OK, this car is the cool beans!! Such beauty, the sweeping lines scream speed, the front end is incredible and why have a rear window, you know every other car is behind you! Too bad the windows were up, I did a quick google and found a photo of the fully gauged out dash. We're house hunting and our max cash offer budget is 600K so I guess we're poor.
INCREDIBLE car that belongs in a Museum of Art, thanks Jack!!

Hey, Terry! We have definitely crossed the line from automobile to work of art with this car! What can one say about the sweeping lines and bold design. The selling price certainly is representative of what one would invest in a nice home. Good luck in your home search! Thanks! :) Jack

gorgeous auto!!!! I wonder what the purpose the little lights (assuming these are lights) on the tops of the rear fender were for.

My guess is they are functioning lights. If they could have been observed via the side view mirrors, they might give a sense of the width of the car, particularly useful in parking maneuvers. The rear view mirror must have been essentially useless. Thanks! :) Jack

Useful to compare this with the 1934 Bugatti Aerolithe. There's a Jay Leno video about it.

Hey, Ray! Thanks for the tip...there is indeed a lot of communality about them. Not to forget the DeSoto and Chrysler airstreams of the time. I credit the burgeoning interest in flight and aerodynamics as being major factors in these cars' development. After all, since light weight, exotic materials and streamlining made flight possible, then why not apply these same principles to the motor car. Serious measures of wind resistance and air flow were being made, so it was the right time to try some experimental products on the public. Thanks again! :) Jack

Whoa! Never seen or heard of that before! It doesn't look like your typical Bentley. Although I suppose there are slight Bentley Continental undertones. The front reminds me of a Morgan Plus Four. The rest of it is more Bugatti Atlantique. Very interesting, Jack!

That registration plate is actually still on DVLA online records. Showing untaxed, road tax due 24th November 2014, (it would be free of charge as a historic vehicle) MoT exempt (as it would be, being pre-1960) and here is where the anomalies kick in, as it says 'year of manufacture, 1939' (check) 'date of first registration, July 1997'. This sort of thing happens when there is a gap in the computerised records, and/or the vehicle has been off the road for a long time, and a date of registration is recorded as being when a car goes back on the road, rather than when it was originally first used. I notice the link you provided says this car is a recreation, which suggests the body isn't 1939, but then many thirties Bentleys that were coach-built as saloons end up with Le Mans replica bodies on their chassis.

Hey, Mick! This certainly is an exotic car! Thanks for your research on the number plate and the description...it's interesting to note that it is a re-creation. Even as a re-creation, I can't imagine the work that went into reproducing this car. It certainly is a work of art! Thanks! :) Jack

@@rx6180 - The registration date is 1997 because this is a replica (and a very good one) of an original car, FXW 6, built by French coachbuilder Portout for George Embiricos, a Greek shipowner and sportsman.
This car was recently for sale in London at just under £1,000,000, so I didn't buy it, the original still exists and would probably make ten times that.
