  • Rodric Williams has been accused of “lying” after failing to admit that the Post Office feared an Alan Bates victory would lead to a “cascade of criminal appeals”.
Referring to Mr Bates’ group litigation order which ended in a High Court victory for the former sub-postmaster and 554 others, Edward Henry KC asked: “The Post Office was fighting the GLO tooth and claw because you all knew that if you lost the civil litigation a cascade of criminal appeals would follow didn’t you?”
    #PostOffice #UK #Telegraph
Mr Williams replied: “I don’t recall turning my mind to that time, no.”
Mr Henry said: “I suggest you’re lying. There was a strategy in the GLO which was coordinated with the pending appeals, wasn’t there, fight it at all costs?”
Mr Williams answered: “There was certainly discussion around appeals over the common issues judgement at that time, yes.”
Mr Henry asked: “Even recuse the judge to put a spanner in the works?”
Mr Williams replied: “Post Office made an application to recuse the managing judge, yes.”

Not only does it break him when he's called a liar, he looks around waiting for the chair to jump in and call out Mr Henry for being inappropriate, then he breaks a little bit more when he realises he just been left swinging in the breeze. Should be a BBC ident.

@@chroobs I thought exactly the same thing. Given that Sir Wyn has only intervened a couple of times during the last two days - and then only to get Williams to concede a point because he was clearly exasperated by his obfuscation with Jason Beer KC - it shows just how deluded this fool is if he thought Sir Wyn was going to defend him in any way. 🙄

Having watched this appalling excuse for a lawyer over the last two days, I seriously hope Sir Wyn reserves a special mention for him in his final inquiry report. His conduct was contemptible and shocking: using umpteen time-wasting tactics and laughing inappropriately - so disrespectful to all the wronged SPMs, but particularly to Jo Hamilton who was present. He was CLEARLY in the middle of this cover-up by POL - many of the documents shown to him categorically prove this - but if they'd put a black piece of paper in front of him, he would have sworn it was white. Good for Ed Henry KC calling him out for what he is - a LIAR!

Both the UK and US have suffered an unending crisis of terrible, corrupt and compromised leadership for decades now.
Tony Blair oversaw the murder of weapons-inspector David Kelly to disencumber the government from a "troublesome priest" who was hindering their illegal war.
David Cameron cheerleaded and oversaw the mutilation of Libya
Bill Clinton was/is a rapist, the entire Bush family is a gang of war-profiteers, Obama was just a front for the same interests as Bush, Blair, Clinton, etc.
Then there's the clown car of Conservative cretins whose unsuitability for power is now apparent to all, sadly too late.
One wonders if the country would have been better had Corbyn actually won.
For all his many faults, the man at least has some integrity.

It begs the question of the PO ‘Why go to litigation?’
If the PO wronged the post masters admit it and pay up.
If the PO believe that they have not wronged the postmasters then by all means litigate - Ergo the post office must have believed (we now know erroneously) they had not wronged the postmasters.
The only other explanation is the PO knew they had wronged the postmasters but were trying to weasel their way out of paying/guilt - via litigation.
