It is true that metronidazole can be used for pregnant, but there is a big debate which happened from a long time that it causes teratogenic effects and is harmful for the fetus specially in the first trimester. Many researches nowadays prove that it is safe for pregnant women, but some people still believe that it is not, to be on the safe side, use amoxicillin unless there is a contraindication like allergy
