Wow, these videos aged beautifully, it’s almost like a time capsule. Thank you John for bringing these back!
"I'm glad I'm not a plant"
"Why's that?"
"Cause people would walk through me"
Gotta love those deep on-trail conversations man.
john you are going to make me drop out of high school with videos like these.
summer breaks are the perfect opportunity to make your own videos like these
John Zahorian yeah i’m trying but my parents won’t let me go solo so it’s kinda tough. i don’t know anyone irl that hikes as fast as me. ua-cam.com/video/4erXzf3D3iM/v-deo.html here’s my video. it’s really bad compared to you though
Im thinking about dropping college lol but that wouldnt be smart.
dont!! :-(
No plans on it aha. Going to take all of next summer to hike and travel :)
Wow! The scenery is breath taking
Hell yea! John, thank you for bringing these videos back. They are some of the best hiking videos on youtube, hands down. You're a beast!
By far the best outdoors video in all of UA-cam. Makes me wanna get out there so bad
thanks! (same)
Wow oh wow!!! Those goats are precious and those views!!! Great job showing us the beauty!!!! You’re beyond talented!!
Revisiting some your videos and some first time I've watched them. Great pictures and footage. Love you adventures and music selection set the mood. Found some new music from you videos I do have say Neemor has an epic stache!
Wow!!! How do you manage to top every video again and again? Amazing job!!!!!
I'm excited for this set of videos. I was born just west of the Rockies in BC and can't wait to hike the GDT someday.
YES! Thank you for sharing John!🎉
Only one word: Stunning!
this is some next level audio.
thanks! i really focused on capturing better audio this time around 👍
John. Love this video. The beauty of this area is jaw dropping and I’m sure much better in person! And the goats... they are my favorite! The looks they gave you were precious! 🐑. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing to see this beautiful piece of land so undeveloped towards tourism...seems like that is THE place to hike :) (even it was not even on the GDT)
yea it's the classic national park zoo along going to the sun road but the rest is relatively little traveled
What a beautiful slice of wilderness. I've never backpacked anywhere that rivaled Glacier. It' funny, my buddy and I jumped off the PCT in July, an excursion initially inspired by your videos. On our way home to South Dakota we stopped in Glacier and spent a week doing the same route up to Ellen Willis, past Reynolds, etc only a week after you were there. Anyways, your videos have definitely been a huge reason I've been inspired to get out and adventure. Thank you!
oh nice! awesome to hear. glacier is so good, that stretch there really holds a special place in my heart
OMG! The mountain goats, the mountains! I am having a really hard time sticking to my plans for next summer. Looking forward to the next video.
Absolutely stunning scenery, and amazing editing as well!
oh man
I've been saving this series to watch for the right time and I'm glad I did. Already ep. 0 has taken me to a very special place :) Happy Thanksgiving!
your edits get better and better... so much beauty!!!
had to pause the video a few times... so much to take in. amazing
Excited to see the GDT through your perspective. I like the camera work and editing
absolutely stunning
Another epic vid, thank you!
So inspired!!! Love the feel of the edit and shots! Thanks man! Keep inspiring!
Your videography and edits just keep getting better.
I feel the same way as Neemor about the brush on that Waterton Valley trail.
Love the adventures and videography. Well done John!
aha john great to see new videos again. Keep up the good work buddy
Thanks jawnzee for reuploading these vids :)))
What route did you take to approach GDT that went by Lake Ellen Wilson? My partner and I hiked through there, and over Gunsight Pass in a snowstorm, on our way down from Sperry Chalet (RIP) in mid Sep 2015 (just a minute after you were in GNP finishing the CDT, I guess). Then got stuck on the wrong side of a Going to the Sun Road Closure and had to get a special shuttle to take our wet ass selves 3 hours around the park to our car. One of the greatest days of my life (not even kidding). After binging all your vids, it makes me weirdly happy to discover that same spot was personally significant for you.
started at lake mcdonald, went to many glacier in a day via gunsight + piegan passes. ptarmigan tunnel was closed and ahern drift was sketchy so we went around the east side with some walkup permits from many glacier
Awesome!!!
Burg surfing? LOVE it!
What a great video you did ! Thank you
Love your photography style. Do you shoot wide open on your aperture all the time? Although it does seem like your camera has a hard time reacquiring focus sometimes. Really love the light, and the color of your videos also (do you slightly underexpose?). Keep on hiking and making videos!
ya i got an nd filter but really need to get an adjustable one because i so rarely wanted to bother taking it off but i liked being able to go wide open when i wanted to. but it ended up leaving me way more open most of the time than i wanted. add to that my camera having a real hard time focusing and ya i was pretty bummed with a lot of the results but have a good feel for what to do going forward. i always slightly underexpose in camera and then for this series have been adding some subtle orange+teal and contrast
Nice, I'll have to get there someday! Will there be any videos from your AZT adventure this past spring?
i'll probably use the footage for something at some point
I figured you had some footage of the fire you dealt with you would use. That flared up so fast. I'm hoping to get on the GET from AJ to Safford in two or three weeks.
GNP- my backyard. Heading up there tomorrow ✌️
JEALOUS
Wow what an amazing video, Love it!
Incredible
Looks like you got a walk up permit for Elizabeth Lake Foot on the night of July 3? I had an advanced reservation to camp there that night, but gave up my permit on July 2. If it was you that took my spot, I no longer feel so bad about cancelling my trip!
woah yea! that's wild. thanks!!!
I know some hikers that typically do not carry bear spray on the trail do in Yellowstone and Glacier. Did either of you carry anything for bear defense besides knowledge, experience, and practicing LNT principles while in Grizzly country?
John, have you given any thought into doing the CDT again someday? It would be cool to see you revisit the same locations that you traveled through your first time and also through glacier NP since you weren't able to finish the trail via that section.
could happen. not on my radar at the moment
wow...ty
Nice dab
Great video! I was wondering if you had info for the approach trail, like starting point and what trails you took. Thanks.
Hey John -- you continue to inspire. What's the name/artist of the song at 5:03?
optionstheband.bandcamp.com/track/conclusion
What do you do about river and wet crossings concerning footwear? I'm curious how this is tackled without getting blisters and keeping feet dry.
What do you used to edit your videos? They are so good!
thanks! i use fcpx but would use premiere if money wasn't an issue
Second pair of shoes on your pack?
My question too. Here's my guess. He has a pair of shoes that only have a little life in them when he starts the trail, decides that instead of worrying about trying to find his fave shoes in the great white north, and unwilling to bail on current shoes until they're truly cashed, Johnny decides to bite the UL bullet and carry the new spares until needed. That's all I got. Am I right?
pretty accurate. neemor and i were both packin some new shoes, wearin some fairly worn out shoes with
Here I thought you were going to throw them on your hands and break out into a four-legged trot! Stu's deductive reasoning seems to be a bit more on point than my own.
Nioooce video! and good thumbnail :p
Them views...
Hey what route is this thanks
whats the name of this trail ? :)
What's this sideways arm thing Neemor was doing?
dabbin
I guess I need to get with the times! lol
extra shoes?? im confused
i explained why in another comment somewhere. basically was the easiest/cheapest/safest option with going into canada. neemor carried a new pair too. ditched the old in the first major town and had enough life in the shoes to safely take me to the end.
ha, I see it now thanks for the response man. Your video rocks and it makes me so ready to get on this trail, it's been on my radar for some time now. Seeing this makes that approach trail a must too!
yea you can't just start at the glacier border and not spend some time there
16 more days until i hit the PCT!
