I'm in Southern California and have purple fountain grass in containers outside. They have a husky around them and look ugly should I remove that husk? It's green underneath and like better w/o it but idk if I'm harming it. This is my first time having these plants.

You can remove the dead foliage, it won't hurt them.

I believe you are asking about Vertigo Purple Fountain Grass. For where we are in Eastern Wa, it's an annual and would be removed in spring. If you are somewhere with warmer winters it would be either cut to the ground like other fountain grasses or remove the dead foliage if it's an evergreen where you live.
