles in being a protector of earth along with Piccolo Krillin Tien and Roshi I am sure, but I am sure he will be more of a leader of the Earths protectors down the road ,while Goku and Vegeta will be resorted more to being protectors of the universe due to their God strength.

You should read the Dragonball Z Elsewhere manga. It gives a much broader back story about Yahmcha and how he trained at the Wolf school before the turtle school. And it shows him after the andriod saga all powered up strong enogh to figh Goku in Super Sayian mode.

It's really sad that humans, probably aside from Roshi, got absolutely no respect in Super (for the sake of this no I'm not counting the cyborgs). I mean, would it have been so hard for them to get Tien and Krillin moments like Roshi's in the tournament? I'm not even saying that it has to match the impact of Roshi's moment, but at least give them something. I really would have loved to see a world were Tien, Krillin, Yamacha, and even Chiaotzu stay relevant through becoming cyborgs, or having ultimate potential unlocked from the Old Kai. Just. Anything.

A lot of people give Yamcha flack because he lost to a Saibaman, which confuses me since at that point in the story, pretty much any Z Fighter except for maybe Piccolo and Goku probably would've died to them if caught off guard like Yamcha was. Sure, Yamcha probably still would've died even if he had his guard up, but that same rule should/would likely apply to the rest of the Z-Fighters.
People forget that he went up against that Saibaman in order to look out for Krillin. He could sense something was up, and knew that if the worst happened, Krillin wouldn't be able to be wished back to life (they didn't know about Namek at the time). So had it not been for Yamcha, that could've easily been Krillin in that crater. H literally fought to protect his friend and defend the planet, and people mock him for it. If it were ANY other fan base, he'd be celebrated. Tells you all you need to know about the fandom.
Exactly, they were all comparable to Raditz in battle power, so that criticism doesn't make sense. It makes even less sense, given the later scene where Gohan angrily fires a ki blast at Nappa after Piccolo's death and Nappa's hand is stinging (supposedly due to how close it comes to Nappa's battle power), even though the difference in power between Nappa and that ki blast is apparently greater than the difference in power between Yamcha and the Saibamen he fights.

Honestly Tien and Yamcha should learn how to do the fusion dance in cannon as not only would they be more useful in combat but also come up with various different techniques like the Dodon Kamehameha, Wolf Fang Volleyball Fist, and even the multi-form spirit ball among many others which would prove useful though I think Tien and Chiaotzu fusing would be even more dangerous but that's a topic for another day.
Unfortunately Tien and chiaozu can only fuse with the potara because of the rules of the metomorian technique
@@johnzahm193 What do you mean, they are pretty much the same height, have good affinity given they’ve been good friends and trained together under the same masters for years and while Tien is definitely stronger than yamcha, Tien could just suppress himself to match up to yamcha like kid trunks did with goten so they are more than capable of using the fusion dance.
Technically they can do that in budokai 2. They even have a special level base on Neko Majin Z in the special japanese version, its the closest thing on how you could imagine it

Hey guys do you also think that Tien's character should have a mini arc in which he discovers his alien origins (the third eye and multiarm technique) and gets a power up in terms of not just power levels, but in specialized techniques, story and character development. The first time i ever was introduced to the world of Dragon Ball was trough the og manga. I think it was manga 29 that was my first experience with DB. Yamcha was my very first favorite character and that hasn't changed since then. He shares the #1 fav spot with Vegito in my book. 😀
Tien is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, dude never backs down no matter the circumstance and his English voice actor gives some of the best performances in DB

You mentioned Yamcha beating Reccome, but you didn;t mention splitting his power with the multiform, THEN beating Jeice and Burder with little difficulty. That means that his clones were each like 1.5x their power. So he was easily 3x as strong as the ginyu force, some of the strongest in the galaxy.

It makes 0 sense that Yamcha could grow that much in 2 months, when Goku spent 6 months there and got like 1/4th of the gains.
Same goes for Yamcha beating Olibu, although you can somewhat rationalise that if you want to pretend Yamcha was training non-stop for the last 7 years, although that's very unlikely.

