the poor children that think Robert Palmer got his start with ADDICTED to LOVE. whole nother career
Sadly, at one time I was one of those poor children. I didn’t realize how funky he was until later.
OMG I had no idea. It's like hearing Red Red Wine and thinking that's UB40.
I knew about Bad Case Of Loving You, but I didn’t know he did it until years later. I didn’t get exposed to most of his music until years later.
Indeed
@@misterfrias Look into a band called Vinegar Joe .
I've been listening to this for decades. Never gets old. The cast of musicians is legendary and Palmer's soul is riding high. LOVE THIS JAM.
I got to see him in Seattle and do this medley... One √ off the bucket list!
Fuckin right on!!!!!!!!
Can't get over the Cocaine Tree....
Hell yeah
Don't forget vinegar Joe and keep rocking
Robert Palmer was seriously underrated. RIP
Truth
I ran out out and bought this green and white album just for these first 9 minutes of very cool music. Turned out the whole album was great.
Truth.
@@lindadee2053 After Lowell George passed away and Little Feat got back together , Robert would have been a great singer to front the band .
No disrespect to Craig Fuller , but Robert would have been better .
From a fan of both .
RE : Take a listen to a band called Vinegar Joe , a band Robert was in .
I wish that people would realize that he was a vocalist, not a rock star. If you choose to call him a sellout, it's your loss. I think that the man had amazing talent and should be celebrated.
People really said that?
Outside of this nice set, he had one of the truest lines in Rock & Roll; "She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went."
Ya but he could've done so much more with that voice.....paul rodgers bob seger rod stewart....hes in that class too......he has rocknroll written all over it
@@vigeo5 LOL!!! You made this comment 4 yrs. ago, but I just heard it 2 weeks ago. I can't stop singing that 1 FABULOUS line: "SHE"S SO FINE, THERE'S NO TELLIN' WHERE THE MONEY WENT!" At least now I know it's not JUST me who think's it GREAT!
He was not a vocalist, he was a SINGER! Vocalist is not a strong enough description.
Every once in a while my brain tells me it's been too long since I listened to this, thank you brain for remembering, and thanks to my parents for me being born in 1955. I got to listen to all the good music!! 🌹
Also born in '55, spent a bit of time introducing my kids to the good stuff.
Thanks for bringing me back for another listen....you're a cool mom!! 🌹
Freakin genius, and I'm a Julia...from the 70's and it was a great time to be a teenager, just sittin in the basement listening to records....AND STUFF....takes me back and makes me smile from ear to ear...🎧🎼🎵🎶🔊📻🎺
…and stuff. Hee Hee Hee… 🍎💋❤️🎼
I really hear you ,HIGH school & music
my aunt Julia from the 70s is the coolest. we smoked modern pot with her and she freaked out for a second but i think overall had a good trip lol
Hey Julia
Leslie here, I have been jamming out to this trio for 50 years? WoW,it’s my go to jam while getting ready to go out because it pumps me up along with copious amounts of weed!!
I can’t sit still, gotta get up and shake my ass all over the place!!
And yes he was a genius!
Peace y’all
🎶🏳️🌈🔥🟦🤘☮️🎸💋
I saw him in concert and he was so laid back . When he wasn't singing he would step back from the mike and just let the muscians play. He was the definition of cool.
Yes he was….Mark…..He was very humble….
Putting an Ad in the middle of this Song is just so P A T H E T I C...
Especially THIS song!
RIGHT??? UA-cam should be ashamed.
UA-cam, (or should I say their algorithm) tends to do that with the longer songs, like this, Freebird, and I'd hate to think what they would do with side one of 2112 by Rush, which is actually all one track.
@@Rangerman9404 I think it's whomever uploaded it. I've NEVER seen this in a music video before. I'll look this song up somewhere else. EDIT: found one studio produced from someone who shares with more integrity. No interruptions:

