My aunt was on Queen For A Day and won a washer. We were all thrilled for her.
Yes, machine made the job so much more comparable of a task than the wash board. She could put the laundry to wash and do something else.
My mom was Queen for a day and she got a washing machine, a milk cow, some baby chicks, and can't remember what else.
I am Catholic and growing up we had Kings day on January 6th every year my mom made a cake and put a little Monopoly type figure inside of it I think it was the crown or a king or something and whoever got the little figure was King. It didn't really mean anything everybody just clapped and treated you like you were a king for a few hours until bedtime lol.
That's Three Kings Day. Its when the 3 kings met baby Jesus and gave him the gifts. Also called Epiphany.
Whoever gets the piece of cake with the baby has to bring the cake next year!! 😁👊
Paula you are absolutely incredible!!! Your quarantine cooking videos are my absolute favorite show to watch on youtube. They are easy to follow, comforting, engaging, and the foods are OUT OF THIS World delicious! During quarantine I had missed all of our restaurants, including yours, and I needed something to make me have the drive to cook and you hit the nail on the head with the quarantine cooking. I have missed human interaction and man you make me feel like i'm sitting in your kitchen with you with your personal stories and you down to earth personality. Please keep it up because I am learning so much from you and about cooking and now the foods I bring to potlucks and family dinners are the best!
Paula!!!!! I just ate lunch and watched this video as I was eating, when I asked God to bless my food I also added “thank you God for Paula Deen!!!!” If it weren’t for you it’d just be another old boring lunch at my desk!! As it is, I have laughed and been thoroughly entertained!! Cracked me up when Michael said he got the baby last year and didn’t get anything for “king for a day”😂Thank you for continuing the videos!!!
Winning a washer or dryer would have been great. We had a wringer washer a clothes line and Bw tv.i left home in 82 and I was so tickled to get a color tv and a microwave.
I made my first King cake today and let me say wow! My family really loved it and it turned out delicious. I still can't believe I made this. Thank you for the recipe and history behind the tradition Paula!
The colors stand for the wisemen and their gifts is what I thought
I’m from Louisiana never had a king cake with raisins! Might be that they are here but I hate raisins so would have avoided any cake with raisins! This does look good but I would leave out raisins!
Good morning Mrs. Paula Deen have a blessed and prosperous day.
We watched queen for a day. My gramma tried to get on it.
Do I get extra points for eating king cake while I’m watching? Yum!
I never heard of King Cake until last year, it sounds delicious! I like the story behind it!!
what if you soak the raisins in liquor.... just a thought
@@mamamode1312 i see your warm grape juice and i raise you a plum wine
@@kimberlycmangusrn you're welcome to it. But I'll pass. Elderberry juice would likely be delicious, too.
@@mamamode1312 oooohhhhh I've never had that I'm gonna look for some ty
Fat Tuesday - it’s fat every day in my house in lockdown! In the UK we have Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras , to use up all the rich ingredients before Lent.
Where can I find a cutting board like that? Love it!!
Great recipe and the blue shade you have on is such a good color for you😁
Thanks for doing this! We lived In Baton Rouge for about 10 years and came to love the King Cake! My daughter ordered be from a famous bakery there a few years ago and it was sooo good! But I really wanted to learn to make it! Like you, we are Baptist, and we had never heard of King Cake before living there. Now I need to get some frozen bread dough! As soon as this horrible winter storm is gone!
Used to watch "queen for a day" everyday with my mama...thank you for sharing not only the recipe for a "king cake" but Michael telling us the icing colors and what they represent ❤
Good morning Paula
Beautiful. I never heard of this type of cake. I sure will have to try this out.
I've never had a slice of King Cake and it looks anything but appetizing.
I'd leave out raisens. Looks delicious
This is nothing like the recipe linked above. I like the story of the Ephiphany cake better than this as a Mardi Gras cake. I'm glad we are Baptist, too, because frankly we've given up enough over this past year!
Sometimes I'll turn just the light on in my oven and let dough rise in there. That lightbulb heats up the space perfectly. (Some bulbs are hotter than others, so be warned.)
Good Tuesday morning y'all! ❄ Bitter 🥶 with snow AND ice 🧊 where I'm at, (very bottom of IN). 😉
It's bad when TEXAS has no heat, no power. (They thought they'd push that "green" plan. Wind turbines are frozen. Zero movement.)
Sad situation.
Proper temp to let dough rise before baking is 75F - 78F. Paula, I've never made a king cake before, but I may try your recipe if I decide to try it.
BTW - Jungle Gardenia perfume was also one of the regular prizes on Queen for a Day, along with a washing machine, TV, dishwasher, new GE iron, and a vacation trip sometimes.
