I have taken the board exam three times now. The worst part is I have no idea what I am getting wrong so I don't know what to restudy for? I don't know what to do different?

These are great tips! I feel more comfortable seeing that you linked the exact book I'm using and the domains link. Did you pass your exam on the first try? I unfortunately did not and am currently studying for my next date.

Hi Hayley, thanks for the video! I have seen that many of the example questions online are based on client/situation-specific scenarios. For example,
"A music therapist is assigned to conduct an initial assessment for a 12 year old who is blind and walks with a cane. Which of the following rooms would BEST enable the therapist to conduct a comprehensive assessment for this clients?"
The Hanser Textbook doesn't really focus on such specific details (Except the case study examples). Which other source would you recommend for knowing what techniques to use with which populations and for which goal?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Leigh Ann! Thank you so much for watching this video and for your comment! This is a GREAT question and I wish I knew how to answer. You are so right, many of the questions on the test are client/situation specific scenarios & I feel like those questions are harder to prepare for! I think that is where taking the practice test comes in handy. By taking the practice exam, it will prepare you to think through different scenarios and will help you become more familiar with how to answer. There were a lot of times during the practice exam that I had it narrowed down to 2 answers, but could not decide between the two. Reviewing the questions & answers on the practice exam helped me decide between those last two answers on the real exam. I'm so sorry I'm not much help with this one!

I know people who have taken both assessment exams and it didn't help at all on the real test. They found the test much more difficult. I ended up having to pull out the CMBT Bibliography & the CBMT Exam Domains from their Candidate Exam Handbook to supplement the Intro to MT, the New MT Handbook, and the MT Exam Secrets, along with the CBMT practice tests. Researching each item on the Exam Content Outline and cross referencing each item with the books. Those materials may not be enough to pass (answering scenario based multiple choice questions isn't so natural for everyone) so I also bought Effectiveness of Music Therapy Procedures by the AMTA. questions from Intro to MT in Ch's 4 - 14 & Knowing Ch 15 like the back of the hand. Also downloaded all the AMTA & CBMT Practice & Responsibility materials from their websites. Fingers crossed.

How exactly did you study for the exam like what we’re your methods for studying, and how helpful is that book for studying because I don’t want to spend so much money on something if I have to. If the handbook covers everything on the practice exam then i would be Spending money for nothing on an online exam. Also what is the passing score on the exam? Please respond back soon.

Reenard Spence Hi Reenard! I believe a 73% is passing (about 95 questions correct out of 150-20 of them are not scored). I think the book was definitely helpful & you can get it on amazon for a pretty low price! I suggest studying this book, the domains & taking a practice exam! Good luck to you!

Love the blooper real at the end! Great tips! I have been studying on my own and was not sure where to look next so I am definitely going to look into the book. I have been reading one of our textbooks, "An Introduction to Music Therapy" to study, and I took the practice exam and got an 83%. I am currently waiting on hearing back from CBMT to schedule test date Any advice on when to schedule? I want to take it sooner but also want to make I am prepared enough.

That is awesome, Bonnie! I'm sure you will do well! I suggest studying regularly for around 2 months & then taking the exam, but if you already got an 83% on the practice exam, that is great! It's really up to you, I scheduled mine pretty early because I wanted to get it over with! haha

Hello Hayley, I was looking at the New Music Therapist Handbook and it seems that it is several years old. Was it outdated?