The best 3 song medley of all time. This shit just feels so good. Lowells touch is all over this. Love it!
I love this medley, one of the very best it is flawless. That said the Beatles with Golden Slumbers> Carry That Weight> The End would have to top my list. I know the Abbey Road medley has more songs but those are the last 3.
Well said. Ive listened to this since i was a child and never realized the reason i truly loved it because of Lowell George. Grew up on Little Feat too.
Robert and Lowell were both funk geniuses.
@@bettyshockley7935 Now that does surprise me.
@@Cerph Don't forget about The Meters
You gotta love "The Trilogy" When I was 17 every payday I went to Argus tapes and records to see what was new. The old hippy behind the counter told me to check this out. I got tuned on to Little Feat and Robert Palmer at the same time. I've been thankful to him for 45 years now.
i first heard this trifecta decades ago, on a "progressive" radio program, and was hooked "like a fish that just rose to the bait." It just takes once! Been a fan ever since.
Lowell George on slide!!!! RIP "Fat Man in the Bathtub"
The Lightning- Rod Man!
I got to see him live @ the Apollo Theatre opening for Rick James. Needless to say, it was one long funky night of music. Robert Palmer earned the audience's respect that night....May they both keep the show going in heaven....
Saw RP twice and was a PROFESSIONAL.... Never a stuck - up musician. He had fun doing what he loved .
You are one very, very lucky man! I have been a fan of both artists since the beginning of their careers.
ooooh what a GREAT show that must have been, wow!
Lucky You!
One of the best medley's ever!
Robert Palmer is MISSED by soooooooooo many of! 1993, Ohio State Fair = $3 concert ticket. Metal bleachers. My 3yo tumbled down and let out a scream. HE STOPPED THE CONCERT TO ASK IF SHE WAS OK!!!! I LOVE THIS MAN & HIS VOICE!!!
It's hard to believe that this came out 50 years ago. I've been listening to it regularly that long.
yah i hear ya , dang it lol , but timeless music
So it's only a couple months older then I am? Still a good tune. ;)
I Thank you God for determining that my Birthday was in 1956 because of the history of music was at it's best I may not always remember my name but my memory of music is endless 🎼🎶🎶🎼🎶🙏

Never gets old. Such good groove
Palmer's debut recorded in NOLA with Lowell George producing it. Absolutely wonderful triumvirate of top tier songs.
Lowell George and Little Feat -- the perfect blend of rock, country and New Orleans R&B. NO ONE did it better!!!
True dat!
Keith King only this is the meters and Lowell lol but yes
I believe that Robert what is the closest Englishmen 2 ever bridge the gap between what was happening in the UK and what was going down in the USA. Just my opinion and I believe that he absorbed quite a bit of a Lowell George into his repertoire. Robert was no slouch and could hold his own with anybody musically that he was a song stylist and vocalist just like Rod Stewart. He was a mean musician as well he could play many instruments.
little feat was the greatest band before the bad stuff got to lowell. w/o lowell don't even give them a listen. saw them plenty in "intimate surroundings"- topanga corral, fox venice theater, the roxy- best music ever
When this song came out I was living it, even the ' use her car' part, but after 41 years I'm still married to the 'foxy wife'. Our Anniversary was yesterday.
Happy Anniversary to you and your better half.
that is beautiful..
I am obsessed with this “trio” and all R.P’s performances, he was just a great performer with an amazing voice. I am a big fan of his music. Timeless gems.
Two words.... The Meters!!!
totally agree , and he could change and do diff styles, and even really rocked out with power station
I met them in Ocean City MD. I asked if I could hang after the show and they took me with them. I hung with the guitar player, a complete gentleman, awesome experience. It was when Double Fun came out. I got a Double Fun scarf and a backstage pass 2 months later left for me at the Warner Theater in DC ticket box. Blew my mind he remembered, had no idea if ticket would be there. Wet Willie opened up for them. I met Wet Willie years before that at a place called My Brother's Bar in Alabama. I could go on, but fond memories of talented people!!