....Baby Jesus was 2years old when the Wise men found him😊
The idea/finding out it took two years is a relatively recent discovery. Tradition vs. Technology... It may take 2100 years for tradition to shift. But, I'm sure many people will add the caveat when serving King Cake..I mean, look at Easter and the Easter Bunny. He hasn't gone away either
We don't know exactly how old he was but we know that the wise men went to a "house" to see the "small child", not the "babe" that was born in the manger.
@@elizabethperimontclason3242 The bible does not say how old he was but the fact that the wise men went to a "house" to see the "small child" as opposed to the "babe" born in a manger, tells us that he was older. This has nothing at all to do with technology and has always been in the bible, therefore, it is not at all a "recent discovery". Some of us have known this since we read the bible the first time. By the way, the Easter Bunny is not real but Jesus Christ is. It's not about the bunny...it's about the Lamb...the Lamb of God.
Jesus was not in a stable by the time the Wise men found him. It took them months to reach him.
This Easy King Cake recipe looks so delicious Paula.
Never heard of King cake! Thank you for sharing
Looks great! 👑
I proof bread in my oven with light on only.
I love Paula. I have watched you for years. I'm so glad you had the recipe. I'm making this for the Love of my life for Valentines Day. He's from New Orleans.
I just have to tell you I have learned a lot today Paula. Now I know all about my King cake . Your videos are so enjoyable. Love it and love you Paula.
Paula love your recipes
I've had King cake before but have never actually made one. After seeing the simplicity of making it, it doesn't look so difficult.
Not being a big fan of raisins I think dates would be good along with the pecans.
Like Paula, I was raised Baptist so I wasn't as familiar with King cake and what it represents. It's nice to know more of the history of it.
Thanks for sharing this recipe and history with us Paula. Nicely done. 🙂
Or raisens can be rehydrated with juice or my fave way swapped out for chocolate chips.
I’m wanting to make a king cake. I don’t like the gritty sugar. I think I will color my icing instead!🥰
Still looking good ❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!! Love you! From Augusta Georgia
How fun!!! Looks delicious
Actually, Lent is not solely a Catholic observation. The vast majority of Christians around the world observe Lent.
A friend told me she used to make nut bread from scratch and then she bought rhodes frozen bread and thawed and added sugar to it by kneading it and rolled out and put her nut filling. I made it and it was so good.
Thanks for sharing first time seeing it made this way looks delicious have a wonderful day take care stay safe and warm 💯💜
Teresa you done an awesome job in filming
Thank you so much Paula for sharing this simple recipe for King Bread
In New Orleans those raisins would have spent the night resting in a bowl of bourbon.. The top needs the colors of Mardi Gras, Green and gold and purple. Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent , which is the 40 days before Easter Sunday, which is the day Christians celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
My favorite story of my in laws was my father in law giving my mother in law a sewing, thread, needle, & button box for her birthday. Because His shirts needed button sewn on, & she never got around to it! Still a funny story in my memory! LOL
Thanks Paula!
I just love you Paula
I had never heard of king cake .I watched that show 4 weddings a couple in New Orleans had mini king cakes for wedding guest to take home. I didnt know the story behind them though.
Hey y'all! It's a day for Mardi Gras! Hope you enjoy your home instead of New Orleans! What the lovely odds! 💜💛💚🎭🌃🎂🍝
I turn on my oven light and it works great. I think I'd have to use chocolate chips because I don't like raisens.
I remember that program “Queen For A Day.” I was young back then😂.
I've never known a King Cake to have raisins in it or cream cheese filling. And I have Louisianan Roots and family living in several parts of Louisiana. But it looks good, minus the raisins. Lol the baby is made from food grade plastic that is safe to bake.
She has another recipe without cream cheese. I would expect Paula to mix her own dough.
It's not supposed to be rolled into a big square and covered with filling like a cinnamon roll. You're supposed to roll it into about a 6 x 24 inch rectangle and lump the filling into about 1/3 of that lengthwise and then roll and seal the filling part and continue rolling the rest. That's how Gambinos does it.
Not many people would have the control Michael's got. I wouldn't. lol
This looks good. Kind of cinnamon roll-ish. Thank you for sharing the recipe with us Miss Paula.
I've never had King Cake before. I always thought it was an actual cake! Lol.😂 Live and learn!! XOXO. ❤❤❤
Oh my word. I could taste that Kings Cake through my device. Yums.
Happy Fat Tuesday Paula.❤🙂🙋♀️
Paula where can we get the cutting board with the pie circles?
I made about 15 of these only I made my dough and about a dozen of the European version of a King Cake which is completely different and is the cake from medieval days.
I watched Queen for a Day with my mom in the fifties. She had an iron on a stand to iron big stuff like sheets and pillowcases.
Gussie is so cute lol love all of your dogs.
