2016 Mazda6 Review

  • Some people will tell you midsize sedans don’t sell anymore; that it’s a dying breed pushed aside by the popularity of the crossover. Those people are what I like to call "wrong". Sure, crossovers are a big deal these days, but midsize sedans are nothing to scoff at either, with close to three million sold in North America each year.
    Still don’t believe me? Look no further than the dozen or so models on the market, almost all of which have been redesigned or refreshed over the last two model years.
    Which brings us to the 2016 Mazda6. It’s not the newest midsize sedan on the market, but it may still hold the title as the best looking - and one of the best in the business.

    Agree 100%. Some of the large to mid-size sedans are some of the sharpest vehicles on the market, and the Mazda6 is up there with the best of them

    This car desperately needs a V6. I love the note of the V6 in my 2015 Camry XSE. It has a nice rich sound & is very quiet as well! I would've checked this car out as well if it offered a V6.

    Such an elegant and stately look! Unfortunately, in today's market, mostly exaggerated haunches and lines are appreciated to draw attention instead of savoring one's own personal taste.

    Little weird to suggest that Mazda should sell the 6 with a larger engine when Mazda currently doesn't make any 6 cylinder engines due to their shift to the SkyActiv line.

    Lots of good info instead of a gadget & feature rundown. I was aware of the tight headroom, reduced noise in 2016, the hockey puck don't touch that screen lack of Android or Apple Infotainment System. I wasn't aware that i-Eloop trashed the brakes.

    The Camry sells well because its a Toyota and caters to people who dont care about driving dynamics. It's a bit of an insult to say that the Mazda 6 is "on the same playing field as the Camry." Every Mid size comparo from the last year from the likes of MotorWeek, Cars.com, Kbb, Consumer Reports etc put the Camry at or near the back of the rankings. I just bought a Mazda 3 to be my daily driver and plan to get a Mazda 6 next as an upgrade.

    The FWD mid-sized sedan will be sorely hedged back because of the CUV. The M/S Sedans that survive will be those with something good to offer. Being slightly sportier than a burnt out 1990 Taurus SEL is not going to cut it. RWD, default, or available, performance enabling AWD is what is needed.

    Is 2000 RPM at 70 MPH really ridiculously low for the class? My 2015 Camry SE will do that, and my girlfriend's 2015 Nissan Versa Note, a much smaller car, will do about 2100-2200 at 70 MPH (granted it has a CVT).
    Still, great review. It seems like a lot of critics are just piling the praise onto the 6 without talking much about the negatives - like the interior space, which is why I didn't get one.

      Accord, my 6 battery died in about a year with just 18k miles, then a fuel tank sensor which the warranty dint covered at 2 years, its torque sucks, radio sucks, it has a bose system and its way worst than many standard systems. For a bit more the accord v6 or hybrid are way ahead. Which I will be getting soon.

      Mazda6. It's much more fun to drive and looks far better than a boring accord.

    • @accordwhip3467
      @accordwhip3467 8 років тому +1

      Accord. The MPG is underrated in my opinion. While doing about 70% highway/30% city driving, my parents average an awesome 41 mpg (with the I-4, and it NEVER feels like it lacks power). The headroom and the legroom is fantastic. BTW, the Accord is your only choice if you want a V6 engine (the Mazda doesn't offer V6, kind of ironic since it is named the 6).

    • @ms3173
      @ms3173 8 років тому

      Nissan Altima

    • @Nathan5791
      @Nathan5791 8 років тому +6

      If you want a boring car that gets you from point A to point B, then Accord. It has a more softer ride associated with 'comfort' but will get the job done. If you want an engaging ride and a car that is driving focused and arguably much better looking exterior and interior, then get the Mazda 6. Overall, I like the Mazda 6 since I am young and I am okay with the sportier suspension. Also, in terms of reliability, Mazda's newer model have been rated much better and higher in consumer ratings.
      I also like the fact that the roads aren't overflowing with it like the Camry's and Accords which feels like a taxi since everyone buys it. With a 6, you'll have a unique and much more eye catching ride.

    Mazda, give me a V6 with MT in GT trim and perhaps AWD and I'll head to the dealer the next day to trade in my Camry. Such a beautiful car, I just can't do a 4 cyl. It's unacceptable to only sell the MT in base sport trim too.

    • @Sepster1

      Last time I went to Canada and I saw a lot of Mazda cars. Asked my aunt and she said Canadians like Mazda because of their handling when its raining or snowing. And Mazda is actually known for the handling. The Mazda Miata won the Car of The Year 2015 Award in April (it beat an Audi model and another Mercedes car). That can relates to how well Mazda handling is. I drove my Mazda3 to Big Bear last winter and believe me it was very well handled

    Everyone talking about the 6 needs a V6, the Camry which is the best seller in the class moves far more 4 cylinders than their V6 so whats the point ? Should Mazda offer it? maybe but Mazda is a tiny company and Ford used to source the V6. Mazda has less than 2 % market share so they have to be careful with their budget

    Where is my 6 wagon with diesel engine Mazda? How can a manufacturer make such a big deal about offering a diesel, postpone the release date at least two times and finally just let it be forgotten?

    • @FiredEmpire
      @FiredEmpire 8 років тому +1

      What universe have you been in lately? Never heard of Volkswagen's dieselgate cheating scandal?
      It turned out that actually not a single auto manufacturer in the world has yet achieved engineering capability to develop a legal diesel engine for affordable non-luxury cars that can pass the EPA regulations without using a (very costly) urea injection system and sacrificing performance for economy. VW decided to cheat by installing an illegal device but Mazda didn't and was struggling for years.

      Yes, if you are > 6.5 feet, then don't shop in this category. You need a SUV. Anything less than that and it shouldn't be an issue. The car feels much more closer to the ground and it has a sportier feel. If you've ever seen a sport cars cabin, it is cramped. It has a similar vibe.

    I may be the only person who doesn't like this car but I don't. It really doesn't make sense. Sure it looks really good, drives great, as a Mazda should but it sucks as a family car! Competitiors offer bigger equally nice interiors with android auto/apple and more power under the hood. See '17 Fusion, Optima..etc.