Nice!
Lucky girl. Your not alone. The Warner was one of our favorite concert venues in the DC area. Peace.
Diane Wilson Wow!!!! Diane I bet you had a BLAST!!!! I would have enjoyed every minute of it too!!!! 😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸
Great Story!
diane great story , but no sneakin throw the alley
One of the funkiest tracks EVER, period.
agreed
listen to little feat
One of my playlists has Sailin Shoes, followed by Man Smart, Woman Smarter and then Hate to Lose Your Lovin- they just go together well.
(This is MY personal opinion which I am still entitled to in the country I live in).
pressure drop also
the piano in that killllllls
I had this recorded on 8 track when I was a teenager! My friends and I would pile into my Dodge Swinger, we would just drive, get high, and sing our lungs out! Thanks for the memories Robert Palmer!
OMG!!! You just brought back a flood of memories. One of my good friends received a trust fund from his Grandmother to buy a car when he turned 16. He wound up coming back with a Dodge Swinger in this God awful yellowish green color!! We all couldn't help but laugh at it. I mean it was only a year or so old and fine for a first car but, 😅😂🤣
I gotta play this every now and again.... I just gotta!
+Robert Williams Everyone will hip-hooray....
+Robert Williams Same here - gotta get a fix.
+Robert Williams should be played more
great little three song thing
I ain't mad at you.
I prefer the live version: this is great but over produced a bit.
This song blows me away every time I listen to it. It has such classic bass lines. There are so many amazing musicians on these cuts. It's truly an all-star lineup. Players from Little Feat, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, Bad Company, etc...
You're missing quite a few great NOLA musicians, like George Porter, Aaron Neville, Ziggy Modeliste and Leo Nocentelli, but whatever, I guess....
@@MrsWilberforce2 AKA The Meters.
Right on, little feat did it for me.
THE finest suite of three cuts ever strung together for repositioning your disposition. If you can't feel this funk, get in the box, it's over. This was the genius Lowell George and Little Feat backing Palmer here. It's timeless and perfect. RIP Lowell, Robert, Ritchie, and Paul.
Lowell George and New Orleans own Funky Meters
💯 agree!!
This is just as perfect as Little Feat, as well it should!! Lowell was an absolute GENIUS😊
Talked to a girl named Julia at work and started singing this....God, forgot how damn good this was! Surviving 2020!
I've heard a lot of Julia songs--this one's my favorite.
My brother and sister are about a decade older than I am… I was born in 71… I remember riding around in my sisters boyfriends van when I was a kid and they would always be playing this trilogy of songs… And ever since then it’s just been one of my favorites it’s such a groovy set !! Like a lot of the best music out there, it just doesn’t get old doesn’t sound dated you couldn’t put a year to this if you’ve never heard it before in your life… You just be like what the hell is this?!?! Translation I can crank it at a red light and feel no shame or embarrassment at all lol.
Leslie here, can you believe that this awesome jam is 50 something years old!!
And just keeps me shaking my ass!!
Rock on and Peace ✌️
🎼🎸🔥⚜️☮️💋
If you don't move to this tune, check yourself in, as you've done lost your funk. My neighbors loved this song so much, that they threw a rock through my window to hear it better...
BEST COMMENT EVER!!
Coolest neighbors ever
Lol
That’s the greatest story I’ve ever heard…do tell more, please
LOL Hear u . lol Literally just took headphones off boppin round the house at 5 in the am. I'm 65 sounds as good now as it ever did. If you don't move to this lil medley well as u said. 👍😊
There are 2 people who watched this who gave this a "thumbs-down." Those 2 people have no clue...
Whoever they are, should go back to Justin Bieber, until they grow up some.
Mike Fropmozzle I think they meant to press the thumbs up and missed.
Mike Fropmozzle loved it all my life. Best 10 minutes spent this am

