- Footage from one of my old camcorders so not brilliant quality of BR 71000 Duke of Gloucester on the 03/09/05 Dalesman from Crewe to Carlisle and return, first seen at Scout Green with thirteen on then leaving Penrith, south of Langwathby and finally along Mallerstang edge, thanks for watching.
Beautiful video! I am fascinated by the crisp exhaust sound that the Caprotti gear produces. I'm glad the Duke was finally able to live up to his design potential in his preservation career.
Thanks Chad, the ultimate locomotive I would say, been missing to long from the mainline but due to return to mainline running next year, thank you for watching, nige
Nige, thoroughly enjoyable captures of great performance(s) by 71000. Hope to see it back again. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards, Bob.
Thanks Bob, definitely something to look forward to, the Duke trust were looking for a return inside a year but with the situation at the moment a bit longer I would think but looking promising, hope you are well and stay safe, regards nige
Excellent footage Nige, an enjoyable watch. What a machine the Duke was back then. Hopefully she will get another bite at Shap in the future
Thanks Austin, hopefully not to long a wait as the overhaul is going well, the return to Shap is something to look forward to now in these dark times, cheers nige

Yes Nige superb footage and soundtrack from a "very inform" BR Standard, thanks for uploading, will upload a compilation of 71000 from my archives soon.
Thanks Derek, hopefully returning to the main line in the not to distant future, looking forward to your compilation, cheers nige
A classic seeing the popular Duke in fine fettle over the northern fells. Lets hope when the duke returns to steam we can have scenes like this again in future. Richard
Thanks Richard, yes this is what we're missing but we can wait a little longer, stay safe cheers nige
Great filming Nige and some good locations, like the three bridges shot, which ive done myself. Never seen 71000. Thanks!

Well done Nige, never mind the quality.

What a machine 71000 is Nige , blistering climb over Shap
Runs like this have been missed for a long time, overhaul was hoped to be finished sometime this year but with the current situation maybe longer now, cheers nige

5 min 42 sec for the climb to Shap, at the time the fastest with load 13 and only bettered once, also by 71000 in 2006. 45 mph at the summit, 55 mph at Scout Green.
What more can you say, brilliant performance by the Duke, thanks for watching and info, cheers nige
Lovely video Nige :)
Thanks Simon, much appreciated, stay safe cheers nige
