ON EXHAUSTION OVER A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING

On Sunday, March 22nd, I was verbally attacked on social media for my stance on the #RhodesMustFall movement and my opinions on the lack of visible transformation within the structure of UCT as an institution. I wrote this poem, posted it as a Facebook status and have generated a surprising reaction from the student body. I have been astounded by the responses of support which I have received.
Last night the #RhodesMustFall movement allowed me the opportunity to open the student discussion floor with a public reading of it after finding out that it had found its way to the desk of the DVC. Again, I received an overwhelming amount of support from students and staff alike. Proof that the arts and creative modes of expression can be effective in times of heightened emotion.