This was my antidote to disco style
A major performance by one of the great vocalists of the 70's. He was one of a kind. What a great tribute to Allen Toussaint, the writer of Sneakin' Sally. R.Palmer covered at least one other song of his on the album Double Fun, which I played until I wore out the grooves. Bless him. He left us too soon. RIP.
One of my favourite albums. Been playing it for decades.
Julia here. This is my senior year, going to school and right to work after. Always made time for some Robert Palmer. 😅
Hey hey Julia been around since the 70's. Always listened. Great album. Kids nowadays, have no idea what their missing.
A clavinet will always bring a funkiness to any song. Lowell George & The Meters were the backing group on this album. Brilliant stuff, flat out.
What in Tarnation did you just say?
@@clairecolvin4077 A clavinet is a keyboard that has a sound that is sometimes associated with funk music. Lowell George was a member of Little Feat, and contributed to this album by playing & writing on it.
The Meters were a great band associated with all of the above, plus much more. The came from the New Orleans area. They were Palmer's selected band to back him on this particular recording.

Little Feat was magic and rocked the house!!!
Produced by Lowell George the backing band on this album is The Meters, not Little Feat. They are on Pressure Drop.
All of his Power Station stuff, all of his solo stuff in the "Addicted To Love" era...none of it holds a candle to the music he was making at this time. This had as much if not more soul to it than anything you'd hear from anyone on the airwaves in 1974.
the poor people who think his debut was ADDICTED to LOVE
more like a second career
I like everything he's done.He has surrounded himself with the best and he knows good "material."The Meters are the funkiest band in the world.
Two of my Very favorite artists that had been taken way to Early....Robert Palmer and Lowell George. So glad their music lives on.....
Sailin' Shoes (Lowell George):
Lowell George- guitar
Leo Nocentelli- guitar
George Porter Jr- bass
Art Neville- piano, clavinet
Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste- drums
What a Band....Perfection
Shine on Lowell and Robert! 😻🤘🏼🍍💯💕😎
Great songs live forever. It's a rule.
R.I.P. to the great Paul Barrere
Who are the backup singers? Kinda thinking Bonnie Raitt.
monica reskovac was a Little Feat fan from 71 on, always missed their shows then finally got tickets to see Lowell on the THANKS ILL EAT IT HERE solo tour, sadly he died in DC the night before the show I had tickets to, a sad loss
I saw him in concert at a small venue in the 70’s. All these old favorites felt like they were just being sung to us! ❤. Left us too early RIP Robert Palmer
I always wonder, if he were still with us, what Robert Pamler would think of the appreciation that his now nearly 40 year old songs have with people. I know that for some he kind of "sold out" with his more rocky, pop orientated songs. But for me, Robert was man of many flavours and I don't think he ever really gave up his blues roots. You can tell, from his interviews, that that's where his passion lay. Evident, I think, in some of his later stuff. His Marvin Gaye covers are a good example. I'm only 26, but I remember reading in a newspaper, I was on holiday with my father at the time, that he had died and telling my dad. I felt gutted, and so did he. I think Robert was one of those talents you only got once in generation. He's sadly missed, but I'm glad his back catalogue is there for everyone to enjoy. I know I do.
Scotia nicely said .. no one was like him .. nor will be ..
How well put.. Thank you Scotia! :-)
+Scotia My enduring memory of Robert Palmer is Elkie Brooks grabbing his balls from behind while he tried to sing lead vox at a Vinegar Joe concert.
This is one of my all time top fav albums of all time. The medley is just inspired.
+Scotia Absolutely ! You are spot on ! You must be an old soul . This boy had some real roots from his blues days. Little Feat let him sit in and kept him around for some reason ....
KozmykJ ...and she did that..um..why?
Blows me away every time!!
I remember thinking he sounded a little like Little Feat . Than I started reading the Album covers and found out why ,his band was Little Feat without Lowell George
ONE OF THE BEST MEDLEYS EVER,
i agree and loggins and messina"s trilogoy
FWIW I usually refer to these seelctions collectively as the "Sailing Shoes Medley".
agree best
Never tire of this weaving of 3 mini masterpieces together so seamlessly! But what draws me to it again and again are the silky smooth background vocals. Nothing beats great songs with incomparable backup singing. And this is among my favorites in a long list.
Absolutely spot on. The background vocals are great. And the guitar. And the funky keyboards. Must be played LOUD!
Random suggestion from a stranger: check out Van Dyke Parks' album DIscover America. Aside from another great cover of Sailin' Shoes, that record has some spectacular background singing (to go along with the spectacular everything else).
Thanks asdu, great suggestion. Best wishes.
So sweet

Wow the first time I heard this I was about 16...many years ago 😊. I was hooked
Till this Damned day, Brother left us way too soon. Rest in Power and Peace and Blessings Brother.
One of the greatest lines in a song ever. "If you can't find nothing wrong with your mind you better find something wrong with her." OUCH!
Courtesy of Allen Toussaint. One of the last centuries greatest songwriters, and completely unappreciated.
@@MrLagnut Totally agree, Allen was the consummate gentleman of New Orleans music. I miss him so much.

Clllaaassic! Early Robert shows his absolute mastery. One of the great voices of rock!
...More SOUL than he can control!
What I can't figure out is how Palmer is in the Rock and Roll HOF and Lowell George, Little Feat and the Meters are not.
Robert Palmer is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame but deserves to be there.
Forget the hall no need
That's just criminal that the feat aren't in the hall.
Sad sad sad.
Lowel belongs. To the HOF
Like Bonnie and so many others.
Mainly due to the fact the R R hof is a joke based on commercialism. Little Feat should've been there years ago. Wonder what rap crap they'll induct next? Rock on.
Can't go wrong with that rhythm section - probably the best ever, and Lowell George.
the Meters!
Very rarely does a rhythm section bring tears to my eyes. This, the Temptations, Ike and Tina, Sly Stone, Frank Zappa, maybe a few others.

I think you need to have grown up in this time period to fully appreciate how funky this whole thing is. Trust me, as a guy who was into funk at this time period, THIS was pretty freakin' badass.
Not necessarily true, I was born in 72 and get it. I’d put this up against anyone from that era.
Saw him the early 70s. He had the audience in the palm of his hand. We were all singing & dancing.
I lived in NOLA when this came out. Was a Meters fan mostly back then so when came on the local radio I snapped it up as soon as I could get to the store. Don't forget Allen Toussaint who called the shots on this! Still have the LP and I really appreciate you putting this on the tube.
