      if you watched the australian selectors interview.. we did have better competitors but none of them had to lock themselves in there room like a child because more men did the sport than women.. yes you can quote them saying "the reason we chose her was she had to lock herself in her room because she was so traumatized of the fact more men where in the sport than women"... More men mow the lawn,, quick ladies lock yourselves up lol.. I also have just found out more women own hair and nail salons than men so I won't be leaving my room today out of trauma...

      I don't know if the sport has sets of moves that breakers include in their routines that judges take note of with the excellent performers including extra tricks for points. An established mean from which to vary? Not sure neo classical is how I'd describe her moves regardless. That she may have just changed the minds of those who decided breaking should be included in the Olympics with her minimalisation and graceful efficiency might be of concern for future aspiring breakers however. That old adage 'those who can't do, teach' comes to mind and we know she qualifies to do that.

She was on the committee, her husband is her coach, it’s totally unfair. She didn’t start the organisation but she sure as hell took it under her wing. No, we did not have a huge breakdancing culture before the Olympics. I’m embarrassed as an Australian. That made a joke of athletes who put their entire lives on the line to represent our country. We have many young dancers who could have done better than this woman. No. She is not a legend. She is not a Bradbury. She has become famous for all the wrong reasons. Australia is an altogether different case and should be held to far greater standards and scrutiny and I'm glad to see that by most it is. It's a pity this idiocy made it in to the Olympics as it spoilt an otherwise successful Australian campaign (though it's amazing how many people don't realise that Russia was not competing and would have been in the top group of the medal tally) So "Raygun" is a lecturer in the Department of Media, Communications, Creative Arts, Language and Literature at Macquarie University Faculty of Arts and has a PhD in cultural studies. Her PhD thesis was entitled "Deterritorializing gender in Sydney's breakdancing scene : a B-girl's experience of B-boying" and focused on "the intersection of gender and Sydney's breaking culture". It shows what a joke the Australian education system is when the taxpayer assists/finances these sort of idiotic, pointless university degrees. The City of Sydney Council gave Gunn a $20,278 grant in 2022 to research “Spaces for Street Dance”. Obviously a very important topic, I wonder if she drove through the streets of Sydney looking for "spaces" ? She claims she trained 4 hours a day for this.......wow.

How many other athletes or should I say participants' were sent to Paris on the tax payers dime when they had no chance of placing anywhere on the score board. I'm also sad it does take away the focus on those who did well and represented their country with honour.

    A friend who CHOSE not to apply for the team due to the restrictions tells me they had about 14 people who even applies from a much larger pool of talent. Firstly, to even submit your application. you had to be a citizen (not just a permanent resident like my friend). So thats the first point of culling candidates. Then, you had to provide your passport details on the application, that was another point that cut people down, as you had to already have a passport or pay the $400+ for an emergency passport, so that is a socioeconomic factor that reduces the pool again. To have to have a passport for someone thats never been able to afford to travel overseas, before the selection process and the heats is a bit backwards imho. They should of held heats, chose a candidate to send, THEN arrange that persons passport.
    So a combination of everything in the video and what Ive heard from a dancer who wasnt able to qualify would easily lead us to here.

Maybe I'm just showing my age, but I'm nostalgic for the days when Australians could take joy from something like this, and not take ourselves so painfully seriously. I'd rather have a million more Rayguns in this country if as a swap we could deport all the people who unthinkingly joined the pile on because they get a kick out of trashtalking someone who, even if she's not a great breaker, is probably still better at breaking than her critics are at whatever their best skill is.

    This Raygun thing has gone over everyones head. She said she had no chance of winning so she was going to have some fun with it. Not take it too seriously and take a bit of the piss. She is not an embarrassment at all. People take sport way too seriously. Constantly watching the medal tally to see how great we are.
    Australians are constantly taking the piss but when it comes to sport they are serious very serious. If our cricket team lose it is like someone was killed and we have to blame someone and they must be made accountable. It’s been like this for many years. Australia is a great country but when it comes to sport we are way too serious and it is a win at all costs attitude, people just cannot chill. I first thought the same thing about Raygun i thought she was an embarrassment, then as i learnt a bit more about her i understood her motivations and now i think she is great. Good on her. Just a real Aussie taking a bit of the piss at a so called sport that we were never going to win. Why take everything so seriously it is breakdancing for gods sake. It is barely a sport, Chill out. Some people just live in a black and white world and go through life never seeing the colours.

She knew she couldn’t compete against the other countries with the athletic tricks so she focused too much on the creative aspect of her performance. It fell short and wasn’t well received but I think she was unfairly victimised by the judges and the media. 😊

      Breaking as a sport is a lot difference to skating, where there is a clear objective to pass the line first. It was originally about free expression, even some breaking competitors question whether breaking should be just about scores. But, at the end of the day it was put into the Olympics as a competition, so we can't really question the validity of that now.

      Pretty telling that the Oceania trials competition which was for 17 countries only had 15 competitors in the female division (don't know how many in the males), they were obviously expecting more when the competition was set up as the first round was supposed to be to get it down to the final 16.
      If you didn't have money and a passport for the country that you wanted to compete for then you couldn't go to the trials in the first place.

    You do know someone has to be first. And what a lot of people don't seem to have any idea about is that dancing has changed a lot over the last hundred years or so. However, do the Olympics have a rule book on brake dancing, and if so, why was it not used when selecting dancers, or was the rules made up as it went along?

    • @amandamandamands
      @amandamandamands 25 днів тому

      The people who were at the Olympics competed in a regional qualifying event to get there. The first in each region automatically got through and places 2-4 then went to some further competitions to see who got the final places.
      Because of all of this the committee has said that each regions judges came from all over the world and were given the same criteria to judge with that was used at the Olympics.
      Raygun happened to win the Oceania region, but seeing as she placed 64th out of 80 at the last world championships she knew that she wouldn't place. She said that she knew that she couldn't keep up with the younger competitors athleticism so she needed to be original. My take is that she didn't do the moves that we saw at the Olympics at the qualifiers.

  • @GC-by6iz
    @GC-by6iz 24 дні тому +1

    the thing though, is that her fundamental "non-creative" moves are on a very basic level that yes the average joe you pull of the street couldn't do, but basically any breaker can easily do. Her "creative" moves i.e. kangaroo hop, kangaroo pose, sprinkler, fish flop, floor sweep etc are certainly moves that no other breakers have done, but at the same time so easy that an average joe could easily do. Nothing in her entire repertoire of moves screams "Olympic-caliber".

I said we would love to do that, and that community would love to do that. Australians get behind them and be a lot more supportive, so this can happen. Would love to see Australians take on China.
