I have to say this IEM has great tone and timbre and it feels as though it can handle just about any music I throw at it with amazing overall transients - very nice slam in the bass helps. To me the treble has redefined what is perfect for me, coming from the DUNU SA6. Not too safe, nor is it prone to sibilance with amazing staging and imaging to boot . It's nice having two fantastic sets that compliment one another.
From what I understand HBB was trying to recreate the bass from the Elysian Acoustic Labs X. The X was one of this favorite IEMs, and between them being pricey ( $4k ) and no longer made, he knew that most people wouldn't get to experience the sound. The safe treble was basically the stock EJ07m sound.
I was thinking to get those, and judging from your review, this is what I need. Just need to wait for the next sale I guess :) Thanks for the detailed review, Mark! Quality as always.
Ya I signed up for a 20% off promo by giving them my email address, and then waited for them to drop on sale which they did recently so I got them all in for about $480 shipped with taxes included. At that price they’re an absolute recommend if you have that type of budget. Don’t stretch yourself thin for what’s truly just another product and nothing significantly more special than any other at the end of the day but if it’s something you’re looking to spend money on anyway just for the hobby factor etc it definitely sounds great. I have the variations and the Xenns up also competing in that similar pricing arena of $500-$700 as a tribrid set. I enjoy them all for different reasons.
Hi Mark, Could you tell if the stock cable of S12 is better than the P1max stock "cable"? Then between s12/p1max "iem" which has wide soundstage & 3d holographic soundstage representation of audio? Lastly between p1max and S12 which would u pick urself. Hope u reply to all my questions. Thanks 🙂

Thanks for the review! Was looking forward for your take on the lava or the original EJ07m (I own one), given your neutral/mid-centric preferences. Letshuoer retunes the EJ07m original to a lava for around 50$, would you do it? And how does the added mid-bass on the lava compare with that of the Dunu EST 112 (if that comparison even makes sense). Cheers
For $50 I would, but fair warning that with the time delay of sending it off and getting it back, the difference may not be obvious. It's a subtle improvement.
Got a note from Linsoul this morning that claims your Dokio is defective but you can fix it with a pair of tweezers. It also says you can ask your friends to fix it if you don’t want to do it yourself. Maybe Crinicle should be the one to do it since it is his Dokio after all. 🤔
@@SuperReview That would be instructive for the rest of us facing the same problem. It’s best to lay it out on the table and deal with it sooner rather than later. When the time comes, I won’t turn away. 🫣

Could you recommend a cheap IEM that is warmer than the starfield and has a better isolation. For me the highs on the starfields were a bit much and the bass wasn't that strong. I want something that similar to it but abit warmer and has good isolation other than the er2xr. 😅
@@SuperReview Wow. Thanks. I was going to buy the kinda lava but didn't like the bass shelf (I prefer a little more bass) but after seeing the bass mod graph then I decided to try it. I'll contact Letshuoer and see if the are still doing these mods. Does this bass mod negatively affect anything in the sound?
Thanks for the review. Very helpful. I just bought this last week and haven’t received it yet. I’m primarily a jazz/classical and alternative indie rock listener, nothing that needs heavy bass per se, and will be pairing it with a Kann Max. Wondering if this will be perhaps too much bass for me??! Would appreciate thoughts.
@@Jazzinplayer I like 'em. Definitely not too bassy. Have paired it with the SE180 and AKM dac. Lovely mid-bass and overall balance. I get a really good sense of space and air around the instruments. I've been shopping for kilobuck IEMs and the more I read the more it seems like I should just get one of these three (S8, IE600, Kinda Lava). Any kilobuck that represents a clear advantage? IER M9 or Monarch MK2 maybe? I'm listening to the Arias now and enjoy them (as well as the SSRs), but not a fan of the Final B3s which I also have. Listen to all genres, but enjoy female vocals (pop, indie pop, folk) Thanks!
@@SuperReview I just went ahead and bought the IE600 and Moondrop S8 from Amazon and the Andromeda 2020 from Campfire. Will return the options that don't win the day
@@SuperReview welp, one way or the other the IE600 was the clear winner for my tastes. I think the Andromeda 2020 won in the build quality and quality of the cable but lost out on sound. The S8 handles all songs with no trouble, but it doesn't have the *it* factor of the IE600, which sometimes stumbles but when it hits is just wonderful
crazy that there's no price bracket where you're guaranteed a cable that isn't kind of nasty. Imo Campfire and Empire are the only ones who put effort in to the accessories and unboxing. Just would like to be able to spend most of a grand without making compromises somewhere (Moondrop: sounds great, smelly accessories. Campfire: sounds mostly mediocre, beautiful unboxing, abundant accessories, costs $500 more for no reason)
when it comes to mid range, i wont mind it has shit accessories as long as the iem themselves are solid. since most of the time i replace the tip and cable anyway. but when it comes to high end, ofc it needs to be great overall. and entry level maybe more towards the presetation than anything since the target audience.
I almost bought Kinda Lava until I saw your review. Is the sound stage better than TinHiFi T3 Plus? I had issues with positioning and spacing between instruments due to the narrow soundstage. It was a feeling that some separate sounds sounded louder then quieter. Does Kinda Lava have such problems? I also had Moondrop Variations and didn't like them. I know the Variations have a much wider scene but how do they compare to Kinda Lava in general? Thanks for the review.
Just picked this up to fill a gap in my collection, specifically for Rap and EDM. For me it most certainly does not fill that gap well at all. I picked up a Ikko OH10 the next day and it's definitely superior for the specific genres I was intending to cover. With the tip + cable swap, Kinda Lava fits more securely for me, but they're not far off.
