Cannot tell you how great it is to hear Lynn Oliver's name again! Oh, how I miss him! Lynn left a college kid with a lifelong love of The Big Band 'form' - so many great memories of that Broadway studio and _The Red Blazer Too_... Dick's comment at ua-cam.com/video/GNIIswWHV_I/v-deo.html is spot on: I've made a point to call ours a _Reading Band_ and a _Workshop Band_. And our focus really is on mostly younger players, many of whom have no real exposure to the form. Really enjoying the conversation, guys! Thanks so much!
Watching this for the third time now. What a great interview and presentation! Fantastic insights from these uber experienced saxophonists. The performance solis are an added bonus! Thanks, Ed!
Thanks for spending so much time with it. A true honor to hear that sax section in action. What a shame that commercialism and poor cultural tastes here in the U.S. have made the sax section virtually obsolete.
Andrew Long Hop on plane like I did. Saw them 2 nights ago and was the most incredible jazz show I’ve been to. All these guys were there except Smulyan. Each of these guys is a TOWERING soloist. Absolutely world class across the board.
This was amazing. As a fellow sax player it was really cool to hear all this input and advice!

Great interviews. Got a chuckle out of you saying “Xerox all the parts.”
Great interview Ed of a bunch great sax players. I'm a sax player in a Monday night big band and now I know where the day selection comes from.