I got into DB when I was 18, and Tien/Yamcha/ Piccolo motivated me to workout. I've lost 140 pounds now, but training is something I do everyday because of these gigachads. Btw that Yamcha manga from a few years back made me hard.
Toriyama had little respect for Yamcha to begin with. He lost all his tournament fights in the quarter finals. At least he managed to lose the first two times with grace, but the way God thrashed him was pure comedy with Yamcha as the butt. He was a mostly comedic character even before that - think of his chronic shyness and wanting to wish for a girlfriend from the Dragon Balls.... Yet despite that (or maybe because of it), he's still my favorite character!
While I agree w/ your first point about Toriyama having little respect for Yamcha, I have to question the rest of your argument. For one, you make it sound as if it's a negative that God beat him in the 23rd tournament. The guy was only the 3rd strongest character in the entire series at that point. Plus, Yamcha did catch him off guard & nail him in the jaw with a Sokidan, forcing the guy to get serious. And two, why do so many fans use the "he was mostly comedic" argument as justification for him to be shat on? Plenty of characters in the series were comedic (Goku's ignorance of not knowing the difference between boys & girls or thinking marriage was a type of food. Roshi being the typical perverted old man), yet they still managed to be strong as well.
In fact, we've seen it in other series as well (Might Guy/Rock Lee in Naruto, Kazuma Kuwabara in Yu Yu Hakusho), the list goes on. So someone being a comedic character is no excuse to justify them being poorly written or incapable of becoming strong.

@@bruhford3954 Yes he did. That's honestly my biggest issue with a lot of his detractors, they never judge from a purely objective and fair stance. They either tend to conflate him with other characters (making him out to be some coward like Yajirobe or Oolong), or they use traits of his to criticize him that they don't apply to other characters (calling him arrogant while glorifying Vegeta). The accusation that he didn't take any fights seriously is the biggest load of garbage I've ever heard anyone make against his character.

7:04 that is another good point to remember at that point in DBZ during Frieza saga Recoome who destroyed Vegeta, Krillian and Gohan. Lost to Yamcha quickly and the fact that Tien and the other took out the rest with ease when Vegeta had trouble with them.

Yamcha was only cool during og dragon ball. Tien is one of my favorites and was stronger than Goku once. He should be more relevant than krillin. Dbz needs better writing that utilizes all their characters more like yuyu Hakusho. They all took turns fighting and each character was still relevant in the end.

I was hoping Yamcha and Tien would have their moment fighting the Frieza soldiers. When he was left out of the ToP I thought for sure they would have a mini arc in between showing Yamcha defend Earth. Lots of missed opportunities.
To be honest, tien, Gohan, killing and choizu (sorry for mispell) could have been kamakazied by an little green goblin
exactly. The saibamen's level of power in the self destruct would have killed them or severely wounded piccolo. Plus, Yamcha even volunteered to go first fighting the saibamen and testing their power for his friends to see how strong they are, and told krillin that he didn't have the option of coming back to life at the time with the dragon balls if he died once more.
I fuckin love Yamcha and respect Tien. They really deserved to be good rivals, pushing each other to their limits, learning new techniques and ways to fight without all that Super Saiyan strength.

Tien and Piccolo never really became full on joke characters in dbz. Their relevance became limited, but they were never really comic relief characters. Also even though Tien was much weaker than Cell they still put in the scene of him slowing down Cell. Krillin and Yamcha absolutely did become comic relief characters though lol.

Yammychammy is my anchor in DBFZ. Used to be my main but I like him as Anchor now. If someone gets through my point and mid, Yammy comin out to slap.
Basically Yamcha saved Krillin of the saibaman. Krillin said he was going to fight first but Yamcha stepped up and said he was already revived with the dragon balls and if something went wrong he was not coming back again. So if Yamcha never said that, I guess Krillin would have probably died to that saibaman the same way as Yamcha did.
yamcha was selfless and brave. He only lost to the saibamen due to arrogance, but that's his character. Plus, he along with the other humans, kicked the ginyu force's ass, who, beat up a vegeta after his zenkai boost from fighting zarbon and killing him, and both gohan and krillin after they unlocked their potential by guru

It's was just yamcha's arrogance and not keeping his guard up that got him killed. For the most part, the yamcha beat one of them with low or mid difficulty.

Its weird Dragon Ball as a whole never tried exploring Tien's Tricyclops heritage.
I'd also love to see him and the human Z fighters train on Yardrat in Super like how Vegeta did in the manga, to become stronger and unlock more of their hidden potential.
Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha and Krillin deserve way more respect than they get and I hope they get a redemption arc like how Piccolo and Gohan did in the latest DBS movie.
Ten-shin-han is one of my favorite characters of the franchise. His fight with goku in the finals of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai was amazing, and had lots of surprising character growth that really feels missed in modern dragon ball.

