Sir can you please let me know what is the reference for the antithyroid drug of choice in pregnancy is Carbimazole and not PTU.... even today pharmacology and medicine faculty are teaching it as PTU only....
And this was the direct question in UPSC CMS exam that was in June 2019.... And I have marked it as Carbimazole after hearing your class in PrepLadder.... But now in key it is given as PTU..... Felt very disappointed sir.... Even when contacted the same with Dr gobind rai garg sir... He also said that it is PTU only.... Kindly clarify sir....
But why do lobectomy and total thyroidectomy for benign disorders? The number surgeries that would have to be enormous because the vast majority would be having a benign nodule. What is the rationale behind advising surgery for benign conditions especially in thyroid where the growth is slow and follows an indolent course and the incidence of malignancy is also very very low.
Its primarily because of the pressure/compressive symptoms, may be due to cosmetic reasons the patients themselves might ask for sx, and rarely in long run malignancies can occur.