If you're not a raisin fan (I'm not) just leave them out and substitute a bag of butterscotch chips. It's delicious. I guess it's the Texas way to make King Cake.
Good boy! I’m not that strong anymore. I’ll take his!!
Oooh, Michael's gruff voice interjection startled me! This reminds me of Christmas Stollen. No butt shots, Eddy! Your boss has told you this multiple times lol. Pretty colors for Easter, but she was so heavy handed with the sprinkles?! (Ok, I Googled it and I guess that's how you do it: heavy on the sprinkles.) Eddy avoids putting Michael on camera lol.
The season of Lent is not just for Catholics. Anglicans observe Ash Wednesday as well.
It’s beautiful Paula 🥰👍🏼
I just received a MARDI GRAS cake today from New Orleans . It has a little plastic baby laying in the center . It has like blue , yellow and green sugar on it . Shaped like a BUNT cake . I can’t wait to see how to make it . This one is Cinnamon. ❤️ It is a King 👑 cake also .
I would have loved to here Teresa’s story she was telling before she got interrupted .. she never got to finish ...
Great video
thumbs up from Texas
It’s nice to see Teresa participating in the show a little more! She seems like such a nice lady!
Thank you so much for sharing! I loved hearing about the different facts. Hope the basketball game was great!! (I am writing this a year later haha)
Would you mind sharing with us a bread dough recipe if we wanted to make this without the store bought?
Talking about weather, it was 9 degrees in Houston area last night with ❄️ snow...burrrr! And no heat for 12 hours
Oh dear. Do you have alternative heat. Did you keep your water running just a teansy bit so your pipes won't freeze.
Been watching Texas on the news. Feel bad for all of you. 🙏🏻
We had over 12 inches of snow and it 15 degrees but luckily we do have heat.
Unfortunately I’m watching this the day after Lent and gave up sweets for Lent 😉
From Indiana ❤️
Remember to have a faucet runing just a bit to keep your pipes from freezing that cold and powers out. Pipes bursting no fun.
Now we use a tiny baby doll, instead of a pea!
Did Jack’s team win?
Good morning Miss Paula and all Happy Fat Tuesday way back when the baby was made from china material un glazed so it was safe to bake it in the cake
Will lt brown sugar be ok? Dont have the dark
Where can I get a copy of this recipe.
Hello the cake is beautiful, faith, justice and power.Take care.
Dear Paula, that Blue is definitely your color. I giggled when you talked about Queen for a Day. I remember that show too. I'm 66, but don't remember how old I was when it aired. I love you in Christ. Hugs from California.
Beautiful King Cake! Fat Tuesday party on!
Thanks for sharing the king cake looks good and pretty who found the baby God Bless you. And theresa. Family stay safe
I noticed the recipe you go by in the video is different than the one you have linked. Was that intentional and which one do you recommend
I remember Ralph Emery on Queen For A Day, too!
Paula, I just love how beautiful your King Cake turned out. I've never eaten one or seen one before today on your channel. I'd heard about them, but that's it. I'd like to make a request. I'd like to see Eddie and Teresa on screen. I know Eddie is your camera guy but what about Teresa? Is she related, a friend or maybe an employee? Just being nosey! I really would like to see their faces.. Thanks, Linda from Texas.
Good Morning Paula, Teresa and Eddie 🤗 happy cooking from Massachusetts 🥶
Hi Andrea! I'm from Ma, too. Some weather we've been having, eh? Everything is covered with ice!!!
Hey Paula😘❤
Nice bon tempos Paula. You ever made a savory king cake? A Conecuh sausage and cheeesy egg king cake would be the bomb, Thanks
@@mamamode1312 its actually an indulgence cake for the boom boom probably not for lent where not a lot of meat is
I missed the part where she added the bean/baby to the ring? Ok, now I see.
Love your shows paula
I love your interactions with pee paw
Good morning
In Europe where I am from there are 12 days of Christmas just like the song. The 12th day is the day the three kings visited Baby Jesus. We have our king cake on that day. Our cake is much simpler and not as sweet.
Is the licking of the fingers something from the south? Midwest folks don't seem to do that
3 colors of Mardi Gras: Purple Represents Justice. Green Represents Faith. Gold Represents Power.
I think families come up with their own
Green = growth
Purple = patience
Gold = street in Heaven
I only heard about this cake from my mom. She was describing this to me this weekend, we were going to make it this past Sunday, but we never did, because we both were exhausted from coming back from our trip. I think we are going to make it this coming weekend.
Queen for a day also gave the Queens beds for their kids or whatever they needed for their family. I wish you could get someone to do a remake. I'd love to watch them help someone who needs help.
My church ladies get together for Queen for the day. We pick the oldest and go down the line. I was Queen for the day several months ago. She picks the restaurant for lunch and gets showered with gifts. She gets a tiarra, a robe and a wand.
