This is a reissue of an older album that was recorded in mono. The "hard panning" is actually known as rechanneled stereo, or fake stereo. When stereo records became available, labels would often rerelease their older mono material in rechanneled stereo. There were many ways they accomplished this, from a simple pan of the balance knob, to placing all the high frequencies on one side, and the low frequencies on the other.

I’ve come across this technique when researching the album, and others who discussed Wyncote Records referred to it as hard panning, so I went with that term. But I really appreciate you letting me know about the other terms and the different ways labels achieved this. Definitely something I’ll keep an eye out for on future dives. That’s part of the charm, though, isn’t it? The mix of fun and eerie in Zacherle’s style makes it such a unique listening experience.