I think Yamcha in the android saga was as strong as Goku before going to namek, because androids mistook him as Goku, and they had information about Goku before he went to namek.

So if I might ask, was there ever anything more to Yamcha's Spirit Ball than just being akin to a remote-controlled ki blast? It was one of the most interesting ki techniques in the entire series to me, and one that could have easily been refined much more and better than just "bigger and boomier". Like if he practiced creating it with greater speed and ease, or refined his control over it, such as only needing to use his fingertips to manipulate it, which could also free up his own mobility. Then from there he could work on doing something like using two simultaneously--one controlled by each hand. Imagine an on-the-go Yamcha flanked by two Spirit Balls, perhaps even using them to set up Wolf Fang Fist strikes to devastating effect.
The similarities to the Spirit Bomb also make me really curious about what more it might or could have had to it. Maybe Yamcha, for all his penchant for creative techniques like the Wolf Fang Fist, somehow managed to come close to creating something related to, or exactly the same as, King Kai's Spirit Bomb entirely on his own.
(And if I'm forgetting something because it's been *so damn long ago* I'm very sorry for my ignorance.)
I'm guessing part of the reason you didn't go into it in depth is due to a lack of material on it, which I can understand. It's also entirely likely that I'm giving it a little too much hype. At least you gave Tiencha props, because hell yes I wish that would become canon someday. Thank you, Budokai 2.

Yamcha genuinely deserves some kind of redemption arc, he should have been a part of the ToP, rather than just further humiliate him with the baseball episode, any way you split it, he's still one of the top 10 strongest earthlings, and he never backed down or ran away from a battle, even the ones where he knew he had no chance, like against the androids. I mean, he battered Recoome in the afterlife

Man, I this is a fantastic compilation, Tenshinhan is my favorite character for all the reasons listed, he has determination, honor, courage, and his physique is literally PEAK. He's stood up and put his life on the line against Cell, Buu, AND Beerus with no hesitation, he knows he isn't on the level of most of his other allies but he joins in anyways to lend support, that's inspiring. Shame Ten has no past or future, he could have had more depth with Launch and explore his brotherly bond more with Chiaotzu, its insane how movie henchmen have more backstory and lore than the main humans of DB. Ten just trains and gets crapped on at every turn, to make Roshi and Gohan look good, Roshi beating him was absolutely ridiculous, especially since he passed the torch to him and beyond after beating Roshi, that secret training crap was such an asspull. And Gohan and Krillin barely train, yet can manage to outshine Tenshinhan, all because Gohan has BS Saiyan genes and Krillin is the best friend of the main character, Krillin even stole Ten's move, the former has barely earned any of his power and fighting skill, within two training sessions with Piccolo, suddenly Gohan becomes a beast again. In the end, the poor treatment of Ten is plain as day, he's even been forgetten in group shots before. Also I still think is bull how he never tried any of his varies techniques against Nappa.
As for Yamcha, I always enjoyed the character, plenty of bad and dumb things happen to him which earned his reputation as a joke, his character has been assassinated despite having REAL potential. It also bugged me how people justify hating him just because he lost a fight, a fight turned meme that would garner even MERCHANDISE of his iconic death pose. The writers in Super definitely embrace the meme too much, the characters all sorta have this "Ha...Ha...That's our Yamcha!" attitude, when they never treated him like that before. His side plot in the TOP was just sad, unfunny, and didn't pay off, on top of living in a shitty apartment with cracks on the walls. Yamcha has been flanderized as a cowardly womanizing sufer dude with false bravado. That's the fandom view of him, despite him being an extremely great friend, supporter and teammate, he took Krillin's place to battle the Saibaman out of concern since Krillin already died once. Shame his dynamic with Krillin is outshine by Goke and Krillin's. Atleast we saw more of it in FighterZ. People just don't acknowledge any good qualities about the characters and its unfortunate that he is untapped potential, he was a badass, cool bandit with a cool signature move, cat sidekick, and a code of ethnics and noble aspirations like wanting to get married under his own power and not being into Chi Chi. His character treats as the plucky everyman and marriage schtick got passed onto Krillin.

It's because fans ignore the meaning behind that moment. Instead of seeing as a heroic gesture from a guy stepping up to keep his friend, Krillin, from potentially dying, they only view it as a joke to ridicule him over.

You know, I think that Dragon Ball needs a new series where it won't be power levels that matter, but there should also be strategies that should work to be able to weaken even opponents stronger than the fighters as long as the strategy has the opponent's guard down enough to where it would lead to the downfall of the villain
